Many were hopeful the Triwizard Tournament would serve as a distraction from the ongoing war, but the inter-school competition created challenges of its own. Several champions have perished over the years, but in the 1976 tournament, death extended beyond its competitions. Renowned journalist Rita Skeeter described the tournament as being an uncivilized debacle that stole [our] brightest youth. Following the tournaments conclusion in 1977, Ministry officials discontinued the competition indefinitely. Not only did the Triwizard Tournament fail to pacify warring bloodlines, its negative publicity hindered faith within the magical community. MOBILE NAVIGATION

Event 002: Back to Black
End Date: September 15, 2017
Event Participation: Somewhat-Required
Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore kicked off the school year with a tremendous reveal, Hogwarts has been chosen to host an inter-school competition known as The Triwizard Tournament. This year, students from Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and Durmstrang Institute will be studying within the castle, eager to represent their respective schools and compete in the tournament. From now until October, students from all three schools will have the opportunity to place their names in the Goblet of Fire and vie for their chance to become a Triwizard Champion. But until then, classes will resume as usual.
With the first lesson of the year taking place on Monday, students have the entire weekend to reunite and summarize their extended holidays. Rumor has it a couple of mischief makers have already started celebrating in the Room of Requirement. The Fat Lady tells me the whole corridor has been rearranged to resemble a muggle speakeasy, and that fire whiskey is not optional. If you plan on attending, be mindful of your 10:00 curfew and be weary of prefects that may hunt you after dark.
Posts made over the next two weeks should acknowledge the fact that the academic calendar has just begun. Your student or professor is not required to attend the “special party” currently taking place in the Room of Requirement. However, actions may not extend beyond the first two weeks of school. Flashbacks are the only exception to this rule. If you have any further questions, please contact the main page.
It should be noted that the Goblet of Fire is now located in The Great Hall. If you would like to submit your name, please revisit our application page. Students may compose threads revolving around their decision to participate in the competition, or their decision to remain on the sidelines. You have from now until October to officially enter the competition and to perform these suggested interactions.

Congratulations, MOUSSE! Your name has reached the Ministry of Magic, and they are more than excited to have you supervise APOLLINE MAURY. I know that celebrations are in order, but first we have to take care of some housekeeping, otherwise your wand registration form won’t make it to Hogwarts before the start of the tournament. Please direct your attention to the welcome letter we have attached to this parcel. Have fun tidying up, and thank you for your interest.

I really love Apolline but I'm not really feeling any of the FC suggestions, do you have any other ideas for her? Thank you!
Elizabeth Olsen or Willa Holland could also work for Apolline Maury. Keep in mind that she is the mother of Fleur Delacour, so we want an actress that resembles Clémence Poésy. Also, please be aware that after this Friday’s acceptances we will no longer be accepting alternative face claims.

CHARACTER INTRODUCTION
Nadya Dvoretskaya is hard to get to know and even harder to befriend, but she’s honest, loyal and exceptionally kind to the people she considers close. And though loving people and expressing love doesn’t come easy for her, those who she loves, she loves deeply, and would do anything to make them happy.
full name: nadya dvoretskaya
pronouns: she/hers
blood status: pureblood
education: hogwarts, ravenclaw, fifth year
orientation: bisexual
WIZARDING BIOGRAPHY
Nadya Elizaveta Dvoretskaya lost both of her parents at the age of three. She was born to the actress Olga Ozerova and the poet Vladimir Dvoretsky, two Russian pure-blood wizards whose families had come to England after the Second World War to flee from their grim lives in the Soviet Union, meaning that Nadya’s life began in a household that highly valued the fine arts.
They were not a happy family - Olga and Vladimir had long grown cold to one another and fought daily, it seemed that having Nadya had been their last desperate attempt to save their marriage, but in the end it just drove them even further apart. Both of them were unstable artists, inconsistent in their feelings and thoughts, and governed by emotions. Though they claimed to love Nadya, she was undoubtedly neglected - they were rarely home and therefore did not spend much time with their daughter, entrusting most of her care to a nanny.
However, this life did not last - in 1964, Olga was diagnosed with lung cancer and, to make it worse, refused to undergo any treatment. She died just a few months after that. The incident caused Nadya’s father to start drinking excessively. He perished, too, soon after his wife’s death in a car accident. Both of their deaths occurred before Nadya’s eyes.
Nadya was then taken in by her aunt. Her mother’s sister, Viktoria Ozerova, was an eccentric pianist - though she, too, was chaotic and somewhat distant, Viktoria was a lot calmer and more stable than either of Nadya’s parents had been, and she loved and cared for Nadya as if she were her own.
Having borne witness to the deaths of both of her parents made Nadya harden and mature faster than she would have had this not happened, and it made her contemplate and learn to accept her own mortality very early on. As a result of that, she doesn’t fear death anymore, but rather derives strength from it, seeing it as an integral part of the process of further creation.
However, this took time. Nadya was a quiet and anxious child that kept to herself, was easily frightened and prone to irrational behaviour. It took years for her to come to terms with what had happened to her parents, but overcoming that trauma helped her mature into the resilient, confident and fiercely independent girl she is now.
Despite her disturbing past, Nadya lead a prosperous life from that point on - her aunt took good care of her and although her job required her to travel often, she would always take her niece along no matter where she went. At Viktoria’s house, dinner parties and cultural events are a common occurrence, so growing up Nadya was able to get to know many writers, thespians and musicians from all around the wizarding world.
Her aunt took her to see different plays every week, taught her how to play the piano and the violin, speak French and hired a teacher to make sure Nadya would receive proper education. Nadya quickly grew into an independent child who thought for herself and sought answers to fundamental questions about life and death, and existence itself - and Viktoria only encouraged that.
The biggest room in her aunt’s house was the library which was where Nadya spent the most of her time. She read anything and everything, every day she could be spotted in one of the armchairs with her nose buried in a different book. Over the years she became especially fond of the Russian and English classics, and philosophical novels.
Nadya loves reading, she loves thinking and creating things. Since she started exhibiting signs of magical powers quite early on and was nearly always surrounded by other wizards, magic never really fascinated her as it would have fascinated a muggleborn, but she loved it nevertheless, because it allowed her to do and create wonderful things. Over the years she’s given into a sense of superiority over muggles and though she harbours no hatred towards them and acknowledges that some of them, too, are capable of astonishing things, she is certainly prejudiced and far prefers the company of wizards.
But when her Hogwarts letter came, she felt anxiety instead of excitement. Nadya loved her life at home and didn’t like the idea of being shipped away to some boarding school where she didn’t know anyone. She was used to the company of grown-ups and didn’t really have friends her own age - Nadya wasn’t very sociable or amiable, and enjoyed spending time on her own.
However, Hogwarts proved to be better than she had initially thought. Nadya was sorted into Ravenclaw - a quick decision on the Hat’s part - and was pleasantly surprised to find out she was the only one from her house that year, meaning that she had a dorm room all for herself. She enjoyed all of her classes at first, but quickly lost interest in most - though her grades were good, she didn’t invest herself too much in the subjects she didn’t like, finding that her talents would be put to better use elsewhere. Nadya occupied herself with creative writing, mainly adapting Russian classics into plays, and reading about and researching anything she became interested in - currently, alchemy is an obsession of hers. Over the years the young witch has become interested in the Dark Arts - to her it’s an innocent hobby, since she’s simply experimenting with spells and potions, and not harming anyone. Besides, in Nadya’s opinion, it’s better to understand and be capable of all kinds of magic in order to protect yourself.
Since Nadya is always surrounded by such a refined crowd at home, she is very selective and even snobby when it comes to not just making friends, but also who she merely spends her time with. She doesn’t care too much about blood purity (although she does seem to have a slight preference for purebloods), but she looks for intriguing individuals with distinct personalities who are able to hold intellectually challenging discussions about a wide range of topics. Most of those who do not fit that description either annoy or bore her, and Nadya never hesitates to criticise them if that’s the case - it’s needless to say that she isn’t widely liked. Despite this, Nadya is good at handling criticism of herself and her actions, if it’s reasonable, and even tends to make jabs at her own flaws using self-deprecating humour.
Though Nadya is confident in all her actions and decisions, and feels like she has to do everything on her own in order to succeed, she does get lonely and often craves someone to share her thoughts with. But she has a hard time letting people in, and she refuses to lower her own standards and get rid of her prejudices, and that leaves her with few companions and fewer friends.
Nadya Dvoretskaya is hard to get to know and even harder to befriend, but she’s honest, loyal and exceptionally kind to the people she considers close. And though loving people and expressing love doesn’t come easy for her, those who she loves, she loves deeply, and would do anything to make them happy.
amortentia: parchment, varnish and nettles
boggart: nadya’s worst fear is losing her mind, so a boggart would present her with a distorted version of reality where she is forced to question her own sanity due to her inability to properly think, or control her actions.
patronus: thestral
wand make: 12 ½”, yew, dragon heartstring, quite bendy
face claim: josefine pettersen

Congratulations, TEA! Your name has reached the Ministry of Magic, and they are more than excited to have you supervise MIMI DUPONT. From what I hear, Rita Skeeter has already spread a rumor about that polyjuice potion you used. ANA DE ARMAS, correct? We cannot wait to see their face around the castle. I know that celebrations are in order, but first we have to take care of some housekeeping, otherwise your wand registration form won’t make it to Hogwarts before the start of the tournament. Please direct your attention to the welcome letter we have attached to this parcel. Have fun tidying up, and thank you for your interest.
