A message to the younger members of the community, and those who doubt there place in it:

Beings don't care.

I went to a therian meet up over anthro northwest. And it was NOTHING like the current online spaces, especially all the discourse.

There was no fighting. It was beautiful. Beings were freely using whatever labels they wanted, no one cared "why" someone identified as something, mental, spiritual, physical. Everyone was like "Hey, cool!".

Older folks talked about their time in the community while the younger ones did quads. People howled, played with squeak toys. No one cared. And most importantly, everyone agreed the infighting was pointless.

You WILL be accepted irl. This discourse doesn't matter. You are going to find your beings, and none of these online pissing contests mean anything once you meet others off the screen.

It's a beautiful place out there.

”when I was little”

(I’m referring to something that happened last night)

thinking about how i always opted to play with animal toys over dolls

while i did like barbie, monsterhigh and bratz etc there was usually only one main black character (if any) that was supposed to represent black girls as a whole

problem was i didn’t relate very much to these characters besides having the same skintone

however with animal toys (lps to be specific) i could define myself rather than having things being assumed about me because of my race

it was freeing

i also watched a lot of lpstube which unknowingly fueled my therianthropy (and being a furry)

i related to savanna reed (lps popular char) because of her insecurities and difficulty with bullying and her being a dog didn’t make that any less real

her “humaness” was the forefront of her character, almost like her being a dog was a coincidence

its funny how animal toys made me feel more human than the toys actually modeled after them

Your overly punctual classmate is a moth, and your less than punctual classmate is a hummingbird.

A goldfinch shops at a gift shop.

A catfish tours you through a historical site.

Across the street is a banshee who is walking their dog.

Cats work on their computers in small cafes.

And you move through your life as you are.

We are unique but certainly not alone. Your community is around you, even if you do not see it outright.
