Un Poco Loco
I’m not the first person to say this, but I’ll say it again anyway—one of the things I loved about Coco was that the adults were adults. There’s a feeling of real, complex relationships, with all their ups and downs and in-betweens, especially for Héctor and Imelda. I originally liked the idea of Un Poco Loco being written for Coco, because the nonsensical answers seemed just right for a toddler playing with her papa. But after hearing the commentary about it being written for Imelda, I got hooked on that idea—that the person you love can make you a little bit crazy, and yet things persevere anyway.
This was originally supposed to be a lighthearted 3-page comic, but then my own experiences kicked in and it turned into something a little deeper about the trials of young parenthood, fledgling careers, and the sacrificial give-and-take of marriage.
Special thanks to @mygardenofmuses for proofreading the Spanish!

Coco
Are people still talking about Pixar’s Coco? I’m not new to being obsessed with the movie, but I’m new to Tumblr and talking to the fandom.
Coco is my favorite movie so I hope the fandom is still going strong! I have some thoughts and ideas about the movie that I’d like to share.
Let me know if you also love Coco and I can follow you!

Hector’s Old Hobby (oneshot)
Originally posted this on my ff.net account. Figured I might as well post it here too.
As teenagers, Hector and Ernesto loved to write bawdy comedy songs together. Their hobby died off as they got older but wasn’t completely forgotten. As it turns out, having a secret collection of filthy songs to you name can make life difficult, especially if you have a lovely but stern wife, a sweet little girl, and a best friend who loves to give you a hard time.

Made this Hector comic based on Gael García’s movie scene from this funny thread by @im-fairly-whitty : https://im-fairly-whitty.tumblr.com/post/170419647049   Altho Hector turn out more serious than I imagined so I end it off with his head popped off! Imelda tells him to fix it back on.

I can’t get this idea out of my head.
Imagine Héctor on Día de Muertos, 10-15 years from now, looking for his favorite great-great-grandson at the Rivera household. He enters the ofrenda room to see Miguel holding an adorable little nibblet of a baby, partially swaddled in a purple blanket with an orange guitar pattern, and introducing the family on the ofrenda to him like he did with Socorro on Héctor’s first Día de Muertos with his family.
Miguel points to the century-plus old photo at the top of the ofrenda and says, “and that’s Mamá Coco when she was a little girl - and that’s Mamá Imelda, your great-great-great grandma. And last but not least, this is your great-great-great grandpa Héctor!” And he looks down at his firstborn son, who smiles toothlessly and gurgles.
“That’s right, he’s Héctor too! We named you after Papá Héctor, you see?” Miguel tickles baby Héctor, and looks back at the picture with a smile. “Papá Héctor was a musician, like your Papá. Maybe you’ll want to be a shoemaker instead, like Mamá Imelda? You can be anything! And we’ll always, always love you. Your family here, and your family in the Land of the Dead too. Papá Héctor is probably going to be so happy to meet you tonight, Teto!”
And for the rest of the night, after he’s done sobbing happily, Héctor is positively glowing, and keeps mumbling “Miguel named him after ME…!” in awe and hugging everyone and refusing to leave baby Teto’s side even when the little guy is all tuckered out in his Papá Miguel’s arms.
