i actually think good points are being made on all sides of the sabrina carpenter discussion. NO her persona is not feminist YES female artists should be able to be overtly sexual in their art on their own terms the same way men are YES the way she has chosen to do that caters to the male gaze YES imagery about women being subservient is objectionable YES a pop star in her twenties being sexy/suggestive = fork found in kitchen YES the sexy baby thing plays into regressive stereotypes and is not empowering YES there's clearly something tongue-in-cheek about her whole deal YES her brand of femininity leans into camp/parody which is in all likelihood deliberate and so on and so on it's all true it's all fair you're all basically right*

Honestly, I think this is the kind of attitude more people need in their life. It’s better to do the thing and do it ‘poorly’, than not do it. Seeing things through means something
Apparently there was some kind of race scheduled at a local park or something so I've been trying to avoid the main trail but a little while ago when I had to cross near it I overheard the following shouted exchange
Higher feminine voice: woo, look at you go! You're jogging! Keep it up!
Lower masculine voice (panting): you know it! Last place is still a place, baby!
And goddamn if that didn't rewire my brain a little bit.
Last place is still a place, baby.

Trump appears to have made the military decision without consulting Congress, which (under Article I of the Constitution) has warmaking powers.

United Healthcare getting sued by its investors, because it didn't warn them that the CEO getting murdered (by the tendrils of their unmitigated greed) was going to lead to them approving more claims (for covered services that they had no right to deny) is a cartoonish example of exactly why their CEO got murdered.
Their argument is essentially "You promised us a specific profit margin that is not possible to achieve under this increased public scrutiny of your unethical practices. We only agreed to invest because of those unethical practices. So we demand compensation because you didn't warn us that you'd be behaving more ethically"
And idk. Satire isn't just dead. We've pissed on its corpse and now it's dissolving in lye.

one thing white christians will certainly never understand is that every day i swallow 90% of the things i want to say about my own community because while my criticisms are valid they also can be so easily misinterpreted and become weapons in the hands of white supremacists. and that means that important, essential discussions are not happening, or they are happening behind closed doors between people who already agree with each other, never actually furthering the debate. and this doesn't just break my heart; it makes me blind with rage and frustration because i look around me and we are running in vicious circles. and even typing out this post i am speaking around the subject. i am not overly fond of privilege discourse but it sure is a privilege to be able to loudly and brashly talk shit about your own people. even at my angriest i can't, i choke on the words. so i just have to sit with it. all the anger and the sadness and the love

"Pride is not a party"
Yes the fuck it is, stop being a baby
Yes pride is a riot and a fight and yadda yadda yadda but you are not revolutionary for sucking the joy out of queerness. Sometimes, pride is a party. It is a celebration of the fact that we are here, we're queer, and we're not going anywhere. And that is just as important as throwing bricks and fighting cops, actually.
If your activism doesn't allow you to enjoy the fruits of your labors you will burn out babe. Go suck some dick. Hit on that lesbian. Get the faggy haircut!!! Dance, for the love of god.

if you don't do anything else today,
Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.
have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.
and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.
black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.
if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.
This is Juneteenth.
white people CAN interact with this post. share it, spread it.

The Supreme Court has upheld Tennessee‘a ban on gender affirming care for minors today, their reasoning stating that it should be up to the states and the elected officials, more or less. This is a massive blow to the trans community. It will not stop with minors, they will continue to eradicate gender affirming care for all people, even cis.
I’m in a deep red state, one with the same law in the works while they were waiting for the Supreme Courts decision. To all my trans sisters, brothers, siblings, entities or whatever, I must encourage you to get a supply of your meds refilled as much as possible. I do not wish to be doom posting but this was their plan for years now. Please don’t give up. Continue to live as your authentic selves if it is safe for you to do so. You need to live.

actually as long as we're talking about realistic expectations of ageing, the nature of social media decontextualising people's personal posts has absolutely given some of you guys a false and potentially dangerous view of how your body is expected to change over time. I semi frequently see people sharing or repackaging commentary on experiences with disability as if it's an inevitable part of getting older. and like, yes, as you get older you are likely to develop new conditions, injuries or disabilities, but you need to understand your body's baseline well enough to identify those changes and interrogate them.
e.g. if you are seriously having such bad joint or back pain in your 30s that it hampers your day to day activities, you need to take that seriously. that is not 'just ageing', that's potentially an indicator of an underlying condition, unaddressed injury (which is quite common but will get worse if you don't notice and take care of it) or daily habits (poor posture, poor diet, sedentary lifestyle) causing cumulative damage to your body.
I know plenty of 30+ and 40+ year olds who are not especially athletic but who can still climb up and down stairs with ease, sit on the floor and get up again without discomfort, have floor or shower sex, ride a bike, wrestle a dog or a kid, climb a tree, maybe even do a handstand. there is no shame at all in developing pain or mobility issues which limit the kinds of things you can do comfortably, but it doesn't serve anyone to pretend that those changes are bound up with reaching a certain age. even in your 60s and 70s and beyond you should notice if you start feeling a new kind of pain or physical limitation. don't dismiss this shit just because someone told you "yeah that happens when you pass 30"
