Repeat after me:
It is OKAY to have content preferences and to be uncomfortable with certain ships or topics, controversial or not. It is OKAY to distance yourself from such content and block certain tags or creators.
It is NOT OKAY to actively hate and harass real people for creating content of fictional characters that features things that make you uncomfortable.

with the way this show progressed, we'd have seen Ed's bare ass as the first scene of s3

"This Sudden Burst of Sunlight" is now complete!
Ed has resigned himself to the fact that he's not going to be getting a happy ending. He's bored with his art and unsure if he can be the kind of person he wants to be, and he's tired of waiting around to see if his life might get better. Just when he's started to plan on not being around for much longer, enter Stede Bonnet. It's still not easy to choose to live, but…with a little help, maybe Ed can give it a go.
This is a story about learning to love being alive even after you've given up on it, about finding beauty even when it feels fucking impossible, and about realizing you may be sinking, but you can untie the rope dragging you down, and sometimes all you need is a little help.
72k words, rated E, 15 chapters. This fic starts in a very heavy place (nothing worse than the beginning of s2, but please do mind the tags) but by the end it's full of so so much hope and love and fluffy goodness. I hope you'll give it a shot!

Ed is just. He’s so happy. He’s fucking THRILLED to be back together with his boyfriend. It’s got him saying nearly incoherent shit in a room full of people. He’s rambling about cats in a life or death situation. That man is delirious with happiness after a lifetime of suffering.

I really appreciate your answer, thank you! I'm not an Izzy fan myself (too much personal baggage that the character taps into), but I am genuinely curious about the logistics of Stizzy and Izzy interpretations in general.
It makes a lot of sense that Stizzy starts with Steddyhands -- that's another situation that isn't my thing, but the show definitely sets those dynamics up in a way that I understand! I also get the joy of exploring ideas and potential situations outside of the constraints of canon. The show gave us a bunch of great characters to play with, and those characters aren't particularly married to their canon place and time. That's an easy setup for AUs (and tbh, probably more than half of the Gentlebeard fics I've read were AUs themselves, so).
Thanks for laying out some scenarios and bringing in a pro-Stizzy perspective! I really couldn't imagine how anyone would go about getting those two together, so you did satisfy some of my curiosity.
I've been encountering more Stizzy out there lately, and whatever, ships aren't moral indicators, don't like don't read, etc. And so I do not read!
But, like. What do Stizzy folks do with Ed?
Stede adores Ed and would never so much as consider someone else, especially not someone he has a mostly antagonistic relationship with. In-show-Izzy is so tied up with Ed that I don't even know what you'd do with him in an Ed-free environment. Do Stizzy writers kill Ed off? Make up whole new universes where Ed never existed (and in that case, why don't Stede and Izzy just hate each other forever without Ed to bring them together)?
I don't like any Izzy ships because I think everyone else on the show deserves better, but this is really the only one that makes absolutely no sense to me, not even as an enemies-to-lovers situation.

sometimes it just strikes me how completely in love ofmd is with its own story.
it has become so ubiquitous to tell stories with a kind of emotional detachment. getting into it but not too much. keeping vulnerability surface level. undercutting truly emotional moments with jokes so as to not overwhelm the audience - or avoid making yourself, as a storyteller, vulnerable to criticism. there's a safety in irony.
if you laugh at yourself first, you're taking the wind from the sails of those who would make fun of you, yes? better play it safe. keep it mass compatible. do everything you can to mitigate the risk that someone would not like your story by assuring the audience you know when something is kinda corny and dw, you are in on the joke! imagine saying this in earnest. haha. couldn't be me.
(obviously not all stories are like this; all i'm saying is that it's a delicate balance to keep and comedies often err on the side of caution imo)
but not ofmd. ofmd lets its characters have those moments and lets them linger. leaves the space blank where a lesser show would put a joke to allow the scene to resonate. it's as cheesy and campy and over-the-top and romantic as is little heart desires and it refuses to ever make a joke of itself, even when it's funny.
it loves its story and loves its audience, completely, earnestly and with the promise to never make fun of you for getting invested.
how can you not fall in love with it right back.
