I'm gonna say it.
It's unhinged to assume that someone's taste in fiction equates to what they believe is moral or good, or is something they want to see or experience in real life.
That is a bonkers assumption to make.
I'm tired of humoring people with long arguments about it when the simple fact is it is a totally fucking absurd reach to accuse someone who enjoys something in fiction of being in favor of it in real life.
I'm tired of pretending like this is a legitimate position to hold-- that they should be afraid of fiction's dire influence on a reader's moral decay or that it's a sign of what the author secretly wants for realsies in real life.

This is a weird story but....
Back in 2017 my husband and I ran a club night called Sequin in Paris (okay more like a DJ night in a bar) at Club Barbés, which was (is?) above Brasserie Barbès in the infamous (and aptly named) Barbès–Rochechouart neighbourhood.
How did we manage to do that for at least eight or so months? Well, I used to work in a Scottish pub when we lived in Paris. And this guy would come in in the afternoons with his cute as heck little daughter, and bop along to the playlists I used to have on which was full of 80's post-disco/french boogie etc. Turned out, he used to run nights at Carmen (RIP) and was currently helping to manage Brasserie Barbès. And my husband was DJing a whole heap at the time, so he offered us this night slot thinking people would come up and dance to our (what we thought) cool music.
Guys, those nights were so empty. But we had free drinks, and I couldn't actually mix to save my life so I used to just hang out while Max did all the work (besides, I illustrated all the promotional artwork...I did my part right lol).
The night we did the french boogie special (the pink suit guy poster up there), we invited the guy behind one of France's biggest one-hit wonders of the 80's because somehow he was kicking around on facebook still. And HE CAME. And I was slinging back the white wines, as I tended to embarassingly do at the time, and he was hanging out by the DJ booth with us. And I told him that he could've been the next Michael Jackson. Then he gave me two of his original singles and signed them. I fear I might've lost them in the giant move we made back to Australia but here he was in all his glory:

Anyway, just a weird chapter in my life that I look back on and go, what?? I also have zero photos because we were so embarassed that nobody came to the nights, but here's the old facebook page. Edit: I FOUND THE SIGNED SINGLES

#oh OP you have no idea about the nostalgia brought on by seeing these artworks!#and what a cool story too! seems like really nice memories to have. and so glad you managed to find the singles after all <3#illust

Listen. I was going through some of your old posts and Hatsune Mika Häkkinen?
Yo if someone's made art of that, I'd love to see it. [Don't know if you do art].
hehehe, one of my (many) bangers, ngl
I actually don't know if anyone's made art of it though... I mean, the internet has everything, so maybe we'll come across it one day.
