Parents' Day proves his parents don't gaf. Parents who are busy with work still love their kids, but that shows they didn't even care to choose an activity with Max, that they just wanted him gone as soon as possible with no thought behind it. There must've been confusion in the writing team, or they were just pulling stuff out of their behinds as the show went on rather than building up with points they had laid out.

i have a feeling the writers had absolutely 0 thought put into maxs parents before they actually started the show

probably explains the way miles fucked up the wording when talking about his parents

maxs whole character is a kid maturing at a young age and looking at the world with a pessimistic perspective because of the way his parents emotionally neglected him

but its different in each episode or any cc content that involves this topic

in the QnA they say his parents do care but are just too busy with work

but in his enrollment papers they didnt care enough to sign him up for a specific camp

they care enough to send him a new hoodie as a gift with a letter that wasnt even hand written

but when they dont show up to parents day they dont even give a reason for it (pretty sure parents have the counselors numbers if they send their kids to a summer camp right ? idk anything bout camps)

and i think in the blu-ray they said max has shitty parents or sum

i feel like they just make stuff up about his parents when they have to which is weird considering the fact that the reason max is the max we know is his parents

People pissing themselves that Miles Luna doesn't believe in Dadvid like that changes anything about how the fandom will perceive them.. So many of the animators and such adore Dadvid and have made little jokes about it in the storyboards.. And DUH Dadvid wasn't canon. It never will be. It never wa gonna be. And Miles encouraged y'all to keep writing the fan stuff🫩

In Defense of CJ

I wanted to create a post defending CJ because for every person I see loving on him there's five more hating him. I feel as though that's a little unfair so I'm going to rant because I'm very passionate about this subject as someone who really enjoys him!! If you read this at all, thank you! If you read and you don't like CJ, thank you for being open-minded enough to at least hear me out! I'm open to discussion in my comments or asks.

His character is a satirical caricature of the new “sigma male” workout bros. His actions aren't meant to be taken seriously, yet the people in this fandom have a tendency to take them out of context or twist them into something more sinister. Exhibit A: season five episode one. CJ says that the children must complete an obstacle course in order to get dinner. Withholding food is not right, that's not what I'm arguing for, but it's how seriously people take this moment as if it's not for comedic effect (and then it's like: why doesn't David do anything if it isn't an obvious mockery that wasn't meant to be taken at face value? Shouldn't he be criticized, too?). Plus, none of the children aside from Max complained. They were actually excited, which as we've seen throughout the show, it isn't easy to find an activity that all of the children enjoy. They were even naming positives about the obstacle course—which, by the way, just look at it. You can't tell me that this ISN'T just an absurd exaggeration that you're not meant to take seriously at all.

And, if we're going to take things in a solemn manner, there's junctures I have to point out…

In the following paragraphs, I'm going to talk about him and Gwen. I feel it's a bit unjust to compare the two, but I will do so because CJ haters did so first. There's no logical reason to hate on CJ because “Gwen was better” when she's.. still in the show? She's back by the end of the FIRST episode of season five. Guys. Are we for real right neow… Not only is she still in the show, but she's working a job that SHE LIKES MORE!! There's an entire episode about her pursuit of another career because Camp Campbell isn't right for her. If you truly liked her as a character, be happy for her.

Her and CJ are two entirely separate characters, their only similarity being their employment as co-counselors. Some people, like myself, even prefer him over Gwen. Her character was simply not for me as it truly embodies the humor in 2016—which makes sense as that's when the show was released, but I've grown past that, and now I just cringe and face palm. I got into this franchise recently, and I probably would have liked her a LOT more if I'd watched it in the past, so I get where people are coming from when they say they do like her, especially when they've been investing time into the show for a long time! But.. are we really this resistant to change that we are hating on a new character for “replacing Gwen” when Gwen is, again, STILL IN THE SHOW…

Also, Gwen makes mistakes as a counselor, too. She constantly curses and shouts at the campers, often neglecting her responsibilities to indulge in her hobbies and “masterrrrrr-ing the fine arts.” Perhaps CJ would make more egregious mistakes if the series got a chance to progress, but as it stands now, Gwen has four seasons of her being called a “shitty counselor” who slacks off all day. She has her good moments, but those are just that — moments. She has a sympathetic side, encouraging David to take breaks, but that isn't most of the time. People may argue that of course she's upset, she's working a job she doesn't like nor want, and to that I say again, then why aren't you happy for her that she got a new job? Her DREAM job to be a writer?

In summary, at least David has a coworker who WANTS to be there now. CJ is an attentive worker who intends on improving Camp Campbell. He clearly cares for the children through his reasoning and with him comforting Max, even if his actions don't display that all the time — just as you can say with Gwen.

Even so, if CJ had been there from the very beginning of the show, David couldn't have had his emo moment during Order of the Sparrow where he sulks because “no one cares,” specifically naming Gwen as an example. Furthermore, Camp Camp is a show that does a good job at separating its earnest moments from the ones that are meant to be played off for laughs. Before you write a post saying that you hate a character for something, step back and consider the gravity of that action within the context of the show. CJ isn't Gwen's replacement; Gwen is still in the series. CJ isn't an overly controlling, abusive camp counselor; That moment was just meant for laughs.

And again, thank you for reading! I honestly wrote most of this while sitting in a hot car, so sorry if it's a little equivocal or unclear at times.
