will this rp be 18+?

hello! due to content and upcoming plotlines, the original plan was to be 21+ ( including any face claims ) but after asking my coadmin, it'll be lowered to either 19 or 20+.

there's mention of "old gods" / are there "new gods" in this world? or, rather, can you talk a little bit about the world around these sects? what's the form of government, economic disparities, environmental status. how much has the world changed without light? dsjsasjkl sorry for so many questions jammed into 1 ask

oh, no! please don't apologize! some of these have bits already written out that will be in a world building page ( and everything that wasn't before, now is ) but i'll still try to answer everything. as this got a bit longer than intended, it's under a readmore.

' are there new gods ' well, that depends on who you ask. religion is similar to how it is now ----- there are believers and non believers, both. a lot of people still believe in those who would be classified as the old gods, and a lot of people believe in deities that came around after the disappearance of the sun. the country itself is considered polytheistic.

the sects are exclusive to the country the rp takes place and the vast majority of citizens belong to a sect. it's a rare thing that someone does not belong to a sect and it essentially makes them invisible ( think : if you weren't issued a birth certificate. ) around the world, things vary. some countries have similar structures, some don't. border skirmishes are common. the sects themselves have their own subcultures that plays a part in everything from fashion to music to how they observe certain holidays.

each sect has it's own government which deals with things in sect ( there are rules and laws that are sect exclusive, for example ) and there's another branch, filled with elected members of each sect, that deal with things on a country wide level. both branches work independently and in different areas so as not to have any overlap. 

the country is considered a wealthy one though a wealth disparity is there. each sect has it’s rich and poor members, but how they treat them is very different. moonflower tends to not acknowledge the less fortunate members, where datura, for example, likes to take care of those in the sect. children with nowhere to go are brought up by the collective, the elderly are taken care off, charity is common. similarly, rainlily brings in kids off the streets and gives them menial jobs in the government buildings as well as housing and meals. the capital city holds some of the wealthiest in the country, but very little of the poorest. most of those without a lot of money are typically found in villages and towns near the borders where skirmishes happen yearly and where food production can be difficult and tourism is nearly nonexistent.

the sun did not, exactly, disappear from the sky. it's still there, giving off heat, it's just that it stopped giving off light which wreaked havoc early on. a large amount of plants died off leaving people to eat primarily meat diets mixed with the small amount of edible plants that don't require sunlight. 

as science developed and got better, scientists brought back a large amount of plants and developed ways to get them to flourish without sunlight. now, even the average person is capable of gardening with minimal effort. solar radiation management has become a large field of study : scientists have found ways to make clouds whiter and make them stay in the sky longer, particularly over oceans. 

seasons can be more extreme, especially the colder months. certain areas can drop quite low, though the main city is not one of them. the fall / autumn season dips lower, too. though the sun still gives off heat, summers tend to be milder in most areas. 

due to the amount of time without a lot of light, humans have developed better night vision, though it's not needed as much anymore as most populated areas have access to lights. on the other hand, animals have evolved into twisted versions of themselves. larger eyes, sharper teeth, some of them developing characteristics typically seen in underwater fish.

THE GLADIOLUS SECT

THOSE WHO MAKE THE DARKEST PARTS OF THE GLOOM THEIR HOME BELONG TO THE SECT OF GLADIOLUS. they are the criminals, the thieves, the street fighters. the soldiers, the villains. they lurk in the shadows more than any of the others, prone to appearing when least expected. they are wraiths and knives and blood soaked floors and the people they watch over are no different. crime is rampant in their area, something they often spur on for their own entertainment. they sometimes work hand in hand with the datura sect, blurred lines and edges in some areas bleeding through and causing overlap but where datura focuses primarily on entertainment both hedonistic and not, gladiolus likes it better when it takes a bloody turn.

gladiolus members tend to find themselves in occupations where strength is looked favorably. from street fighters, contract killers, bouncers and bodyguards to physical therapists, first responders, construction workers and athletes, there is a wide range that members tend to choose from.  while crime is rampant and nearly encouraged, there are several members who prefer to earn an honest days living.

THE DATURA SECT

THE ENTERTAINERS, THE PURVEYORS OF ART AND PLEASURE. they leave their mark with neon lights and beckoning hands just as often as they do with museums and galleries. the darker areas are filled with sweet smelling smoke that lures you deeper, teases you to stay longer and here people go missing more often than anyone else. sometimes they turn up surrounded by velvet and silks and haze, others they're never seen again. devoured by the promise of heady enjoyment. other parts of their buildings scattered around the city are almost stark opposites. white halls full of paintings and sculptures in buildings that themselves could be labeled works of art. galleries and studios in various states of disarray. still, they threaten to suck you in, drown you.

datura sect deals with art and beauty and most members work in fields that celebrate them. yes, there are museum workers, bar and club employees, but there are also artists and celebrities, animators and beauticians, art instructors. everyone's idea of what classifies as art or performance differs and members of the sect know this intimately, resulting in a wide array of occupations.
