I did a little painting to play around with colors on a small canvas with far too large brushes. Loosely inspired by memory of other wonderful creatures I've seen on this website. People have great ideas about colors.

A new WIP

An old wallet template I was gifted. It doesn't have any of the original pieces to complete it, but it IS a good piece of leather to learn on

I completed a commission for a phone holster. I tooled the pattern, wet molded the front, dyed it, trimmed it, lined it with sheepskin added the hardware punched the holes and sewed it up, oiled it and burnished the edges in that order. Found out in the process that the sheepskin is too soft to burnish and that was a pain, but i still managed to get it to smarten up.

I made a tool sheath so I'd stop losing my shears in the grass. I also did my first ever successful basket weave pattern (done with a little stamp and a lot of mindfulness). I kept the design tight to the center because I was kind of flying by the seat of my pants when it came to the overall pattern. It fits very comfortably at my side.

I'm working on the final piece on my kit and I thought I'd show a bit of the midway work so you can see the inside of a bi-fold. I tooled a few extra lines to match my old wallet. It's a bit of a strange design on the pockets! It's very skimpy in the way certain things overlap so I had to be very careful to avoid an awkward gap. The tape is glue strips,a necessity when you are punching holes through multiple layers.

For Christmas I recieved a leatherworking kit, with a few projects inside of precut leather (still needed to punch the holes myself). For this I tried dip dying the pieces black, and as you can see it sure did.
There's a lot of features to leather goods that you would never notice unless you were the one making it, like the zigzag of a hand sewn saddle stitch, or the smooth, flat edges of multiple layers of leather that would have been sanded, burnished and treated (i used beeswax).
It's a simple and understated item but I can't deny the use of a super thin wallet for a short trip out.

I’ve been playing around with some cheap alcohol markers and it’s been a nice change of pace. I redid an old monster design as practice and really enjoyed the process. Now if only I had a desk that was easy to draw on.
