NOTE-TAKING TIPS!
heyyy!! heres a quick post explaining some of my fav note-taking methods and some tips that i find useful. these are for taking notes from a textbook :^ ). lets get started!!
where to start -
my textbook chapters are subdivided into three or four parts so i mark in the margin which subchapter i’m at. this helps alot when i look back on my notes and want to find a specific subchapter/topic. i usually write it in highlighter so its even more noticeable. plus idk it looks kind of cute hehe.
then i use the subchapter title provided by my textbook and write that usually in big blue ink. i always just use the textbook titles when making my notes.
advice -
draw diagrams, draw diagrams, draw diagrams!!! i know sometimes i feel super lazy when i make my notes and don’t want to draw some diagrams but i force myself to!! its so worth it omg. idk i can really remember the material better once its visualized. with my teachers i get bonus marks for including diagrams so thats a plus!
write important notes in the margin! if i really want to remember a certain point i note it down in the margin so it really stands out. i can remember these points much much better and when looking at my notes my eyes go straight to the points.
use a different colour for vocabulary. idk if this is obvious this is just what i do. i pick a different colour for vocabulary and this helps me remember the definitions a lot better.
don’t use too many supplies. i’ve tried to colour code my notes with 6 or 7 different colours and omg it takes way way too long. i usually use one black pen, one blue pen, a highlighter, and a coloured fineliner. this way i don’t have to cap and uncap pens over and over again which actually wastes a lot of time hehe.
spice your notes up! sometimes to motivate myself to start making notes i search tumblr for some of those cute banner idea posts. i use these in my notes because i find them kinda fun to draw?? im lame sry.

Clean your room, get those clothes off off the floor, you know you should
Drink some water, or tea, or anything, just stay hydrated
Take a bath, or a shower whichever one you prefer
change your bedsheets, you might not feel like it, but it’ll help
text or call your friends, they care, i promise

Welcome to my second masterpost, this is not quite a self-help guide but it IS about what i do once a week to relax, de-stress and get myself ready for another week of school and/or work. If you get breakouts on your lower forehead that is from stress!
Choose a day for relaxation, usually either Saturday or Sunday. This ‘routine’ doesn’t have to take up the whole day so you won’t be wasting the day - you can still go to work or study on that day.
My Routine: (I chose Sunday if anyone was wondering)
Hair Mask: This might seem like a weird order but I smother my hair with coconut oil and throw it up in a bun to keep it out of the way while i exercise
Exercise: change into some workout clothes. Exercise will keep your body fit and toned, it’s also great for your skin! I like using my yoga mat and following some at-home workouts on youtube along with some pumping music
Warm shower: unless you like the idea for sitting in a bath full of your sweat (if you do take a bath use a lush bath bomb - they’re amazing) take a warm shower to relax your muscles. Before your shower would be the ideal time to shave!
Face mask: choose a face mask for your skin type or a skin problem you want to tackle, clay = oily, tea tree = acne-prone, pimples and etc, usually they dry in 10-15 minutes during this time I make a drink (non-alcoholic i’m 16 lol)
Manicure: after washing off the face mask, I remove old polish, file nails, push back cuticles, apply basecoat, 2-3 coats of polish and then finish with a topcoat
Movie/TV: settle down with your drink and let your nails dry as you Netflix and chill ;)
Organise the week: fill out your bullet journal/planner so you’re ready for the following week
You don’t have to do everything step by step, you can add in your own things to do such as sleepover with friends or going shopping!

5.4.16 | Tuesday I decided to start a new (thinner) bullet journal so that it’ll take lesser space in my school bag. School’s finally starting next week, I don’t even know how to feel about this- new environment, new school, new friends!

How to Get Good Grades and Still Have a Life
Work Smarter, Not Harder
During my last two years of my undergraduate, I came across this notion of working smarter, not harder (a.k.a. working more efficiently to maximize your grades). This is one of a few main concepts that raised my GPA by 1.0 whole point. Here are some tips that if you truly follow, you’ll see incredible results.
Stay on top of the work
Review lecture slides or textbook material before going to class
Go to class (or if online, schedule a regular time to review the material)
Complete all practice problems because chances are it’ll be on the final
Own your note taking method; either on your laptop, on lecture slides, or a notebook (and don’t think of dramatically switching it up half way through the semester)
Summarize your notes at the top or bottom with a few quick bullets on what the lecture focused on to help you organize later on
Ask questions when you are uncertain or need clarification
How Can I Work Smarter?
Go through the course syllabus for learning objectives and course description to see what areas are to be focused on
Create a daily, weekly, and monthly study plan and don’t be scared to adjust
Get enough sleep; this one is my number one tip, there’s nothing worse than hearing about people pull all-nighters before an exam (I’ve also know people who have accidentally slept through and missed it entirely)
Eat, eat, eat (and eat well); fuel your body and your brain with superfoods and plant goodness b/c everything is connected and it will pay off than eating artificial vending machine junk (trust me)
Use the 50/10 rule (50 minutes focus, 10 minute break), or whatever version you find most effective
Find your study place and rotate (i.e. use library for one course and a coffee shop for another)
Make school your 9-5pm job - the top people in my program go to the library at 9am to start their “job” and it’s so so important
Study Plan
Focus on the course(s) you try to avoid them out (and try to focus on them at the beginning of the week when you feel more motivated)
Always start study sessions with what you reviewed last time
Plan sessions in 2-3 hour blocks throughout the day and spend time studying a different course in each session (or at least one different course in-between the same course to reduce boredom)
Create practice tests and quiz yourself on material by shifting memorization to true understanding
Use summary notes to help destress before exams
Create study groups (if that’s your cup of tea) to quiz each other and explain concepts
Happy studying!

My own personal method is hour and a half session than 10 minutes break, after third session I deserve at least half an hour break.
College Truths
1. No one has time to re-write notes so that they would be pretty! Take photos of what you’ve got!
2. Say no to binders. There’s no space for them. They’re too heavy to carry.
3. Make a bullet journal if you like to procrastinate! Ain’t no body got time for pretty titles, colors, page ideas, etc. If it’s not a simple concept, it will not work.
4. Studying at coffee shops is hella distracting… I want to watch people and listen to the playlists!
5. You really can’t practice most advised studying techniques! Especially pomidoro… By the time you get into work, you need to take a break again. What?
