SRS 2013-2018
Since I keep getting submissions from people, I just wanted to let you all know that I've chosen to end SRS. I've decided to focus my time on creating my own music to share with the world. Thanks for a great 5 years of awesome music!

Jerry Jean
I’ll be honest, I had no idea that Chamber Pop was a subgenre and I’m pretty stoked about it. Not many of you know that I was classically trained in piano and have a love for orchestral music (Beethoven is the best. He’s the emo of classical music.) Jerry Jean combines the traditional orchestral sound with pop-rock undertones and it is quite an interesting mix. I’m pretty excited to see if this genre can permeate through the sucky pop of today and spread to more genres. Anywho, check out Jerry Jean’s awesome music and let him know who sent you!

Chicago-based singer Isaiah Grass isn’t here to change the pop game, but he’s certainly trying to capitalize on it. This guy is developing a cult following with teenage females and definitely has the chops to back it up. Anywho, check him out and don’t forget to tell him who sent you! :)

Can’t Swim
Awwww yeah. I’m sure if you’re into the pop rock/pop-punk scene, you’ve heard of Can’t Swim. Funny story is that I actually played a secret show with this band before they really even broke as a band. And they nailed their set. True blue modern pop-punk from Keansburg, NJ and signed before they even had their first real show. The band released the debut album Fail You Again on March 10th with the lead single “We Won’t Sleep.” The band is currently on tour with Four Year Strong, Light Years, and Sleep On It (What a f*cking lineup, yo). You’ll probably catch me at the show on April 1st at GameChangerWorld because I can’t miss this. Anywho, check out this awesome band and let them know who sent you!

Cody Daniel
Yes. Just. Yes. This guy has such a fun poppy sound with rock and R&B undertones. Think Coldplay, Maroon 5, and The Temper Trap. He’s everything I want all of these solo male pop artists to be. His songs are super catchy as seen in his latest release Among Motivations from 2014. If you’re ever in the Raleigh, NC area, see if you can watch him live! Check this guy out because I have a feeling that he has something in the works that’s going to blow you all away ;)

Map Of Rome
The Front Bottoms + Saves the Day = Map Of Rome. My NJ indie-rock homies have such a solid sound and a fun performance. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing these dudes perform several times across the state and they never disappoint. My personal favorite song is from the band’s debut EP Sleeping In called “Fat Sandwich.” Listen to and love that ish. In September, the band released a 7 track album titled Don’t Take It For Granted. Check this awesome band out and let them know who sent you!

Artist Update: Deal Casino
What’s up everybody? Happy Thursday!
I’m finally bringing back a fun segment called Artist Update where I talk about all the bands I’ve found over the past few years and tell you what they’re up to.
For today’s feature, we’re talking about the amazing people in Deal Casino. I’ve been watching this band for a few years now because they’re a pretty big deal in the local NJ scene, but the band is starting to make waves in the mainstream! Make us proud, boys.
The band recently released the Human Cannonball EP and it has since garnered almost 10 thousand listens on Spotify (!!!). I had the pleasure of playing with this band a few years ago and they are amazing live. If you have the chance, they're doing a residency at Arlene’s Grocery and they’ll be playing on January 24th with another awesome band Wyland (They’re also really great and from NJ).
Check out the music video for “Human Cannonball” and make sure you jump on this bandwagon before it takes off. To take a gander at my last feature on them from almost two years ago click here.

Kristofer Axén
Sweden’s Kristofer Axén has a really unique sound that is slightly reminiscent of The Beatles. You can really hear the influence in tracks like “The Mutual Strain” and “Blind Boogie” of his album The Creek and the Carving. I was really drawn into the smoothness of his voice and the fact that all of his songs have different flavors to them that give them separate identities, but are still cohesive enough that they flow well together. I’m really looking forward to seeing how far Axén goes with his music and I will be keeping my eye out ;)

Buxaburn
First post of 2017!! And we’re starting off with a doozy. Whew, Buxaburn has a solid sound. I’ll be honest, I get a lot of hip-hop and rap submissions and 90% of them are awful. I came across Buxaburn and feel so refreshed. He successfuly combines that reggae feel with hip-hop (kinda like Sean Paul, but a lot better). His tunes just make you want to bop your head along and the lyrical content is pretty good, too. Anywho, go check out this awesome artist and let him know who sent you!

Album Review: Just a Taste by Waiting On Mongo

Tracklist:
1. Just a Taste
2. The Stank
3. Let’s Ride
4. Mongo Song
5. ProMongo
Funk group Waiting on Mongo is making a huge splash with their debut release. It starts off with some solid funk in “Just a Taste” that really reminds me off the old music my family would listen to in the car. The horns in this track come in right on time to give it some flavor and I love it!
Following up with the appropriately titled “The Stank” keeps the funk rolling and has a bass line to die for. Those effects really give it the depth of a true funky track. Here is where you get the first real taste of some smooth, sultry vocals from singers Mike and TJ. “Let’s Ride” gives a little of a break from the classic funk sounds from the first two tracks and introduce some classic guitar riffs coupled with smooth, jazzy keys. It’s definitely my favorite on the album.
The EP goes right back to the funk with “Mongo Song” that really encompasses the band’s amazing attempt at binging real funk into the NJ music scene. James Brown would be proud, boys.
“ProMongo” closes out the album as a solid funk and jazz closer. If this EP doesn’t get you off your feet and make you want to dance, then you need to get yourself checked out.
You can take a listen to songs from the EP here. Go check out these guys and let them know who sent you!

Winter’s Wake

I got to see this incredible viking metal band almost a year ago (They’ve been on my list forever to cover.) and now I get to gush over how amazing they are. I’m a huge fan of metal and orchestral music and this is the beautiful combination of two completely different worlds. If you have the chance, go check out this band live because they are absolutely incredible. Their recordings are awesome, but definitely don’t do them justice. The band will be performing in Montreal on January 13th if you’re able to catch them.

Norweigan rock band Karma Fire is bringing real rock’n’roll back to the music scene. I’m really digging the band’s sound and I think they have truly polished their music. Karma Fire recently released their debut full length Heart On the Run this November for pre-order and it sounds awesome. Normal on-sale goes up January 11th exlusively on iTunes.
