I just wanted to talk about this little shot here. He says his name like he’s said it before, countless times to more and more greenies. The first time someone new came up in the box he was probably excited, or maybe a bit apprehensive, that someone else was there with him after being in there for a month on his own. Now years later, he’s meeting the greenies but it’s different. There’s barely any emotion at all, it’s just another guy to add to the group. He says his name almost methodically, not to mention the questions he asks after about whether Thomas remembers anything also seem like they’re just standard new-guy questions. The little smile, it’s hardly a smile, it’s like he’s forcing himself to do it. He doesn’t want to smile, not really. There’s no reason to smile. But he knows what it’s like and he knows it must be hard for Thomas, so he tries to look at least a little comforting. A part of him is probably hoping that there might be something different about this greenie, maybe he’ll have some kind of clue of how to get out, but he doubts it, but either way he should try to make sure they stay on good terms. It’s another guy to add to their Glader family, he’s still his own person and he’ll add to their community and help them thrive.

But I guess we all know how that theory turns out.

Since Johanna Mason was the only living female victor of 7 for the Quell, I would like to think that when they called up “Ladies first” she just stomped over, grabbed the piece of paper herself and shouted “GEE I WONDER WHO THE FUCK IT COULD BE?
