CoCo lamp Concrete Core - Copper CoCo is a limited edition series of lamps, created from recycled concrete cores. These cylinders are the leftover waste when holes were drilled in the concrete slabs of the former Philips tower in Brussels centre. The weight and the aesthetical power of the exposed interior of the concrete slab makes it a perfect fit for the base of the CoCo lamp.
The energy that has already been put into producing the concrete material and drilling the hole gets justified by upcycling the core into the coco lamp. For the light tube, raw copper has been chosen. Also for the copper tube, by using standardly available tube dimensions, no material is wasted.
Each CoCo lamp becomes a unique piece, with its own personality, thanks to the diversity in texture and colour play of the concrete cores. The coco lamp is defined by an assembly of honest materials, resulting in a visually light object, yet with a solid feel to it.

A sidetable, chair of rammed earth. Developed for BC materials on request of Sabato magazine. The initial design of this furniture element was the output of an advanced rammed earth workshop. It was the result of a collaborative design and build effort among the tutors and participants.
This workshop explored the potential of (rammed) earth within a contemporary Western European context. Special focus went to the role of an advanced application of the material in shape and finishing. Through the advanced application of earth, different ways of using the material in a designerly matter are being explored.
For the Sabato magazine, a special edition was developed. It features two sizes, and sand has been used from a specific building site in Knokke. More info:
