I also love this illustration, which is one of the earliest concept pieces Peter Brown did for the robot.

When robot Roz opens her eyes for the first time, she discovers that she is alone on a remote, wild island. Why is she there? Where did she come from? And, most important, how will she survive in her harsh surroundings?

Roz’s only hope is to learn from the island’s hostile animal inhabitants. When she tries to care for an orphaned gosling, the other animals finally decide to help, and the island starts to feel like home. Until one day, the robot’s mysterious past comes back to haunt her…

Neil: His line to me when we were writing “Good Omens”, he would phone me up and he’d say, I’ve just done this and it’s made it 17% funnier. I’d written this whole meeting between the International Express man and Pollution and I’d mentioned that, you know, ‘he and his wife went down there sometimes when they were courting to spoon’ and Terry added the line, ‘and on one memorable occason, fork.’

Rob: On one memorable occasion.

Neil: On one memorable occasion, and it‘s made it 17% better. In fact, in that case it may have made it 100% better.

“My character’s name is Curt Wild, but he’s based on Iggy Pop. I watched a lot of tapes of his stage performances to try to understand what it was he did onstage to get his audiences so riled up.” Something must have sunk in because when McGregor performed as Curt Wild for 400 unsuspecting extras, he mesmerized them with his raw, uninhibited performance, stripping naked, dousing himself with oil and sparkles and then diving unannounced into the stupefied crowd. “When the scene was over, I looked at the extras and the crew. Everyone was literally speechless. They had no idea what I was going to do. It was a great moment for me. I love extraordinary situations and I thrive on excess so becoming Iggy Pop was something that seemed quite natural.” Though he is married and has a young daughter, McGregor, 28, says he wasn’t the least bit intimidated by the sex scenes he has with Jonathan Rhys-Meyers and Christian Bale. “I’m very confident in my sexuality, so the thought of hugging and kissing another man doesn’t bother me in the least. It’s actually quite exciting because it’s so far outside my normal experience.”
