been a lot of critical role discourse lately and I am a mature individual who has made my peace with that I have largely moved on from Critical Role as something I actively engage with outside of occasionally dropping in for things related to C2, but I would just like to say if the Mighty Nein Animated show changes a single line in the Fjorester Tower Kiss Scene, I'm warning you now that I'm going to throw the biggest fucking temper tantrum in all of fandom history.

My favorite thing about seeing YouTubers that have never seen cr reacting to the mighty nein animated sneak peek, is when they actually stop analyze the title card at the end and slowly start to become more and more flabbergasted the longer they look at it. Everytime I hear “WHY AM I ONLY SEEING DICKS?!?!” I’m alway like:

a commission for @mightaswellblowup, who requested a full-render front view of Essek's outfit from this shadowbren drawing of mine, as a two-year anniversary gift and cosplay reference for @birdverbatimcosplay!
“Through a thousand lifetimes it always comes back to you and I.”
happy anniversary, and thank you for commissioning me, Tuskteefs!

i honestly think it's interesting that some people are willing to give more leeway to ludinus for all the terrible things he's done than, say, essek, despite the rather incredible gap in severity between their actions, and it kind of just occurred to me that this may be because people view essek's actions as solely self-serving (which, they were), but think everything ludinus did can be justified by what they view as his "unselfish" desire to free mortals from the yoke of divinity. this is interesting to me both because it places "selfishness" at the zenith of true evil, and because it erases every bit of what ludinus did that was selfish. because it was. he tells himself it wasn't, that he was doing this for everyone else, but he murdered people so that he could live a longer life. is this unselfish? he fostered tyrannical governments on not one but two planets and influenced laws to imprison people for benign worship. is this unselfish? he destroyed and entire city in pursuit of predathos. is this unselfish? he would alter the fabric of the world as vengeance for his personal losses. is this unselfish? his entire motivation is rooted in selfishness and, unlike essek, he proves incapable of taking a step back and reassessing either his motivations or the collateral damage he's caused. it seems sometimes like the only things those people listened to are that ludinus called his pursuits "noble," and essek openly admitted that his were not

one thing I like about essek's story is that he. stops.
he removes himself from his station, he leaves all his resources behind, he entwines his life with people who will, going forward and in no uncertain terms, keep him accountable, he works alongside an organization whose intent is to keep those like him out of power
he looked around once the blinders came off and not only thought 'this isn't how i thought my life would go' but also, later, 'this isn't what i want my life to be'
he did bad, and then felt bad, and then, though stumbling like anyone learning something crucial and new, he stopped, he changed, and he grew
