A strange beginning...
As she began to regain consciousness she quickly became more alert by the second, feeling such a strange sensation as if her entire body was swaying. As her eyes fluttered open she realized that she couldn’t move, her arms were bound behind her by rope, her ankles tied together. She looked around wide eyed in a panic, she was in a darkened room. There were many others here, people… creatures, strange things she’d never seen as she tried to collect her thoughts she felt her body being thrown across the floor by an unseen force.
While she didn’t know it yet she was on a boat and there was a really bad storm, tossing the boat back and forth on the waves. She jolted into some barrels with a thud, screaming out with the others in the strange room who had also been thrown. In her panic she began to realize her hands began to feel really hot, there was fire, a little spark of fire burning through the ropes that bound her as she quickly began to struggle to get free. She pulled her hands out, pausing a moment with confusion before she quickly tugged at the ropes around her ankles trying to free herself.
As she finally pulled the ropes off and stood up and looked around, everyone was panicking just as she was, some others had also managed to get free, she noticed a strange fish like creature in a cage nearby her, she rushed over to it and pulled the lock open and as she began to think about what the hell she was going to do and what was even going on, the boat was tossed again roughly on the waves just as a loud shattering sound could be heard. Her body was thrown backwards and as she fell down onto her back her head slammed into a crate and everything went black…
She wasn’t sure how long they had been floating there as she slowly opened her eyes again, wincing as her head still hurt a bit. Her body was shivering, soaking wet and freezing as she lifted herself up a little to get her bearings. They were floating on a large piece of the boat that had broken off, her, a few others and that strange fish like creature she had freed from the cage right before she got knocked out.
As she began to stir, the little grey man like fish noticed her and stood up walking over to her. “Don’t try to move, no no.” he said quickly as he reached out to try to stop her. She blinked with confusion at him though she didn’t say a word in response. “Fished you out of the water we did, didn’t get to save many…” he said as he motioned around. There were only 4 of them on that piece of the boat, a few other pieces of it could be seen floating around them but no other survivors were in sight.
She remained silent as she thought to herself, she was confused. Why was she in this form? How was she in this form? How did she even get to where she is now? What happened exactly? As strange visions, almost memory like began to flow through her mind. She could see her home, it was on fire.. Someone had set it on fire. As the memories kept flashing through her mind she shook her head to herself, did she…. eat a human? No.. she couldn’t be remembering that right, how could she of eaten a person but she too had… become a human? As she kept trying to remember just what happened she was pulled from her thoughts as the little creature was speaking to her again.
The strange fish man like thing she had come to learn was called a namazu, his name was Gyomaru and they had been taken by a group of slave traders. She wasn’t sure she agreed on the fact that they were lucky a storm destroyed the boat as they floated in what felt like an endless sea on nothing but a thick chunk of wood but he seemed relieved by it at least. “You don’t talk very much do you ..?” he finally said. “Can you talk? Do you have a name?” he asked her, she tilted her head as she listened to him and thought about it. “Sukihime Kitty, am good cat.” she finally said in response.
He seemed surprised that she had finally spoken, she too seemed surprised by it. She had never heard her own voice in this form and he had actually understood her too. The Namazu seemed happy that she had finally spoke to him and began babbling on about something else, she didn’t quite understand half the things that he was saying but somehow his babble helped her feel at ease despite their current predicament.
As she listened to him she began to notice something in the distance, she wasn’t sure what it was but she raised her hand slowly and pointed it catching his attention he turned and looked in the direction she pointed. “A boat! It’s a boat!” he said with excitement as he jumped and made the wood sway a bit more than it already was. She wasn’t sure what a boat was but wondered if it was like what they were on before, he seemed really happy over this “boat thing” so it must be a good thing. Were they actually going to be ok?
