The Shopping Liaison
There isn't a soul who doesn't enjoy shopping. Just imagine life without a year of shopping. I guess you are cringing at the mere thought of it as I surely am. We shop obviously because we need to however there are times when shopping serves as a feel good factor when we pick up that handbag without much reason. It serves in bringing newness and change in our lives. Shopping is also a great way to mingle with friends and loved ones. Shopping during festivals bring us great experience. A festival is not complete without shopping. India is a diverse country with different cultures resulting in festivities throughout the year. Diwali is one of the most popular and important festivals celebrated in India and by Indians around the world. Diwali marks the victory of good over evil and is rejoiced by decorating homes with lamps and thus Diwali is called the ‘Festival of Lights’.

New Delhi is a great place to shop and is one of the best traveller’s hubs for the same reason. The best part about stepping out into the Delhi markets is that it gives us a great cultural experience. Delhi is known for its markets like the famous Chandni Chowk, Connaught Place, M Block in Greater Kailash, Central Market in Lajpat Nagar, Hauz Khas village, Sunder Nagar and the flamboyant malls like Select Citywalk in Saket, Promenade in Vasant Kunj among others. The Crescent mall and DLF Emporio is a junction for designer wear as top designers have their showrooms there. Delhi is also known for its exhibitions and festive fairs like the trade fairs in Pragati Maidan, the annual Diwali Bazaar at the Blind Relief Association in Lodhi road, bridal exhibitions and you also get to witness exhibitions conducted in the local markets during the festive times like Diwali. There is no room for boredom in the capital city with constant celebrations and events.

All of us are smitten by the online world and its services. Online shopping is one of the most important services that the internet brings us and it has grown to be widely accepted gradually. Shopping at a click provides us with innumerable benefits. You can purchase your favourite stuff anytime of the day as the online store is functional round the clock.

The best part about online shopping is that you can get products from different parts of the world at one place. Online shopping brings the convenience of your purchase being delivered right at your doorstep. It cuts down on travel resulting in lower fuel consumption thus making it environmental friendly. Markets especially during the festive times get crowded and online shopping comes as a savior for us to shop at ease during these times. Online shopping brings us so many options and choosing to go online for shopping is the smartest thing to do.
So our liaison with shopping is here to stay, stronger and forever.

Dress the Tress
I think dress, hairstyle and make-up are the crucial factors in projecting an attractive persona and give one the chance to enhance one's best physical features.
- Vivienne Westwood
Don’t we all agree with the above quote? In this blog post, we are going to talk about the importance of hair style and the latest trends.
It is hard to imagine a complete look without dressing up our tresses. Our hairstyle is our extension that projects our personality to the world. A bad hair day can really mean a bad day and I say this after witnessing a few instances. Good or bad, its human nature to perceive things as they appear. Your hairstyle can create opportunities or take them away. But most importantly, when we like the way our hair looks and feels, it unarguably increases our confidence and we feel ready to take on the world. Hairstyles have helped celebrities from Bollywood or Hollywood, sports world, fashion world or music world create their distinctive style and gain huge followers.

Let me throw light on some unforgettable and iconic hairstyles of celebrities. The British royals surely know how to style their hair. Any guesses? Well, the answer is easy. Lady Diana’s soft crop was a huge hit and was much replicated around the world. And now, Kate Middleton is already known for her straight hair and shiny locks. When we speak of hairstyle, how can we not mention Victoria ‘Posh’ Beckham? Victoria’s bob hairstyle was renamed as ‘the pob’ (posh bob) and became the most followed styles. Jennifer Aniston’s look in the world famous sitcom ‘Friends’ became viral and till date if anyone needs to get a similar style they just need to request ‘the Rachel’ at salons everywhere. Curls being so in, I really like the full curls look of Julia Roberts. And then we have Lady Gaga who is notorious for her hairstyles. Well, with the right attitude you can easily carry a Lady Gaga look. I would also like to add the retro look and talking of retro reminds me of Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, such great fashion icons. We often get to see celebs sporting the retro look but I guess no one does it better than Katy Perry giving the look a twist with colours.

The latest trends that we got to witness at the recent Wills India Fashion Week were the buns and topknots, curls and waves, side braids, bob and crop and lots of twists. You can accessorize your hairstyle with pins, hair bands and clips of various kinds.
So next time don’t let your bad hair day give you a bad day instead give it some twist and turn and be ready to rock and roll. Stay stylish – ‘right hair, right now’.

Finishing Touches
When it comes to everyday dressing, one thing that you will appreciate about the Indian woman is that we hardly put makeup. The genetically blessed dusky skin, doe eyed Indian beauty does not need any artificial add on’s to floor the crowd.
Call it the influence of the entertainment industry or fashion drift backed with media exposure, slowly now the trend is changing. The kajal and bindi’s have been supplemented by mascara, lipstick, foundation and the works.

We spoke with some very famous makeup artists at the recently concluded Wills India Fashion Week about the trending bridal looks and international makeup focus this season. Senior makeup artist at brand MAC Sonic says - This season is all about glossy skin and simplicity. The focus is to bring out the real woman in you. Smudged kajal or darker lips is all that is needed to keep pace with the trend. Ruby woo by MAC his favourite lip colour is what he strongly recommends.

Makeup maestro Ambika Pillai says – Makeup is not about loading up your skin. Let the sheerness of the skin come through the foundation. Create focus on either the eyes or lips.
This season's fashion week runway saw some ravishing multihued lips. Oranges and reds seemed to be all makeup artists hot choice. The eyelashes got its fair share of attention too. Eyebrows grew bushier and busier.
As Sonic puts it across- The real woman was omnipresent on the ramp. One who does not try too hard to please. She is comfortable in her own skin.
We asked Sonic to give his valuable inputs on bridal looks.
He says, Brides in India have intense colours on their lehengas or sarees. He prefers to stick to the earthy tones for the face. If at all a bright colour lip is all that is needed. The hairdo preferences can vary according to the brides hair length and texture. Since there is a lot of jewellery on the head, his advice is to go with a chic bun with a parting of choice. Or else go with an interesting french plait or cascade braid.
So keep it minimal this season. Be real be free.

Grandma’s Flower Power
Our dearest grandmothers have always been smitten by the flower power. We get to witness flowers blooming in their front porch garden and often adorning their kitchen table, curtains, and dressing tables. But grandmas’ love for floral abundance is best exemplified through their dresses. Whenever we think of our grannies, they remind us of their warm smile, the puddings and those pleated collared lacy floral dresses.
I do not guarantee the warm smile or the puddings, but floral prints and designs have definitely been adopted by the younger generation of designers in their collections. These dresses are very popular and are generally seen in casual and chic style generating that ‘oh so romantic’ and lively aura. Floral designs have been incorporated by creative designers onto jump suits, dresses, maxi dresses, gowns, sarees, tops, tights and even on accessories like bags, scarfs, earrings, bangles, hair bands etc. These dresses are a hot favourite on the international ramp.

The most interesting thing about a floral dress is that we can wear it in any season and not limit it just for the spring. During the winter season, we can pair it with a blazer and tights and be ready to go. We can choose fabrics like satin and cashmere during winters to help keep us warm.

Girls would agree that dresses occupy a staple space in their wardrobe and they wouldn't mind adding a few more bunches of those gorgeous flowers in their collection. So what say girls? Ready to step into your grandma's shoes? Or better still 'Dress'?

The Jewel Affair
Can we actually think of a time period when jewellery was not adorned by men and women? In fact, as per archaeological research, jewellery made from shells, stones, bones have survived from ancient times and are displayed in museums across the world. Talking about jewellery in the Stone Age reminds me, on a lighter note, of Wilma Flintstone and Betty Rubble from the super hit TV cartoon of all time The Flintstones. Jewellery in early historic time was probably worn as a security from dangers or as a mark of status or rank. The latter we can still witness in the form of crown decorated with metals and gemstones worn by monarchs to symbolize authority.

The art and purpose of jewellery has evolved overtime from the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Medieval Age and now jewellery is believed majorly to be an expression of beauty and style. With the onset of contemporary, arts and crafts and designer jewellery, avant-garde jewellers like Ambar Pariddi Sahai have developed jewellery into a wearable art.
The Jewellery Label, Mine of design, is an initiative of Ambar Pariddi Sahai, a top class accessory design graduate from NIFT, New Delhi, India. She specializes in beaded coloured stones jewellery incorporating it with gold, diamonds and sterling silver. Beaded jewellery has been the flavour of fashion since ages and it occupies a hotspot in the Bollywood world. Remember the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the movie Devdas wearing those beautiful jewel pieces.

The works of Ambar Pariddi Sahai are subtle, minimalist and classic. Her designs become a defining element of one’s personality, one’s taste and one’s persona. A special fact about Mine of Design is that the label supports the entire cycle from conceptualization, design, sourcing of raw materials to making of jewels to packaging under one umbrella.

Jewellery, over the years, has played many roles - from cropping wars to symbolizing love; from being a subject of poetry to spreading its super natural gem stone powers and from being a source of investment to being the reason for bankrupt women. Whether traditional or contemporary, jewellery undeniably is right on top of everybody’s style list.

The Reigning LBD
"One is never over-dressed or under-dressed with a Little Black Dress."
― Karl Lagerfeld

I really don't know what magic underlies a little black dress but moment it's worn, we feel extraordinary, unconquerable, super confident and beautiful. From early years till now, LBDs promise to always be in fashion.
There are days when we are indecisive about what to wear. The trusted LBD always comes to our rescue in this situation and never lets you down. The colour black undoubtedly helps us look slimmer, sexier and attractive. All those attention seekers would agree that their LBD is the best thing happened to them because if you are wearing one, be sure to be a headturner.
The LBD can be dressed up with lace tights. Add a little bit of bling in your look by wearing eye-catching jewellery. Otherwise, you can even carry a glitzy clutch to add that extra sizzle.
So if you are not yet an LBD club member, it's high time to get some black in your rack.

Five Fall Fashion must haves
by Sonalika Sahay
Black Pumps
“Shoe transforms your body language and attitude. They lift you physically and emotionally.” Christian Louboutin.

The perfect pair of black pumps can save your day. Peep toe or closed, they can up your style quotient and complete any look you adorn. Wear it to office, a romantic dinner or to a party.
Personally I’m a huge fan of skyscrapers, but if its too much for you to handle just go for the kitten heels. You've got to do what you've got to do. I know how difficult it can be to dance the night out if your shoes are killing you.
Avoid patent leather, its very yesteryear's look. Go for wax finish leather instead.
Avoid pointy toes. Rather go for the rounded off toes like model Miranda Kerr.
So the contender no. 1 ‘Black Pumps’ has to claim a rightful place in your wardrobe.
Skinny Jeans
Calvin Klein and Kate Moss have pioneered the revolutionary denim culture.

Remember the controversial Kate Moss ad with Mark Wahlberg for CK denims in 1992.
There are many ways to dress sensibly, so as to not let the weekend indulgence and those extra pounds show. All diets have failed and all workout schedules have gone for a toss. All else has failed, so what women do best, fake it.
A skinny pair of dark denims can help you do that. Just pair it up with the right top and you are good to go. And if you dare you can even drape a half saree on the denims to get the boho chic look.
You have to have a basic blue and black option available at all times in your closet. I’d say go for a lycra mix fabric. It’s easier to move around and gives the perfect fit.
Article no. 2 ‘Skinny Jeans’ an absolute must have for all seasons.
Black Blazer
Blazer is flattering for any body shape pear, oval or hourglass.

It is a timeless classic that can be modified to adjust to the era. Add some folds or a big bow or an origami like shape and it turns trendy.
Layering clothes is the key to good styling. If you are dressed for a casual day and have to rush into a formal evening dinner, just throw a blazer on top of any tee or dress that you are wearing and voila!!!! You will transform into your formal avatar.
Two basic colors Red and black is what you should own.
Personally I am a sucker for color RED. Red lips, red shoes, red nails, pretty much anything in this crimson hue fascinates me.
But if you are more of an understated dresser go with black. I would recommend adding a colored scarf with it to just add a dash of happiness to your look.
Article no. 3 'Black blazer' is what takes you a step closer to your style destination.
Sultry Scarf
When it comes to scarves, I’m a collector. A hoarder more so.

It’s an integral part of the winter wardrobe. It’s the easiest way to cheat people into believing that your look is different everyday.
A colorful cotton stole with tassels can be the focal point of your look. If you are experimental enough you can even innovate many different ways to tie and drape you stoles for different looks.
Article no. 4. 'Scarf' is the key ingredient to spice up your fall look.
Slit slashed skirts peek a boo dresses
As the temperature falls the layers increase and your sexometer takes a plunge. Here is an easy way to keep the winter sex appeal high. A small serving of thigh can make the look edgy and engaging.

Skirt slashes is the easiest way for the humble skirt to keep the interest going in the cold weather. Renowned designers like Loewe and Guy Loreche have showcased leather skirts with high slits on the runway for F/W’13.
Article no. 5. 'Slit skirts'.

Bollywood Style Bites
Coco Chanel rightly quoted that fashion is something that doesn't exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, and what is happening.
So when we talk about fashion being omnipresent, how can Bollywood be left out? Fashion choices in our country are unarguably influenced by Bollywood’s trends. We have always got inspired by our favourite celebrities.
The 70’s saw Bollywood actresses like Asha Parekh and Mumtaz dressed in miniskirts, tight fitted suits and sarees, flared trousers and the flower shower everywhere. Men’s fashion in those years adopted impeccably fitted shirts with bright patterns and big collars. Remember Amitabh Bacchan in the movie ‘Don’ donning the bow-tie aviators and the long collared shirt look.
Now bollywood dresses in high end designer wear, chic accessories, rich colours and innovative dresses. Indian fashion designers have transformed Bollywood stars into style icons.

They have even reached the fashion domain as showstoppers and are widely welcomed by the media and audience.

We often get to see Indian stars like Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor walking the ramp in fashion shows as show stoppers wearing that “amazing anarkali” or that “breath taking saree”.

Designers like Manish Malhotra, Raghavendra Rathore and Namrata Joshipura amongst others have helped define bollywood fashion and we can witness great rich design work in movies like Jodha Akbar, Eklavya and others.
Men and women of all age groups are highly inspired by Indian cinema and this trend is here to stay and grow with the passing of time.

Handcrafted Luxury by Gaurav Jai Gupta
Who would have thought that dresses made from the traditional handloom could be ultra-glamorous, alluring, impeccable and classy? Well, here is Akaaro for you, the brand setup by Gaurav Jai Gupta, who is a trained woven textile designer from Chelsea College of Art and Design, London and a fashion designer from NIFT, New Delhi. The handloom sector provides nearly 25% of the total cloth produced in our country and also adds significantly to export earnings. Handloom as compared to power looms and mill sectors is matchless in its flexibility and versatility thus encouraging innovative designs. Handloom forms a valuable part of the heritage of India and exemplifies the richness and diversity of our country and the artistry of the weavers. However, the handloom industry faces cut throat competition from the growing power loom sector and its due to designers like Gaurav Jai Gupta, handloom is able to withstand the competition.

Gaurav Jai Gupta is renowned for the minimal style in his creations and for creating different kinds of textures and pleats. Patterns are visualized and created and subsequently stitched with different colored threads. His forte is seamless clothing with the help of single swatches that gives fitting similar to stretched Lycra. He presents a unique weaving pattern and crystal embossment in his classic designs. You would witness not just great clothing but a captivating experience altogether.
