spider-man (to get your attention)
so i was sitting here doing my makeup and thinking about Officer Morale and Uncle Aaron and all that good stuff (spoilers for both movies ahead I think)
and i was thinking, how was there not some big scandal about The Prowler dying and being discovered to be the brother of Good Cop Officer Morales, soon to be captain???
weak theory 1: officer morales managed to keep on the down low that his dead brother was wearing the prowler suit and either in good faith or with money managed to have his fellow officers and the coroner not say anything.
weak theory 2: the prowler was SO GOOD at his job that nobody ever saw him and so when he died and his suit was found, nobody was concerned because nobody knew.
realistic theory: plot armor
anyway

the idea that your friends won't like you if you're too weird is wrong for example one time I told a friend whenever I was losing my mind I laid down on the floor under my desk and stared at it until I was better and next time she visited me she taped a bag of salami snacks to the underside of my desk with a message saying "going insane all by yourself, handsome?" which I only saw months later when I had a breakdown. that's friendship.

yeah we have our favorite words
I just saw someone say the words "jokingly gaslight" this might be a good time to reintroduce the internet to the terms "lying" or perhaps "pranking" or even just "joking" on it's own

Tumblr media
Today, we revealed the four astronauts who will fly around the Moon during the Artemis II mission, scheduled to launch in 2024. Get to know them:
Christina Koch
Tumblr media
Meet the first member of our Artemis II crew: mission specialist Christina Koch. Koch visited the International Space Station in 2019, where she participated in the first all-woman spacewalk with Jessica Meir. She began her NASA career as an electrical engineer at Goddard Space Flight Center.
Jeremy Hansen
Tumblr media
Representing the Canadian Space Agency is Jeremy Hansen from London, Ontario. Col. Hansen was a fighter pilot with Canadian Armed Forces before joining the Canadian Space Agency, and currently works with NASA on astronaut training and mission operations. This will be Col. Hansen’s first mission in space.
Victor Glover
Tumblr media
Victor Glover is our Artemis II pilot. Glover is part of our 2013 class of NASA astronauts and was the pilot for NASA’s SpaceX Crew-1 mission. He’s logged 3,000 flight hours in more than 40 different aircraft.
Reid Wiseman
Tumblr media
...and rounding out our Artemis II crew: mission commander Reid Wiseman. Wiseman lived and worked aboard the International Space Station as a flight engineer in 2014. He also commanded the undersea research mission NEEMO21, and most recently served as Chief of the NASA astronauts.

thank you
For a while, I lived with someone who had a tendency to hover when I was working on stuff. Building things, specifically. They, like me, were very particular. Unlike me, they would get tense and intrusive if they thought you were doing something “wrong”, even though it’s doubtful that either of us had a solid grasp on what we were doing. It taught me something: unless someone is going to hurt themselves or break your shit, leave them the fuck alone while they’re mid-process.
I suddenly understood why so few people I knew, especially afab, built things, or took them apart. Or repaired them. They were punished for learning. Learning is a mistake-making process! Even when you’re not making full on mistakes, it’s awkward. Your technique is poor. You take a really long time doing something that would be fast, if you knew how to do it. You strip a screw hole or two. One of the most demotivating things possible, IME, is having someone stand there and judge you for not knowing how to do something you clearly do not know how to do. How are you supposed to know how to do it, if you haven’t done it enough? How do you come to understand “the way it’s done” without encountering what “the way it’s done” seeks to avoid? Why would you keep learning if someone’s a huge dickhead about it? Nobody needs that.
Not being amab I can’t speak to the experience, but social osmosis tells me that dads sometimes teach their sons how to Do Things of a build and/or repair nature. afab folks often speak of the opposite experience: curiosity about these subjects is discouraged, often subtly and sometimes actively. It’s dangerous. You’ll break it. You’re not doing it right (takes over instead of coaching through it), etc. That blows.
Women built bombs. You can fix a power drill or install a garbage disposal. You can build a cabinet out of plywood or customize ikea furniture. You can pull the back plate off a laptop and put a new battery in it. You can paint a fence. It doesn’t matter what your parents or aunts and uncles or siblings or grandparents said. Their baggage is their baggage. If you’ve ever felt the urge to do any of these things - the power’s really in your hands and, most importantly,
it’s okay to suck at it
