COMPLETELY OUT OF THE BLUE UPDATE!   I’m not dead, yay! However, I’m simply popping in to say I’ll be moving Kirishima over to a multimuse blog I’m working on at some point over the next few weeks ( likely after my holiday at the end of July ). He assures, reaching down to clasp the other’s hand ( the one that he’d memorized every callous and groove of, the one that had caught him in Kamino and never truly let go ) and hauls him up onto the precipice with him. He heaves out a labored breath that turns to fog against the frigid air, looking out over the valley that sprawled between the mountain peaks as the sun was just beginning to kiss the trees, hearkening the New Year with the very first sunrise; hatsuhinode.

Dropping down onto a rock at the edge of the cliff, he lets his legs hang off the ledge and fishes around in his backpack before retrieving a thermos from its confines. He tosses the hot canister of tea to the other as he settles down beside him, and leans back on his palms to watch the world awaken beneath the warm, gentle plight of the rising sun as it bathes everything it touches in light and warmth without discrimination. Just like the person seated beside him.

❝ – Happy New Year or whatever, shit hair.❞

     “ Okay, okay! Dude, chill out— I’m comin’. ” Kirishima says with a breathless laugh, his grip tight around Bakugou’s rough hand ( the very hand he grasped onto for dear life as they hurtled through the air after staging a daring rescue attempt — the very hand he never wanted to let go of, even long after their feet touched the ground ) as the blond hauls him up onto the rocky ledge beside him. They don’t appear to be climbing any farther, so Kirishima allows himself a moment to catch his breath and take in their surroundings, shaking out his aching legs. With Bakugou leading the way up, he scarcely had the chance to pause and enjoy the sights ( not that he would have seen very much to begin with ), but now that they’ve stopped he can truly appreciate the beautiful landscape that stretches out before them in every direction. A soft glow on the horizon indicates to the oncoming dawn and, in that moment, Kirishima realises why Bakugou dragged him out of bed so early in the morning.

      He follows the blond’s lead and moves to sit beside him on the nearby rock overlooking the valley below, deftly catching the thermos tossed his way without a word of warning. Kirishima sets it aside without sparing it a glance, his gaze transfixed upon the horizon and the steadily rising sun. He holds his breath, eyes widening in silent awe as the first rays finally illuminate the skyline and chase away the lingering night. His head whips towards Bakugou, eager to share in the moment with him, but any words that might once have escaped his lips remain unvoiced, dying on his tongue. 

      Bakugou is ethereal, basking in the rays of the New Year’s very first sunrise, as if he were born from light itself. He seems peaceful in the fresh morning air as the sun warms his face, his breath turning to mist before evaporating into nothingness. Something about the serenity radiating from Bakugou’s expression causes his heart to skip a beat.

     “ Hey, Bakugou? ” Kirishima calls out softly, beckoning his companion’s attention. It takes a moment of soft prodding to coax Bakugou’s gaze away from the horizon, and when the blond finally casts him a sidelong glance, Kirishima nearly loses his nerve. He swallows, steeling himself against the tiny voice at the back of his mind warning him against his intended actions and leans in, a shaking hand lifting from where it rests against his thigh to cradle Bakugou’s unexpectedly soft cheek. He glimpses the frozen expression on the blond’s features moments before his eyelids flutter shut, his lips pressing gently against the corner of his mouth in a purposefully chaste kiss.

      He draws back tentatively, forcing himself to open his eyes and face the reality of his actions. His heart feels like it might erupt through his sternum at any given moment, but still Kirishima manages a small, sheepish smile that does little to convey the emotions raging behind it, and says, “ Happy New Year, man. Let’s do this again sometime, yeah? ”
