loss had eaten away thoroughly at their friendship — leaving nothing but the bare bones of its skeleton. and the northerner would have left it at that, were it not for that part of them that they'd believed empty. the part that would care for the lady lannister 'till they parted with their final breath. guards must have recognized the once friend, and though at first apprehensive, unwilling to break their oath to their lady, it seemed that their wish to only check that alicent was well and safe melted their resolve a little bit. " it's odara karstark, my lady. "

her heart jumped when someone knocked on the door. the orders to the guards had been clear, no one who didn't bear lannister name were to be admitted, yet one heart must bleed for chance to be offered. pitiful. ❝ identify yourself or the doors shall remain shut, ❞ alicent called as hand also reached for the nearest heavy object, knowing it entirely possible that a noble wasn't who stood outside. though if guards had fallen to the common mob were they really a loss?

the call to hunt thrummed loudly within liege's head, pressure building until theon's last blow: the gods appeased, blood dripping on the tip of arrows satisfying their thirst, whilst the lives taken by cousin's blade filled the pit of hunger. but, odara felt dirty. moss greens refusing to look pass winter lord, and towards the bodies with proof of their own murders embed into flesh. animals, humans. both were different, both served different purposes. they'd never taken a human life, and their blood would stain fingers for days to come. specters would haunt the hallways of karhold until they sat next to their gods. " then we move on to the next. but, give me a moment, my lord. "

with a final swing of his sword, the attack crumpled to the ground, never to move again similar to many who dared stand in northerner's path. luna's growls all that prevented silence from descending. master and beast accustomed to hunting in the shadows, favoring it even - another weapon at their disposal after learning how darkness could be utilized. taking a deep breath, theon glanced over his shoulder at his companion. ❝ that's the last of them in this hall. ❞ more battles awaited. thrill of the fight called to him but bloodlust wasn't the strongest pull when northerners still remained missing.

staring down the tip of a sword again. margaery found the new found familiarity blooming in the pit of her stomach humorous, wide eyes once expressive turning cold as steel. dragoness was quiet for a moment, willing the tremors that danced from the tip of her fingers to the ends of her hair to stop. " do you think, if such were an option for me, that i would be wandering these halls, looking worse for wear than the smallfolks? " voice grew angrier as each word passed, spitting out venom by the last accent. calyx held no fault in predicament, and had circumstances been different, middle castamere would have been laughing at cousin. but injury, and proper lack of appropriate clothing accompanied by life fearing anxiety made her less than cooperative.

footsteps behind him made calyx spin around with his blade drawn. bloodstained steel paused only inches away from the fool who'd thought to sneak up on him, ready to strike, but recognition dawned before instinct could command the final blow. ❝ have you lost all sense? ❞ dragon hissed at his cousin before lowering his weapon. ❝ what are you even doing out here? you should be somewhere under guard. ❞

hands held candleholder like a saving grace. utilizing whatever small knowledge father and brothers had parted with her about swordsmanship, mostly getting the form correct: do not ask she to wield a true sword, however. a tigress had claws, but knew not how to use them correctly. the door opened and in fear, had mind been a moment slower, lord tyrell would have surely gotten decor thrown at his head. " by r'hllor — my lord, i could have hurt you ... is there truly such a place? "

they'd never imagined that the halls they had grown up with would be infiltrated. reality couldn't be ignored when one wrong turn could send him face to face with a sword, but the rose didn't seek shelter. people were still uncounted for - families still separated. slowly, trystane opened a door and cautiously stepped inside, finding only the martell there. ❝ come with me, princess. you should get someplace safer. ❞

she'd heard the mocking taunt through the deafening thunder — a mad man followed muddied foot prints, singing of a noble corpse feeding the hungry roses. rain drops could not hide the tears staining rose cheeks, the storm's anger only drowning the sound of shaking body as the ice cold droplets soaked through flesh. princess had prayed to r'hllor, to its warm benevolence, that the hunter would lose tracks and forget about the doe hiding amongst nature. move on, find the chase boring, lose interest in prey that did not fight back. but he moved deeper into the maze, after her. closer, closer, the singing grew louder. until it stopped. princess tightly shut her eyes, palm pressing against her lips to suppress pitiful sobs. prayers sent to whichever deity looked favorably upon the dornish.
she felt him pounce. heard him hold pride as he announced the end of this hunt, her head his prize. she'd nearly screamed, loud apologies to family and loved ones: but the touch of a blade never came, the weight of assailant never pushed down upon her. and instead of teeth aching voice that would haunt even the most peaceful of her nightmares, spoke a man she knew. a voice that belonged to trusted essosi entourage. " ... i-is that you, my prince? "
⋆ @sunlaid, isra martell ⋆ the gardens
there was only one thing stopping the prince from being overcome with a terrible sense of deja vu : the rain. a stark contrast to the hellfire that surrounded king's landing three moons ago. once he left the keep's walls, he was immediately doused in the storm's rage. following a single attacker into the garden was made harder with the squelch of the mud, but the claps of thunder overhead drowned out the sound enough for him to remain unnoticed. they were unsure what drew the member of the smallfolk out and into the maze by themself, but lone prey meant easy prey. essosi was more akin to coyote than man as he stalked through the tall rows of flora, sure to keep a few paces back with dagger clutched tightly in hand. he's glad he did once he realizes the attacker must have been tracking someone else this whole time. it happened quickly. prey saw itself as predator and thrust themself into the hedges, clearly finding their target. their kill would not come though. as they moved, he moved. coyote tangled prey's hair into a fist while bejeweled dagger made easy work. they dropped like a downed fox. in an effort to not startle whoever was burrowed away even more, they called out, " it's okay. he's down. "

a mouse stood opposite of the hound. brutish gaze steady on face, and violence bred lord had seen far lower strategies from worst people. a child brandished in front of monster as bait, observers watching from corners to see whether he'd bite, or if she'd be swallowed first. but she was lucky. he was not new to honeycomb traps, and her accoutrement was outrageously noble: his heart pitied the poor lady, enough to allow fight turn to rest. a hand beckoned her closer. " come, my lady. you may take shelter with my wife within our chambers, should you wish. unless you would like to be accompanied to your own? "
who could one turn to for protection when the short path to brother's chambers were blocked with carnage? a blood splattered yet unharmed lady florent had sped through the violence, bare feet pattering on the cold floor during the short sprint to the nearby hall that she knew would hold help--knew would hold someone who could protect her. rounding the corner, she had rarely felt such relief upon seeing the form of another. her shaky hands lifted in surrender, one with a white-knuckle grip upon the only form of weapon she had--her cherished hair brush. “p-please--my lord. i know not where to go.” but it seemed, by the amount of bodies laid before her, this hallway was a temporary safe place.

there on his lips, short lived and ill fitting, was etched a wolfish grin. words were proof to him, no matter how much she may scrub at her skin, bleed or wear expensive gowns, no matter how much she may speak it so, she could never rid herself of the islands nestled in every thread of her skin. the sea was deeply incrusted in every iron born, and made each and everyone wild. untamed, and unpredictable. " no. " he replied curtly, loosening tension from knuckles around hammer, and lowered his voice. " you will stay as you are now in my memories, gysella. clear as day, vivid, and as dangerous as the day you left the ten towers. "
"You give him far too much credit, in that regard. I never was one to listen to orders." She smiles, frame relaxed despite the circumstance. In the midst of the storm she can shed all pretence, all previously held grudges, and aim rage towards suitable target. In the light of day she had duty to uphold once again, would shed the saltwater their shared and don lion pelt once more, But that was hours away, and there was enemy under their roof. "Come morning light, this will all be a nightmare. You never saw me at all, Darion, I am a figment of your imagination."

strangers were once given indifference, iron born only feigning political kindness to outsiders for appearances sake: now, he looked upon the other with open hostility. red fists clenched at his side, assessing whether to entertain conversation, or hit first. he stands protective of the hallway, blocking passage to family should new face turn out to be hostile towards them. " none. " voice is stern, sharp as finger pointing at the small folk lying dead at their feet. that was the last of them, that he'd counted. " you are not iron born, and i don't recognize you. what business do you have in these halls? "
they live to the name bestowed upon them: the horned howl announces arrival with a roar, sword swinging over and over. and when sword is useless, they use every inch of body. elbow to groin, foot crushing a hand reaching for weapon, slamming forehead into face and reveling in bones cracking. shyra leaves a trail of bodies as they rush the final attacker of the group. they kick with enough force for the man to fall on his back, and he barely caught his breath before shyra shoved sword-point into neck. eyes snap up. chest rise and falls with heaving breaths. with hand still wrapped around sword hilt, they straighten, gaze never leaving the person opposite. "how many are left on this floor?" would answer determine friend or foe? grip tightened on sword, wary.

shadow huffed, actions once taken to ensure that she wolf remained safe second nature to the liege that shared a bloodline. " i would have much preferred dancing together over this. " words recall the ball that had taken place, it felt, not too long ago. war always followed peace, but odara had hoped that for once, it would not find them. futile, the wishes of a naive child. " look at their clothes. were those not the same ones that the smallfolk wore when they entered high garden? "
“ look at us , ” wolf begins , strained smile upon features as another is felled , “ fighting together as a happy family . is it not so grand that we came to the south ? ” derision drips from each word but the pause in motion allows her to catch her breath — and brings attention to the eerie quietness now settled . doubtful that everything has settled and certain there is soon to be next wave of attacks once their positions are found but now begs the question ; what had happened ? “ any guesses as to who has attacked ? ”

affection between this pair were far and few between, middle daughter choosing to fight eldest son at every chance she could: but that did not stop dragoness from viewing brother as a harbor, a shield and refuge from pitchforks pointed at her. a voice of reason that soaked, coating the bones and flesh that made her — haze of fright trembled, and splintered at the dulcet call of name. lavenders once sharp as blades, softened so much so, that it could nearly make her appear like another. another sister, far kinder, far more gentle than margaery. " aerion? " unsteady was her call, and so was following movements. glass clattered onto the marble, pain in her leg set aside as body did all it could to find its safety in her brother's reach. arms circled aerion, all desperation as she clung to him like a cub to its parent. you're safe. " you found me- thank you so much for finding me. "
" margaery , " aerion’s voice boomed , nearly drowned out by the thunder roaring in the distance . relief washed over him as he confirmed it was indeed his sister before him . but that relief shattered the moment he saw her injuries , knowing he hadn’t been there to protect her . blasted peasants , he cursed under his breath . "margaery , " he called again , his voice gentler this time , hoping she’d recognize him through the fear clouding her gaze . " it’s me , marge , it’s me . put the glass down . you’re safe , " he coaxed , reaching out his hand in a gesture of reassurance .

targaryen of castamere was not raised on a battlefield. soft fingers and palms were proof of different lessons, where one used words instead of actions to scar. " you know what else is stupid? this whole cursed situation! " frustration however blurs, and the additional fear for life that lingered just a moment ago rendered margaery loosely tongued. amongst all nobles within high garden, never would she have expected viserra to become her bloodied savior. hand touched the left wall that hid her, putting weight on it rather than injured leg and took a tentative step away from hiding spot. " thought you would be barricaded behind locked doors and guards. "
the blade that viserra kept always on their person dripped with the blood of the smallfolk that attacked with a single thought to enjoy the fight that wasn't on the training grounds or members of the guard that went easy on them despite the wounds that it granted them. a voice shouting captured their attention just as a swing of her sword captured more blood as the assailant fell to their knees. their violet gaze studied their cousin for a briefly. " shouting when you have only that to defend yourself is stupid. " like an unfeeling guardian angel they wiped their blade on the clothes of the attacker and with a kick of their foot, put distance between them and margaery. " come on. "

nor your enemy, to cousin's definition. court was flooded with people, hidden behind their backs a knife ready to be driven into hers. but trembling lavenders flitter off of the heir to claw isle, to the moving shadows that would haunt these walls long after the rain stopped. glass is discarded to the side in that instant, having no choice but to believe him in this moments and held her hand out as an olive branch. " gods, help me get up. "
“ not a coward, margaery. nor your enemy. ” voice is sharp, any pretense of formality is dropped - they've no time for it, not now. from a fallen guard hands the sword at his side, coated in blood from the owner's own flesh. it would be fate that he'd stumble across a targaryen brat in all the carnage. “ but this isn't a good place to stop, there's more coming from behind. ”

it takes a certain type of people, different in their own upbringings and hardened by the violence of their environment, to enjoy being the cause of spilled blood. dare the goodbrother say, he does not have a sick, twisted enjoyment of it — rather, it is the god like control over life that he treasures. to hold the choice to save or end a life, right in the palm of his hand. that, is what brings forth the grin upon his lips. the cruelty was all but an added bonus. " keeping them far away from what is mine, of course i am. " he had long dreaded the comfort of the south, all talks of politics and good manners. an ill disguise to hide schemes and traitorous thoughts. now, the pent up rage all spilled out like island wine: red and flowing like a never ending river. captive was tossed like a ragdoll at the feet of old connection, the look shot empty of whatever empathy many desired him to have. " ... and i got a new dog. "
ears perked at the nearing sound of another crying out within the castle walls. bare , crimson slicked , soles of feet pausing as she listened closer , trying to determine with sense of hearing alone if it were friend or foe bleating in agony. though she needn't wonder long as someone turned the corner of the hall she stood in. dagger flicked within ones grasp , catching the tip of the bloodied blade between forefinger and thumb in preparation of sending the weapon at whomever dared to approach. the only thing that stopped elowyn from releasing her dagger and letting it find its mark in the hulking figure, was the thunderous voice that accompanied it , the familiarity of it skittering over her very bones and finding itself a home within the salt and sea that coursed through her veins. scarlet tainted being prowling in the night grinned wider , no less feral as she continued her haunt , closing the distance between iron born. “ oh , much. ” a glimmer of delight shining within oceanic hues as she took darion in , and then the captor he dragged along with him. “ and you ? lie to me if you must , i don't want to have to be disappointed by you. prey hid, diana hunted. moss green eyes are home in the shadows, accustomed to finding the hidden amongst millions of spotted. they move alike feline kin, quiet, soft in the corridors of the castle that accommodates them far kinder than the forest ground. no dry leaves, no broken branches. high garden is a ground for new hunters, and in it, appeared artemis. that is how they spot the lady dayne, a hare hidden in the foliage. they don't mean to startle her, meant to touch softly enough to gain attention. her reaction shatters girlish heart. broken pleas, strength used not to pull but push: odara's touch flees, hands brought up in surrender, powerlessly held at the tip of her teary blade. " i'm s- " cut short is their apology, in its stead, a strangled noise of surprise. warmth blooms under touch of sun, as every inch of skin touching hers tingled. " my lady. " formal title, but tone is a chant to idol, follower to a god. they called alike their prayers to their old gods, and they are just as happy to view them safe and- " who did this to you? "

@sunlaid * odara karstark
[...] With her right arm no longer as nimble as the rest of her, she relied on staying in the shadows and spaces they wouldn't think to look; away from prying eyes and bloodthirsty spears. Gasp pulled from her when frame bumps into theirs, instinct prompting push to frame. " No, no, no — " Adrenaline and fear blur, and tears, unbidden, are palmed away until realization settles in. Her gratitude blooms and with both hands framing the liege's face, a breathless admission deflates all tension as she wraps her arms around their shoulders. " Odara. "

a sight to behold, undoubtedly. once untouchable, dragons revered as gods: now, their kin turned to a girl wounded. this one still savage, lavender poisonous and daring. even in its dying hour, pride refused to let go of she. but when she bothers to think clearly, to see past the ego blinding her eyes, she is calmed at the presence of eldest sister. carved from same scale, amongst the specters and foes that surround high society's jewel, rhaenys was few and far between, the owner of her complete trust. the glass slips from fingers, cutting, nicking flesh, but arms wrap tightly around sister. shivers crush her, weight heavy, but it is all she allows, the sob at the tip of her tongue remaining quiet. she came back for her. " i — haven't been paying attention. is he not with you? " shield was indeed not present, she processed, and calamity continued to fall around them. the sting in her leg was continuous, a vile thing, and though pressure turned mild pain into a raging fire, stubbornness and the need to survive numbed it for now. " walk, run, or crawl. it looks worst than it is. "
cowardice does not become a dragon , yet with the beasts that make them gods so far , far , away , threat of mortality turns the fire within their veins to ice . metallic tang of blood clings to the air with nauseating pungency , foot falls slipping here and there as blood pools around the dead and the dying . the stranger is with them that evening , have they come for her too ? blade left with daughter , another was plucked with trembling hands from one of the unfortunates , its weight uncomfortable with lithe frame . fear strikes deep , as weapon slices through air before her , blade threatening to rise before voice is placed but as realisation dawns and relief washes over her , steel clatters at her blood - stained slippered feet . sister is brought into crushing embrace , ❛ i thought you lost – baris , have you seen him ? i sent him to find you . ❜ brought to arms distance , violet hues sweep over , question to remain unanswered as wound is noticed . fury bloomed where had fear threatened to take root , fire raged its protective and destructive inferno once more , own hand replaces sister's over the cut , firm pressure applied – nearby screams alert to danger . ❛ can you walk ? ❜

he acts before she speaks. the safety of his family is long ingrained in muscle memory, a golden thread woven through flesh and muscles: war cry shook foundation, and paris threw hammer before sight could process. the drowned god made him a soldier, one that bled and breathed violence — weapon found target, embed into skull that had yet to spot wife a second time. blasphemous eyes had gazed one too many times on the lady of hammerhorn. friend had not been any more lucky. a flicker of concern, a look towards the man that no longer lived. twice a mistake, darion grabbing closest candlestick and piercing it through left eye. an ocean of blood and death welcoming two more additions.
helen was not forgotten. body twisted, and where a hound once lived in darion, now stood a lovesick puppy. only for beloved safiye, and though hands are marred with death, blood and callouses, they are gentle as they cradle her cheeks. " oh, my sea. did they hurt you? tell me, and i shall meet the drowned gods and kill them again. "
barefooted upon cool stone , femme devil keeps to the shadows –– back pressed to wall , lest predators pounce from behind . in a court brimming with dragons , lions , kraken's and bears , the thought that her own could turn foe never once crossed her mind . had she truly become so lofty to deny smallfolk the intelligence to orchestrate and execute such a plan ? torches extinguished , flashes of lightning illuminated scurrying silhouettes , thunder failing to muffle the screams and clashes of steel . the stairs before her remained the final obstacle , family just beyond the blood - stained stone . little remained untouched by crimson , including the rolling pin within vice grip ; the closest instrument to hand within the great kitchens , and no less lethal than sharper counterparts. skirts already torn for ease of stride , femme darted for salvation two steps taken at a time , maniacal laughter dogging each step . fuck – she had missed them . a glance is cast back only at the top , two trailed closely behind ; trusted rolling pin would not suffice without the element of surprise . feet carry her forward , a silent prayer to not forget a turn cast to any god that would listen . she suspects them too busy that night , yet memory does not fail , familiarity growing with every second . rounding a corner , she slips , falling heavily upon hip , legs , hands and dress stain crimson – blood not of her own . husband is recognised first by shout , then by sight , the bodies at his feet barely register at all . ❛ behind me ! ❜ assailants fair better in the pool of blood than she , weapon gone from hand in the fall she scrambles for something new .
