School Zone by Ningiyau
Tumblr media
(Also known by Seven Seas as School Zone Girls, even though the original title was already English)
[dynasty-scans link]
School Zone is a solid recommendation simply on the basis of it having my favorite tag: idiot couple. The leads of School Zone are so stupid they’re not even a couple, because they’re absolutely incapable of being normal people. And that’s probably one of my favorite dynamics. It jumps from character to character, making it sort of like if AnoKiss was just a bit unhinged.
School Zone is a comedy manga first and a yuri second, which puts it in a weird place in my recommendations, which are largely romances. But there’s enough gay to keep me satisfied and enough stupid antics to keep me entertained while I wait to see if there will be any romantic payoff, so I can still wholeheartedly recommend it.

Sentimental Beach Side by Asaka Takishima
Tumblr media
[dynasty-scans link]
A yuri one-shot about a naive woman grieving for her recently deceased cat, and a girl who works as a tourist trap at the island she vacationed to. I’m mostly recommending it because I think it’s really cute and sweet, and I love this mangaka’s art.

The World Exists for You by Usui Shio
Tumblr media
[dynasty-scans link]
A cute school girl oneshot by Usui Shio, of the recently-licensed Crescent Moon and Donuts. This one’s close to my heart, because the feeling of being a background character in someone’s story is a familiar feeling to me. Ultimately, this is a story of valuing yourself, so you can value the important people in your life. It’s cute, it’s sweet, it’s touching... I love it a lot. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

This series just got announced as a license for Seven Seas Entertainment under the name Donuts Under a Crescent Moon. If you enjoy it, keep an eye out for its official release! Support good yuri!!!
Crescent Moon and Donuts by Usui Shio
Tumblr media
[dynasty-scans link]
It’s Valentine’s Day and what better way to commemorate it than with girls love? Crescent Moon and Donuts is a cute new series that’s caught my eye lately about two women in the same office, and the emotional hangups holding them back from the lives they want. However, Hinako Uno begins to break from her prison when she starts feeling warm feelings around Satou-san… and she might even be able to love herself, too.
(Apologies if this post isn’t up to my usual standards. I had to make this on mobile because it’s the last day of my trip to visit my girlfriend. The best girls love is real girls love 💝)

I Favor the Villainess (Manga) by Inori and Aono Sumio
Tumblr media
[mangadex link]
Okay, so this maaaaay be a waste of a recommendation, but my blog, my rules. If you liked the sound of I Favor the Villainess, but novels just don’t click for you, good news! A manga adaptation is serializing in Yuri Hime, and god scanlators have jumped right on it. Please enjoy the story of Claire Francois and the girl who wants to be bullied by here at any cost. It’s absolutely my favorite. We need more yuri isekai.

Notes From the Garden of the Lilies by Suga Atsushi
Tumblr media
[dynasty-scans link]
This series is a self-indulgent rec, to be honest. I mean, all of these are self-indulgent recs, but this one I can safely say I’m mostly recommending on one main basis: it has one of my favorite relationship dynamics to read. I am a sucker for honor student with a hidden darkness x “delinquent” with a heart of gold. The way honor student Misono playfully toys with Yuri with a smug smile on her face is just... *chef kiss*
Is that gap moe? I don’t know what gap moe is.
I do genuinely enjoy this series outside of that, though. It’s short, but it’s also sweet and endearing... despite what I said above.

Rock it, GIRL!! by Tanaka Minoru
Tumblr media
[dynasty-scans link]
Rock it, GIRL!! is tagged Comedy, Drama, and Angst, and it deserves all three of them equally, which makes it an emotional roller coaster, let me tell you. The story of a singer and a guitarist/song writer who love and hate each other in equal measure, it’s told in Tanaka Minoru’s distinctive art in a somewhat disjointed fashion, skipping forward and back in time a couple times, in the sake of presenting their story in the most impactful fashion. It took me a bit to wrap my head around on the first read, but I understand now why it’s told the way it is. It’s at times cute, at times cruel, at time hilarious, at times heart-wrenching.
I don’t know how else to describe it; it’s a very different yuri experience that most, and I think for that alone it’s worth trying out, to see if it’s the experience you’ve been looking for.
(I waffled on whether or not to tag this as yuri with adult characters for a while, and i’m erring on the side of tagging it, because while the leads start the manga at age 17/18, it still feels more like a manga about adults than a schoolgirl manga in the end, which is what the tag is intended to differentiate from. If anyone disagrees, and thinks it should be removed, let me know.)

About a Fussy Girl’s Yuri by Yu-Ki Takasaki
Tumblr media
[dynasty-scans link]
It’s been a while since I recommended a oneshot! I tend to focus on series so readers have something to sustain them for a while. So here, have an adorable bit of fluff about a very fussy girl, and the girl who can’t get enough of her. Cute art, cute characters, cute concept. This is the ideal form of a yuri oneshot.

The Two of Them are Pretty Much Like This by Ikeda Takashi
Tumblr media
[dynasty-scans link]
A cute, fluffy series about a script-writer and a voice actress sharing an apartment. It’s mostly just silly relationship things, and I can’t get enough of it. I feel like this is a really short recommendation, but just. What can I say but it’s a really cute couple, being really cute?

Bloom Into You by Nakatani Nio
Tumblr media
(Also known as Yagate Kimi ni Naru, often shortened to YagaKimi)
[dynasty-scans link]
I’ve gone a long while without putting this series up on the blog, because I wanted to start with series most people might not have known, and Bloom Into You is extremely popular (with good reason.) But I had to get to it eventually; this series is so personal to me that I would be remiss not putting it on my yuri blog. Actually, I might spend more of this post talking about the importance of this series to me than I do about the series itself.
The anime adaptation of Bloom Into You was actually the first yuri anime I ever watched. This was back in 2018, before my name became synonymous with yuri among my friends. Though I had been out as a transgender lesbian since 2012, I didn’t try to get into yuri, because I figured I just didn’t like romance. Bloom Into You changed that for me; it changed my whole life. It’s such an artistically-told, heart-touching story about love and growth and people and loving women, it opened my heart. After it was finished (and I watched it again) I wanted more. I wanted to experience the joy of this kind of love again and again, and so I sought out yuri and my love for it exploded. It turns out, I do love romance stories; the barrier to me loving romance as a genre was just the presence of men.
It is not just for personal reasons that this series is so dear to me; even after my quest to enjoy all the yuri the world has to ever (except for degenerate shit like Wataten) it still ranks as not just one of my favorite yuri manga, but one of my favorite manga of all time. The characters are so richly written, Nakatani Nio’s art is so gorgeous and emotional, the conflict is so personal and human. It’s not just a romance between two girls, it is their (and their friends’) story of growing and changing. I have never been as invested in a series as deeply as Bloom Into You before, and I don’t know if I ever will be again.
One last personal note about Bloom Into You is that it actually helped lead to the development of my current relationship; my now-girlfriend watched it to become closer to me, and our mutual enjoyment of it really did help us grow close. It still holds a dear place in our hearts; we have matching pins, mine of Touko, hers of Yuu. Whenever I look at mine, it reminds me of the connection we share even when we’re apart.
Bloom Into You has been licensed in English by Seven Seas, so if you wind up loving it even half as much as I do, please consider buying it. Nakatani Nio is a goddess among mangaka, and I want her and the stories she writes to thrive.

Kiss and White Lily for my Dearest Girl by Canno
Tumblr media
(Also known as Ano Ko ni Kiss to Shirayuri wo, usually shortened to AnoKiss)
[dynasty-scans link]
AnoKiss is, I would say, a yuri that shines mostly by virtue of sheer volume of yuri content within. You may read it and think, huh, I’ve seen some of these couples before. The hard-working top student who can’t beat the air-headed genius? That’s just Comprehensive Tovarisch again! (I don’t mean that as a knock against either series, as I love both AnoKiss and Tovarisch dearly.) But the overlapping and various stories of AnoKiss allows it to shine brighter than it may otherwise have. The many forms of love (including a warm, positive look at polyamory) combined with Canno’s expressive art style makes for a great long-term read.
AnoKiss has an official release from Yen Press so if you wind up enjoying the series, consider buying it to support good yuri!

"So Do You Want To Go Out, Or?" is really good if you haven't read it yet
I have! I haven’t put it on this blog because it’s a bit outside the scope of what I try to put on this blog, but I did really enjoy it. Its concept is a bit depressing once I realized it though, lol. idk how it didn’t click for so long that it’s a story about two girls getting together just because theyre the only lesbians the other knows, and their compatibility is uh. Not Great. which makes it a bit of a sad read.

An update: I made a tag on this blog for people who want to read yuri featuring adult characters, since something I hear a lot from people is that there’s too much yuri about schoolgirls (which I agree, especially knowing the reason why they trend that way.) Hopefully, this tag will make it easier for people who want a break from that to find works that will suit their tastes.
(Obviously, there are works like Bloom Into You or Forever Girls that end with the characters as adults, but as they still mostly take place during the school girl age, I’ve still left them out. I figure people are primarily looking for works that are mostly during the adult time frame.)
(I also won’t be including works where one character is an adult and the other isn’t, for many, many reasons.)

Come Rain Or Shine by Arata Iri
Tumblr media
[dynasty-scans link]
This is just a time for pure lesbian fluff, I think So here’s Come Rain Or Shine, about a student council member and a miko and the misadventures of basically everything around them. We’ve all earned it, I think.
Come Rain Or Shine is actually a reboot of Arata Iri’s earlier Todo no Tsumari no Uchouten, which I guess she rebooted because it wasn’t gay enough. I mean, it was pretty gay, but Come Rain Or Shine has gotten much, much gayer in a short amount of time. A perfect upgrade.

I Favor the Villainess by Inori
Tumblr media
[jingle-translations link]
Mixing things up a bit, this time I’ve got a yuri light novel recommendation! I Favor the Villainess is the only valid isekai series. About a woman who is reborn in the world of her favorite otome game, and immediately sets about pursuing her favorite character (the noble villainess, Claire Francois), it’s a story that starts very flippantly and then somehow becomes something extremely serious. I was surprised by how much I loved this series. It even attempts to tackle trans issues, albeit to the expected degree of sensitivity of Japanese media.
I can’t get too into what I love about this series without spoiling it (comrade Claire) but I truly have a big place in my heart for I Favor the Villainess, the series that drew me in with a silly flirty lesbian, then hit way too close to home with WHY she is the way she is. It’s a good read, as long as you can look past a few... unsavory elements.
