I love the depiction of the gang crying and being terrified of what's going to happen to them. They could have so easily made them being captured a non issue for them that they brushed off and immediately started coming with a plan we often see in cop/detective shows, that often gives the characters a chance to avoid real world conflicts and it takes you out of the show because of the lack of realism in life and death situations.

This is raw human emotions, of fear, panic, and dread that anyone would feel in this situation. They are human beings, but they are also young adults, non of them know what they are doing and so they show all of them, including the level headed Gumpa crying in the van because they're just making it up as they go along, trying to fight for what they believe in, but are making a ton of mistakes at the same time because they don't have the right answers.

it's sort of beautiful in a way.

Story time!

The most scary thing that Sean has ever seen or heard in his life is Black and White doing the stereotypical 'finish each other's sentences/being in sync' twin thing.

They stopped doing it at a very young age because they understood that it annoyed their parents (screw them), but the brothers never lost that ability of knowing each other's exact move.

The first time Black and White do this, they're all in the garage and the twins had teamed up to mess with Yok whose eyes got progressively larger with each word passing from their mouths. He had been teasing them about how different they were and "are you both even twins? It's not how tv dictates twins should be"

And Black and White had turned to look at each other, their heads turning back to Yok, lips stretching into the same creepy smile and everyone in the garage felt a shiver go down their spine as Black opened his mouth.

"You see Yok-" he said

"-It's not that we can't do it-" White continued.

"-it's just that we don't want to-" Black shrugged.

"-we're our own person-" the twins chimed together.

"-but mostly it's scary for people-" they continued.

"-I mean look at you-" White

"- you look like you're about to wet yourself-" Black

"-and that makes us very happy-" they fucking synched again!

"-which honestly White said was mean-"

"- and Phi agrees of course-"

"-no, I don't-"

"-Yes, you do-"

Black cut off the back and forth to glare at White who raised an eyebrow.

Yok grabbed Gumpa's sleeve.

"Hia, I'm scared!"

"Are we sure we have a problem with being mean to people?" Black fake whispered to White. Sean saw a smirk go up his boyfriend's face who replied, "I don't know, Phi. It is quite fun."

And Black's lips widened into a matching smirk, the brothers gazing at each other with evil mischief (more like sadistic glee) and Sean felt Gram shiver alongside him.

Yeah maybe it was better Black and White weren't the stereotypical twin types. They seemed to become less Black and White and more Grey and Grey.

Day 7: Main or Minor Family

so i just saw your post (post/696402925627604992/something-about-this-little-expression-breaks-my) and i agree!!! i mean, the whole scene was so emotional for me, beginning from pete realizing having sex with his captor/abuser while still being captured is not something he wants, and how he softens when he sees the bruise on vegas' face. he hates what vegas did to him, and he is also falling for vegas as a person, but given the abuse he endured (and how familiar the situation was, to love his abuser) its no wonder that it's messing with him. so beginning from the way he flinched when vegas slowly drops the noodles… i'm guessing that pete is probably thinking, "well, this is familiar too". it breaks my heart every time i rewatch the scene. (but no matter how hard it was to watch that, they did bring us to what happens next - the whole conversation about pete being human and vegas' remorse, which to me, is an important moment to trigger the trajectory of their relationship throught the rest of the episodes.)

this scene puts me on my ass every time I watch it 😭 for the exact reason you said, this is so familiar to pete and that's what made me make that post, it's pete's realisation and resignation that actually sleeping together hasn't changed the reality of their situation. it's untenable, and despite the large part of him that wants to stay he knows it will destroy him if he doesn't get out.

specifically this moment, of pete reaching out and being slapped down, is his breaking point because he has to face up to reality: no matter the feelings and desire between them he is still captive and the way vegas treats him is still abusive. pete who, broadly speaking, has a better grip on recognising the fact that he was abused and why, can see this for what it is whereas vegas is mimicking his father without even consciously realising that's what he's doing.

and like you say, this moment is VITAL because it means in about... 30 seconds vegas is hit with a freight train of realisation of exactly what he's done to pete and is doing to pete, and although he still doesn't fix it (he couldn't have possibly fixed it in that moment), him finally being able to see that is how we get to vegas tracking pete down at the bar just to apologise, and eventually confessing his love in the garage. with full awareness of what he's done and how he's hurt pete, no easy fixes.

(yes I am still thinking about tearing the argument scene line by line/expression by expression and i can't promise it will be interesting but it probably will happen regardless)

What I'm impressed about both Vegas and Pete is their characters' developments, apparently, their entire life, they sacrificed their lives and souls for someone else that they no longer value themselves as a person but as tools and pets for others. Vegas for his father. Pete for the main family. In order to protect the people they generally care about, Vegas for Macau and Pete for his grandmother, they literally sell their souls to Gun (Vegas) and the Main Family (Pete), just to get noticed and seen by those people, but in the end, they are only worth for each other.

So I'm impressed that in the end, both Vegas and Pete FINALLY made their own decisions and finally make it about themselves for the first time after so long. Without a push or an edge, they both probably wouldn't be able to push past it on their own.

Pete's escape was the push for Vegas to get himself loose from his father's wrath and route. It was a push for him to do something for himself and that Pete is now his goal in life, not his father. Yes, he still follows his father, but this time around, it's NOT for his father, it's for himself and Pete. He asked Pete if they could start over again. "Just you and me." He really meant that. In the end of episode 13 to 14, he risked his life to see Pete, to keep Pete safe, and to have Pete happy and be proud of him.

And Vegas' confession was the push for Pete to finally be selfish for once and decided to make his own decision, to follow his own heart, Vegas. In episode 14, his resignation from the Main Family and him following Vegas to the pool scene, was really powerful. Because after he asked for resignation, he was allowed to, he didn't hesitate following Vegas because he felt it was safe enough for him and Vegas that they wouldn't be in any danger of having someone tailing them to shoot them, or Vegas. But then that stupid Main Family's bodyguard, out of nowhere, shot Vegas, not once but 4 TIMES. I think, from there, Pete might felt betrayed by the Main Family, especially Korn, and I think since the time he escaped from Vegas, his loyalty was already expanded to Vegas, not the Main Family, so after what his former colleague did to Vegas. His mind towards the Main Family must probably be pessimistic now, although he's still loyal to Kinn and Tankhun, but he probably will not tolerate for what their people did to Vegas, his new-found relationship and family. He's finally made his decision for the first time, and he will not let it waste by anyone's hands.

Note to self:

Vegas may have got his fingers in the cracks and pulled Pete open, but Pete was primed for it because there were already hairline cracks in his little tailorbird perfect bodyguard armor from Porsche. Any look at the Pete-Porsche relationship has GOT to be informed by the monumental fact that Porsche was probably the first person - in how long? - to make Pete actually feel anything (other than useless), and that’s why Pete was willing to walk into the lion’s den for him. The very act of infiltrating the minor family compound for info that would not only help the main family but also exonerate Porsche was a way for Pete to be actively useful and therefore alive in a way he hadn’t felt in who knows how long. (And I think he would have done it for Porsche anyway, but I also think his mindset wasn’t helped by the fact that he was coming off a series of spying missions that he tried to tell Kinn he wasn’t good at and that he kept failing at, which probably didn’t help with the issue of feeling useless, nor of needing to find something he could be useful at before he went out doing what he’d been trained to do - offering himself up as a sacrifice for the main family.)

That’s also why the probability of being captured and tortured and killed was something Pete seemed to be fine with - once Porsche was exonerated, Pete’s usefulness was done, so why not die and escape the meaningless useless nothingness his life would just go back to? In the meantime, he was already looking forward to capture and torture because it made him feel something, because it was for Porsche before it ever became about Vegas and about Pete’s response to Vegas, back at the point when Vegas was still a means to an end, for Pete. At the point when Vegas was still nothing more than a tool of violence, the way he was for everyone else in the main or minor families - just one that Pete was going to turn on himself, for a little bit of pain to feel alive one last time before committing suicide-by-Vegas.

And Vegas plays his role, because that’s what he does, that’s what he’s been trained to do, that’s what been beaten into him (lit. and fig.) his entire life, that’s what everyone - including he, himself, at that point - thinks he is. The torturer, the monster, the beast. The tool of violence. God, no wonder Vegas was so angry at the beginning. It’s a feedback loop of dehumanization. What Vegas does to Pete at the beginning of their arc is so obvious and in your face, it almost obscures what Pete’s doing to Vegas.

“Everyone is a monster to someone. Since you are so convinced that I am yours, I will be it.”

I need to think about all of this some more.

And then after pete left, he (as majority of us have come to conclude) had prepared food for himself and pete because he was expecting him to come back, like he did before.

Vegas was in his comfy clothes this time.

And so many of us have discussed already that when he’s comfortable and reaching out to pete his clothes are comfier and he looks less like vegas the ruthless mafia boss and more like a simple man just trying to be gentle

And now I’m sad again

And somebody pointed out that while Pete was touching all the places vegas had touched him in this scene

Vegas was touching his left knee as you can see, exactly where pete had put his hand to comfort him when his hedgehog dies

That kinda broke me ngl
