Oh but imagine - Atreus and Angrboda decided to have another child, little Hel is at first excited to become an older sister. She will be the best big sis ever to exist! Then the day finally comes and simply put, she was not prepared for all the attention going over to the newborn baby.

At that point Hel becomes more and more unsure of herself, a little sad, and tiny bit jealous (like I felt when I was a kid and my little brother was born 😅) Her parents are always around the baby. There's no time for archery lessons with dad or drawing with mom anymore. Hey, what gives?

Eventually it all becomes too overwhelming for Hel and she runs away to hide someplace in the Jötunheim forest. She's crouching down to make herself small as possible. Maybe she can stay there forever, forgotten, it's better this way, lost in thought... Until she hears footsteps approaching her. Oh, great, it's time to get lectured about how it's not okay to run away or how she can't be sad over some new guy who took her place in the family.

But she doesn't get lectured. Instead, her father sits down beside her, and asks if she feels disheartened by the changes she has seen. Atreus says it's okay to feel that way. He owns up to not spending as much time like he used to, but he tells Hel that the baby is small and needs help with having needs met. Hel is a big girl and can do many things on her own, but the baby can't. That's why her younger sibling has been getting lots of attention. Though he understands it's challenging to adjust to the changes in life. He reminds her that no matter what's going on around them, both he and Angrboda will always love Hel.

And that's all she wanted to hear. She felt like a huge weight was lifted off of her little heart.

"Let's go back. Your mother's waiting to give you a big hug, and grandfather's making supper tonight. Race you accross?"

I get why the game developers went ahead with the decision to only feature Loki (Atreus) as one of Laufaye's children, because it makes sense in the narrative and it's just how the game is set up. Not only for GOW 2018 but before that time period and for what is to come in the next installments.

Because in the original norse myths, Laufaye is supposed to have three children with Farbauti (in GOW verse that's Kratos name, or rather that's what the Giants called him). Loki's siblings are called Byleistr and Helblindi. But in this game Faye lives alone in the forests of Midgard literally middle of nowhere, maybe exiled, I think she just ghosted everyone after her battle with Thor in vanaheim/her failed coupe against Odin. Or she maybe said "I can't do this anymore, many people died because of me, I'm going away, I want to be alone, don't contact me" to the people she loved and trusted (like Brok and Sindri 🥺). Solitude with the protection stave around the forest so nobody can find her, especially not the Aesir when she's the last living Gianr (or so we thought!).

Having one child with this Greek man she met is enough, but having another one or two? When she knew she's going to die? Also when there's nobody to take care of the first one so lol no privacy at all. You gotta have an eye on him at all times and literally no place for intimacy (and the guy she's with has his own issues. He's already scared for his firstborn son, why scare him even further.)

And imagine if Kratos had to like travel with three of his children to the mountain MAN would that be a nightmare. A gaggle of children getting into trouble. We would have gotten a bunch dialogues reminding me of my parents when I acted out at the store, all tight-lipped and muttering "Put. That. Back." or "That's it, I'm turning this car around. Nobody's going anywhere."

But I wonder if either we will see in the next game Kratos embracing his new role as the All-Father, God of Hope, maybe he'll adopt? I know Atreus would be super happy of course, I feel like deep inside he always wanted siblings. Absolutely understandable since he's been pretty alone until GOW: R! And also it's even a more adorable thought if Atreus named Hel after one of his brothers, Helblindi 🥺

Did Faye have children before meeting Kratos? Just like he did when he lived in Greece with Lysandra and Calliope. Interesting to think about...

There’s a chance that laufaye thought about such things but i think overall she was happy with what she has with kratos. The question you ask about her other potential children is a possibility for sure and that could be an interesting thing for atreus to explore if this actually happens. Atreus now is no longer alone as he once was and while kratos misses atreus very much, i doubt that would really happen unless you mean he seeks out some people that hes grown fond of as a spiritual father towards them (ex: angrboda becoming his Daughter in law and their growing relationship as family, his role as the all-father people look up to him as an actual father figure, thrud/skjoldr becoming close to him, etc) or he has kids with freya (personally, i wouldnt mind this at all but it could be controversial for obvious reasons)

one thing that might super hilarious to see in GOW series if that saying "boy" makes a comeback but this time it's not Kratos saying it. It's Angrboda. Only when she's like, busy or sees his trifling (I'm saying this playfully of course, just like she does too <3) ass forgetting about something important.

Like Atreus trying to be smooth and hugging her from the back "You smell good ma what's up-"

hi i'm the anon who sent the victorian era england atreboda au idea and wow!! i'm so glad you all liked it, thanks for the nice comments 🥺🖤🖤🖤 i'm gonna have to think how to continue this, but for now i can imagine angrboda's busy routine.

waking up early morning, because gryla comes in with maids whilst talking loudly and opening up all the curtains in her room, wearing a very heavy gown (petticoats on petticoats...), attending piano lessons 🎹 with a strict russian teacher, then it's tea time with people she doesn't care about (because they're all eccentric, arrogant, and gaudy), after that it's time for ballet practice 🩰 and the instructor is a little weird, but angrboda prefers her over the piano teacher actually.

there's also singing lessons 🎶 equestrian classes 🐎 painting (something she likes, but not when she is forced to draw the same thing over and over per the teacher's demands), etiquettes on how to be a proper lady (walking straight with books stacked on her head 📚), and of course lunch/dinner with the duke/duchess/marquise/countess/baroness whoever gryla invites for the day. the ladies often tell angrboda about their own sons, in hopes of piquing her interest in them. well, if their sons really want my hand then why don't they come see me themselves?! angrboda thought. and she was right. besides, how could she be interested in a fellow she hasn't seen or has no chemistry with?

angrboda doesn't want any of this in her life. it wasn't that she chose aristocracy, rather it was chosen for her. by her own grandmother. if only she could free herself from her own fate... will that day ever come?

Ok ok imagine this: During Atreus' travels - Angrboða is casually spending her time painting in Ironwood, when suddenly a realm tear appears, Atreus jumps out and gives her a quick smooch. And before she can even turn around he's gone.

Now Angie doesn't get scared because he does this quite regularly, but the first time he did it he ended up with paint in his face. She then spend the next hour apologizing "Loki I didn't know it was youuu 😫"

Quick clarification about the last message I sent about why I like Angrboda. I totally agree she is a badass in her own way, the non-traditional way as you said. What I was referring to about the first fanfics about her is that she was depicted as this stone cold axe-wielding warrior who barely showed any emotion besides... seriousness? Basically no emotions.

I kinda understood why she was written like that with the little info about her in the myths and the story of the GoW games, but she was basically like a female Kratos... Not to mention she was supposed to be the same age as Atreus, a teenager. It's very unrealistic. But hey, it's fanfiction, everyone has their own preferences in characters. But this "traditional" badass type of character was never my cup of tea.

The Angrboda we got in GoW ragnarok is the type of badass I personally enjoy the most. The type of person that despite going through a lot of pain and problems, they still manage to remain kind and gentle instead of becoming bitter and resentful. It's a kind of strenght that I personally find very admiring and more important than physical strenght. Sadly, this kind of strenght is very underrated, sometimes even mistaked for weakness.

Anyway, that's why we must appreciate Angrboda! She's the type of female character that is desperately needed but modern media seems to avoid for some reason...😭😭😭

Anon i know what you meant 😭 i think jrpg’s are more likely to do stuff like that than western ones! And i definitely agree that everyone has different interpretations, it is a little odd to have her act in that “kratos”-like way esp what we have now 😭

Wanna know one of the reasons I love Angrboda so much? She's totally not what I was expecting when I knew she would be in Gow Ragnarok!

First of all, her name means "She who brings grief", sounds like a pretty scary name, like someone who brings bad news, or IS the bad news, you know what I mean?

Then there is her role in the myths. She's known as the Mother of monsters, a giantess who was believed to be as malevolent as Loki, with whom she created the monsters the Allfather was so afraid of.

With all this info, anyone would expect Angrboda to be this scary witch of the woods kind of lady, someone you don't want to mess with, and if Santa Monica adds her to a God of War game, it's easy to assume she could also have warrior qualities. I've read a few GoW fanfics that included Angrboda before Ragnarok was announced and most of them wrote her as this badass warrior, incredibly strong for her age and sometimes almost as stoic as Kratos... geez.

But what did Santa Monica do with her? They turned her into the sweetest disney princess girl that loves animals and painting and throws coloful powders at her enemies. Not what I was expecting, but I'm not complaining, she became one of my favorite characters!🥺❤️❤️❤️

Cant even blame you for thinking about her like that in the first place 😭 sms knew what they were doing when creating her and the funniest thing is that she IS a badass! OH OH WHAT ABOUT THIS ATREBODA AU I JUST CAME UP WITH because i'm currently listening to both delightful and brooding classical music. these strings are making me feel things. (bars 🔥)

victorian era england, a son of a working class man (kratos is either a blacksmith in this or does manual labor), walking in a park with his two dogs (speki and svanna! <3). he is there with his sketch book, the park is where he can find inspiration & draw in peace. suddenly he comes across a shiny pearl necklace. someone has lost this, but who could it be? he looks around and sees a young lady, a worried expression etched on her face. she is pretty, has her hair tied up, a fan in her hand, wearing a beautiful gown with bows and, by jove, pearl accessories! that must be hers!

or so atreus thinks. he has never talked to anyone of the aristocracy before, let alone be in the presence of them! but he works up the courage to ask her about the necklace in his hand. it's now or never. "e-excuse me, my lady... is this yours by any chance?"

she looks up, relief washing over her. "yes, it is! oh thank you so much for finding it! i thought i was done for..." it's a prized posession, the set angrboda has on is her mother's. she would have been heartbroken if she had truly lost it, but thnkfully there's a hero around. a lanky and akward hero, but that's not important. she then asks him to help her put the necklace on, which atreus does with shaky hands and shallow breathing (he tried desperately to hide his nervousness. but it worked!).

angrboda notices the sketchbook atreus has. she reveals that she loves to draw as well, she does it often in her free time! atreus feels happy to have find someone who shares the same interests as him, and they both sit on the bench. they talked to each other for a long time, quite animatedly too.

there's no evil stepmother in this story. there is, however, a bitter and misguided grandmother. gryla wonders where the girl has gone off to now. it is time for her singing lessons and preparations for the banquet. but she spots angrboda talking to a mere lower class boy. what is this girl doing? speaking/associating with the common folk? why is she adamant in becoming a laughing stock, like her mother was? her mother's union to her father shook the aristocratic world. it was only a miracle that gryla has gotten a second chance with angrboda. there is no way she will let her tarnish the family name. gryla must set up suitors for her, dukes, earls, barons, whoever it must be! all so she can forget all about that boy and not ruin her chance (even though she's in the wrong. very much so.)
