Rant on the Underrated: The Chronicles of Nick
To begin this small rant, the book series written by Sherrilyn Kenyon is one of those series I enjoyed deeply in my mid to late teens and feel it is underrated. The Chronicles of Nick of is one of those series I personally feel it should have either a bigger following not simply because of how it is written but the manner of the topics of the series. From the use of multiple forms of religious lore and intertwining them into a means of allowing the world to come to life and that anything is possible.
Though a bit mature in some aspects, I do hope that more readers find it and delve into its world as it does not simply give a person an underdog story turned power fantasy but it does allow a reader to start to follow a rabbit hole in darker themes. Granted, I am biased from nostalgia however it does not take away from Ms. Kenyon work as her series doesn’t simply have books aimed at the series but additional works like manga and comics of the side characters that surround the main character of the Chronicles of Nick.
If you want modern fantasy with dark themes and to be flooded by anticipation then I recommend it. There is so little showed in fandom of what I’ve seen and it may not get big as PJO or Harry Potter but if someone feels as if they were an underdog or an outcast this series will make you feel as if you’re not alone despite the pain of the worlds.

My thoughts on Sabotage (Shadows of Fire 1)
After months since it was released, I finally read it!! (hence my return to this side blog after virtually abandoning it for years 😅) But before I did, I reread all the chronicles of Nick books because it had been soooooooo long since last time I read those that I was sure there were details I'd forgotten. Oh boy! How right I was about that!
Anyway, back to Sabotage. I love it so much. It felt good to be back with the whole gang. I've missed them. The book is a nice set-up for the next chunk of the overall story, but it was too short for my liking! It was over just when it was getting interesting 😞 But after waiting so long for it, I take what I can get!
❗ spoilers ahead ❗
One thing I'm grateful is that we finally had Kody's original name spelled out for us. I know it's silly and Sherri had confirmed it a while ago, but it's the biggest pet peeve I had with CoN. I drove me crazy, absolutely insane, that her name kept changing basically with every new book that was released. I know it's a me thing, and most people couldn't care less about it. I know!! Don't @ me.
My baby Styxx was in it!!!! And for what I can guess he'll continue to be in the series for a bit. i have no words for how happy that makes me!!! But I resent that we didn't see a father-daughter hug!! We had uncle-niece's reunion, but not daddy-kid's?! How's that fair? 😣
And I cannot believe Cyprian's entitlement! OMG! Seriously dude! I mean, I get that as Malachai, he's an angry guy and craves to be loved the way Nick is loved, but like take it with your mother who was the one who sexually assaulted your father in a dream and then she hid you from him. and treated you like garbage. You shouldn't take with the guy that never knew of your existence until like half an hour before you killed him. just saying!
And yes, everyone should be smothered with love as Nick is, but you can't demand it. It sucks when the ones who should love and cherish you don't (i can't even imagine how bad bc I've been lucky enough to have a loving family), but you can't throw a 4-year-old-like tantrum, so massive that transcends time.
"If I don't have it, he can't either... I have to kill him" like what?!! 🤨
My question is, Was Cyprian conceived before or after the curse was broken? Because if was before, it could explain his attitude somewhat, but if it was after, dude! you have no excuse!!!
And now *sighs* I get back to the waiting for the next book.

““ ‘I take it Nick saw something unusual?’ ‘Nothing too unusual,’ Nick said. ‘If you live in a friggin’ video game.’ Acheron shook his head. ‘He handled it well for the most part.’ Nick scoffed. ‘Ash is omitting the part where I freaked out and ran like a girl. Did you know your housekeeper can handle a knife like a street fighter and has no qualms about hacking people up with it?’”

Death scar!
I don’t think he’d show it off on purpose. Definitely don’t think he’s at all proud of the way he chose to die. But I just wanted to show where I imagined the bullet went through. Probably would have made more sense to place it on his temple, but the idea of an equally easy to hide location being the underside of his jaw, thus also affecting the inside of his mouth, was more intriguing.

My Dark Hunters Book Casting
My Casting for the Dark-Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon
A combination of who pops into my head, the descriptions in the books, descriptions and photos on the official website.
I’m not totally happy with everyone, and there are some on going arguments in my house about who should be cast as who.

“All of us are a culmination of vital parts of our parents and their pasts. A vital part of the circumstances we were raised with. Everything that happens to us, good and bad, leaves a lasting impression in our souls. You take one part of that out, and you can completely rewrite something crucial about us. By and large, we’re not shaped by the big things. It’s the little, day-to-day moments that make us who we are. Who we’re going to be.”

“It’s easy to look at people and make quick judgments about them, their present and their past, but you’d be amazed at the pain and tears a single smile hides. What a person shows to the world is only one tiny facet of the iceberg hidden from sight. And more often then not, it’s lined with cracks and scars that go all the way to the foundation of their soul.”

I can only agree with this. Also, I might add that "good guys" not being such is kinda a thing not just in CoN but also in the main DH novels. I always make the comparison between Artemis and Apollymi. Artie is supposed to be good and benevolent because she created the Dark-Hunters to protect humanity, but how did she get the power to create them? From slaving Ash with a blood bond. She does nothing that doesn't benefit her (especially in the beginning, altho I admit she's been behaving lately. Even though I don't trust her. Anytime she can go back to her old ways).
Now, look at Apollymi. She told Apollites how to divert Apollo's curse, therefore, creating the Daimons, true, but none of the Apollites truly deserve that fate, except maybe the Apollite Queen and the assassins she sent. Not even them, because Apollo never cared for Ryssa or Apollodorus. Anyway, that's not the point.
The point is that Apollymi saved Stryker and the Apollites in revenge but also in compassion. For a goddess that has a reputation for being ruthless, Polly has done many, many acts of kindness.
And if we think about it, Cam's meddling comes a looooooooooong way before Adarian and Cherise. If she and Verlyn hadn't gone all sanctimonious about Braith and her first (and only) love and had killed their son Monakribos, Malachai wouldn't have turned evil!!! Everything has been a growing snowball after that.
The ones to blame for the whole the-Malachai-will-destroy-everything are not the evil ones but the so-called good guys.
Fun fact, I can’t stand Cam. Aunt Mennie. I can tolerate Nick’s dad and Artemis more than I can tolerate her. She manipulates like both Adarian and Artie, but here’s the big thing. The thing that makes me dislike her sooooo much. She is the kind of quote unquote “good guy” that isn’t actually good. Remember when Adarian told Nick that those who claim to be the ‘light side” often do terrible things and feel entitled to do them?? That’s Cam. 200%
I understand that people make huge mistakes that really are unforgivable, but we still should try because that’s the right thing to do for yourself. How-in-the-hell-ever, to those who do bad things, horrible things, and then make the excuse that it’s for the greater good of all? Hmmmm, okay, still doesn’t make it alright. MORE THAN THAT, though, those who say that, and DO NOT FEEL BAD ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY FOR THE GREATER GOOD???? Screeewww that. THAT, people, is the type of person Cam is. An example is of course getting Cherise raped by Adarian so Nick could be born. She legit told the room, “we didn’t know he’d come when we weren’t ready for him” and that “Cherise totally overreacted to hearing the truth about her situation. First of all you hoe, she did NOT overreact. At all. If anything, her reacting violently was underreacting. Secondly, and I’ll say this until my death, YES SHE WAS MEANT TO GET RAPED, A MALACHAI CAN OOOONNNNLLLYYY BE BORN FROM VIOLENCE. Only born from violence. Not “oh, the Malachai will so totally fall in love with her and they’ll be happy together.” You know, after she talked about how monstrous Adarian was. This is just one example of Cam lying to make her actions sound less evil. Also, she freaking KNEW what happened to Cherise, and had the balls to call Adarian handsome like Nick. Notice how she didn’t respond??? Be it was not a gosh darn compliment and that piece of trash knew it.
Cam manipulates as much as the dark gods, and like them, she does not give a living hell. She feels like it’s her duty. That is something Adarian had said about the side of light and I actually agree with his monstrous butt. They make up excuses and feel entitled. THAT makes me hope Nick doesn’t just up and forgive Menyara when his memories come back. Not until she GENUINELY feels that what she did to Cherise, Nick, Jared, and even Adarian was wrong. Because fact is, it was wrong. No excuses. Adarian was completely inhumane, but that doesn’t mean that what she did was okay. Evil does not breed good. Ever. I will never respect Cam until she- like many others in the series- learns to stop interfering.
