It wasn't ideal to be walking on the abandoned streets at 11:30 at night but here you were walking as fast as you could to the field you and Oikawa used to go to. You had to cut the call short with Bokuto and being the sweetheart he was he understood your need to see Oikawa.

The coldness of the night nipped at your skin, cursing at yourself for being in a hurry and not changing out of your thin leggings into your fluffy panda pants.

Nearly at the field, you agreed to see Oikawa you slowed down your pace. Making your way up the hill you see Oikawa’s figure, the moonlight shining onto him. He turns around when he hears your feet stride through the long grass. Oikawa weakly smiled at you, earning one back.

When you finally reach the top, you stand next to Oikawa looking at the view in front of you, the stars shining brightly and reflecting onto the water below you. The moonlight coats your faces. You sit down on the damp grass, Oikawa following after. The silence between you two was thick, no one willing to break it anytime soon. So you sat in the silence for a little bit, just getting used to being so close to each other again. Yes, you saw each other at practice every day but you didn't speak. You respecting Oikawa’s wishes and him making his way out of the gym as soon as possible when practice finished.

The sound of your breaths was the only thing heard apart from the cold wind brushing through the grass. You glance at Oikawa to see him picking at the ground, you sigh and brought your knees up to your chest, placing your arms around them and leaning down, still staring at Oikawa. You finally decided to break the silence.

“Uh so, why did you want to meet up?” you shuffle awkwardly as you make eye contact with Oikawa’s brown eyes, they almost looked black in the night. He shrugs slightly, copying the position you were in, staring straight back at you. You feel you cheeks burn out of embarrassment and how confronting this whole situation is.

“I just...ugh” Oikawa groans, huffing out and avoiding eye contact with you. You sigh slightly and reach out for his hand, once he grabs it hesitantly you squeeze it softly, as a sign of reassurance, you smile letting go of his hand and putting it back onto your knee.

“I just missed you I guess, this whole thing has been tiring” you nod slightly, agreeing with him, you hum, edging for Oikawa to continue speaking.

“I didn't want our friendship to be affected but it has. All I wanted was my feelings to be reciprocated and they weren’t and I got so frustrated because the girl that I loved didn’t love me back” Oikawa glances at you to see you looking into the distance, he moved closer to you, wrapping his arm around you and bringing you into his side for a bit of warmth. He continued talking.

“I thought by distancing myself from you was going to make me feel better but it didn’t, it made me feel even worse than I already did. I don’t want my feelings to get in the way of our friendship” You shake your head and lean your head on Oikawa’s shoulder, humming softly to signal you were still listening.

“Of us”

You widen your eyes and look up at Oikawa who was already looking down at you with a faint smile, you smile back, looking down again at the water at the bottom of the hill.

“You mean so much to me but I’m going to be honest, I still have feelings for you and I know you’re dating Bokuto and I don’t expect anything to change, your friendship is too precious to me, I don’t want to lose you”

Once Oikawa had finished speaking you turn around and tackle him into the grass with a bone-crushing hug, wrapping your arms around his neck and his arms around your waist. You couldn’t be happier, having your best friend back was all you could ask for. Things might still be weird but you know the two of you were going to work things out, no matter how hard or long it will be.

“Dummy, I missed you”

“I missed you too.”
