Don't feel the need to write the same genre for everything you write--and don't feel the need to write a genre across all types of things you write.
I write horror, but only for flash fiction. I write sci fi only for longer pieces. I write romance and fantasy across all lengths.
You can play around with the genres you write and find what works with you, and you can experiment as you'd like. And it's okay to decide that you can only write certain genres certain ways or to decide that you hate writing a genre even if you enjoy reading it.

just so you know i wrote a poem one time that i hated and i was so so so embarrassed about but i had to post it as part of a whole situation with some friends and it got like 3 million likes across my socials and people made zines about it and adapted it to songs
and then i wrote a poem a month ago and i was like "this is my best work yet. it's the most important piece to me i've ever written and sharing it will be self actualizing." my friends didn't even like it.
and the point here is that i talk to so many artists who make something successful and then they're so scared to follow it up and they say "what if the next thing i make sucks?"
it might! that's art babbeeyyyyyy!! so make a third thing!

My girlfriend sent me this post from reddit and I couldn't agree more with op. Palia truly is such a wonderful game, everyone is so nice and we don't have to worry about spending real money or watching a thousand ads to play. They had a whole expansion for free, they have animal husbandry coming by the end of the year just because the players expressed it would be a cool addiction to the game and they also started working on a whole new map. I'm really grateful for this game and the community

the transition from people needing each other to wanting each other is literally one of my greatest weaknesses that shit makes me want to walk into the sea and sit on the ocean floor for a thousand years

just let the character say the thing. stop making them stare wistfully into the distance like an indie film protagonist. let them speak

the insane experience of missing a fictional character . like you can always go back and reread the book , replay the game , rewatch the show or movie , you can always go back & see them , but you can never experience them & their story for the first time again . its absurd to miss them because they'll always be there , but you'll miss when there were still new things for them to say .
for a small time they were real & growing and changing and you hung onto every new word, but now all they can do is repeat the same story forever&ever & they're not real anymore because you know everything they're going to do. & you miss them. its fucked man...

I won't stop saying it: in fanfic-writing, you make your own rules. Write whatever the fuck you want to write
Sometimes it's that you haven't written that fanfic of that genre yet because you don't have confidence in your writing talents, or you have some learning and improving to do in your writing, or you're afraid of the audience reception.
Sometimes it's also just that the said genre is not for you. Write what you're confident in and what makes you happy. It's okay to leave the rest alone.
Unless you're receiving payment to diversify and to be more creative and to "impress", you have every right to stick to your comfort zone.
Write the same fanfic five times with five different endings. Write one genre of fanfics. Write all genres ever known to man. Write for 75 fandoms. Write for one fandom. Update once a year. Update every hour. Write only 200-chaptered stories. Write only drabbles. Write the tamest stuff. Write the kinkiest stuff(tags exist for a reason). Write different love stories for one character you love. Use the same lines or words.
Do anything and everything as long as you're happy and having fun. If there are too many negative emotions(fear, self-doubt, mental stress, worry, anxiety, overthinking, etc.) attached to your writing, then you're probably taking it too seriously.
Nobody has the right to shake your fanfic-writing peace and make you doubt how great of a writer you are, not even YOURSELF or YOUR READERS. This shit is free and meant to be for fun and relaxation.
