I wish everyone would admit that classic literature is inherently difficult to read, and that you shouldn’t feel stupid if you don’t “get it”. Especially the dark academia/ classic lit fandoms and stuff. Like unless you have the vocabulary and pop culture knowledge of an 18th century nobleman, it’s going to be a tough read. It’ll take you longer to read; you’re not stupid if you’ve spent several months on a single book! And you don’t have to enjoy everything. It’s okay if you got bored after one chapter of Wuthering Heights, and couldn’t be bothered to read the rest. It’s okay if you want to read your favourite kids book for the 10th time instead. You’re not stupid. No piece of literature is inherently better, more “important”, more “meaningful”, or more “intellectual” than another. First and foremost, read what brings you joy.

☆Owen & Mark☆

Mark was about to fall asleep when he heard a noise coming from the other boy.

‘’ Owen?’’ He asked his friend as he stared at his bareback.

No answer but the same muffled noise. Mark understood and simply wrapped an arm around his friend’s waist. No question asked, no comment made. He brought him closer to his chest and let him cry in the dark.

As he held him, he could tell how tense the young leader felt, his frail body shaking every time he tried to suppress his cries. He was clearly lost and scared.

‘’ Owen, you are a good leader. You are not alone. Whatever happen, we will face it together.’’ He whispered to Owen's ear.

‘’ I just want Christian to be there … I want things to be … back to … what they used to be …’’ Owen struggled to say between the tears as he chocked up.

‘’ I know Owen, I know. I miss him too …’’ ‘’ Everyone leaves me. Mother, Christian and now Brian wants to leave too … ‘’

More cries echoing before he managed to say:

‘’ You will leave me too …’’ Owen chocked up again, unable to finish his sentence, just the thought of it seemed to scare him. It broke Mark’s heart to know him so vulnerable.

‘’ Listen to me Owen.’’  He waited for the body to stop shaking before speaking:

‘’ You changed my life and not just mine … I know that Christian last days were his happiest thanks to you. Brian might be taking a different path, but the reality is that if it were not for you, he wouldn’t have had that opportunity. You pushed him and thanks to you he became a better musician … you changed ours lives for the best.’’

Mark heard Owen sniffling twice. He finally stopped crying.

‘’ I always been a creative person, but I was too afraid to pursue my dream of becoming an artist. I wanted to write, be on stage, but never had the drive to diligently practice any instruments until Christian; told me about your idea of starting a band. You changed my life.’’

‘’ You mean it?’’ Mark heard his friend sheepishly asking which was such a contrast with his usual confident persona.

Mark only smiled before kissing on his shoulder:

‘’ You have no idea. I never met someone like you Owen. I feel so blessed.’’

‘’ Thank you, Mark, … I’m sorry for being such a mess … so uncool of me …’’

‘’ Don’t be sorry. We all have our moments.’’

‘’ I need to find a logo and I can’t think of anything … the one I found back then was cool. I will never be able to beat that.’’

‘’ Owen, we are a team. Sometimes this week, we can meet at the library and brainstorm together. Two heads are better than one. We can do it.’’

‘’ Okay …’’

‘’ Feeling better?’’

‘’ Yes … a bit drained but way better.’’

‘’ Try to sleep now.‘’

As soon as Mark tried to remove his arm, he felt Owen's body tensing up.

‘’ I’m not going anywhere Owen; I’m not leaving you … ever. Now sleep.’’ He tightened his arm and immediately felt the other’s body relaxed.

Mark’s words had such a positive impact on him. He was feeling safe and for the longest time, he felt wanted by someone … not just for sex, but for who he was as a person and what he had to offer to this world. It felt good to be wanted.

Super Sentai in France!

I’ve talked before about how Super Sentai spread before it ever came to the US as Power Rangers but that mostly focused on Brazil and a bit on South Korea with a digression to the Phillipines.  However, one place I haven’t really mentioned was France, which began airing there in 1985.

The first series to get a French dub was Choudenshi Bioman from 1984.  It dropped the first part of the name to just become Bioman and was pretty much a straight dub.  

The producers even created a French language version of the theme song sung by Bernard Minet.

It was very popular and resulted in more Super Sentai becoming dubbed for the French audience.  This brought over both Hikari Sentai Maskman and Choujuu Sentai Liveman as Bioman 2: Maskman and Bioman 3: Liveman.

Once again, there were French theme songs for these series though they were not just adaptions of the Japanese themes but all new compositions such as the Bioman 2: Maskman:

As with so many places exposed to Super Sentai, the popularity of these shows inspired local fan creations and unofficial entries.  The most famous one in France is Jushi Sentai France Five!

And these were the heroes of that series!

It’s not an entirely serious series, as you may be able to tell from those names.
