Drabble:
The blunt smacks of bandaged fists hitting padded dummies echoed in the courtyard of the soon-to-be-built Thalassian Monastery.
"You are intense today, Sun." His mentor stated.
How could he not be? He had fallen for a noble who swept him off his feet, only to have his heart broken. His previous teachings provided no mantra for heartbreak of this nature. His only recourse was to channel that energy into something productive.
He paused, staring ahead at the dents he'd left in the padding of the dummy. "My thoughts are clouded lately, Master. I know the Sha are no threat here, but I still feel the urge to tame my emotions in some manner and want to channel that into my training."
The other elf hummed in thought. Sun sighed, and began to center himself, focusing on his breath. Meanwhile, basking in the sun atop an awning, Petrichor, Sun's cloud serpent pet, cooed in concern. Every sound of frustration that came from Sun elicited a worried noise in the serpent. It wasn't often that its master was in a mood such as this.
Whether Sun wanted it to be true or not, he could not fight off the negative emotions. He knew this. He needed to do more to process them.
"Sun'lon. Come sit." Without breaking his stride, the Elf Master pulled out a chair from an outdoor table and then headed inside. Sun took the seat, looking down at his hands and the fraying bandages that were there for protection. Petrichor flitted from its roost and draped across the monk's neck with a curious murp.
He was left in silence for the moment, slowing unwrapping his sore knuckles as those golden eyes began to mist over.
He wanted so badly to be as wise and stoic as his many teachers. There was more to monkhood than strength and agility and combat prowess. It was an entire lifestyle, all interconnected, and this too was a trial he'd need to learn to navigate.
But damn it sucked.
He hadn't even noticed the tears falling until he saw them hit the bandages. He let them flow, hitting the finger where a ring had once been. Grief had many forms, some easier to cope with than others. But one from betrayal and deceit? This one was much more difficult.
Eventually, his Master returned, setting down a tray of tea and food. "I think that's enough today. Why don't we enjoy the weather for a bit?"
Sun didn't look up for a minute. Testing to see if chi had the ability to reverse the flow of tears so his mentor did not see them. He took a big breath, but no amount of chi work could change the fact that his eyes were puffy and swollen.
"You won't find any judgement here. If you need to cry, then do not stop yourself. You'll feel better for it. But I haven't seen you eat all day, so do try to do so. Your punches lacked the oomph they usually have." He teased. Sun chuckled weakly and pulled the tray closer, splitting off a sandwich so he could hold a bite out for Petrichor. The serpent took the bite, its body wiggling in delight at the treat.
"Is this your first heartbreak?"
"Of this nature? Yes, Master." Sun replied as he slowly ate.
"I apologize that I have no true, concrete teaching on how to heal yourself, my student. I can only tell you that you are much stronger than you think, and you have plenty of those who care for you to hold you up. When you had first arrived at our doorstep, you had this light in your eye that did not come from the cleansing of the Sunwell. It's something much deeper and personal to you. Even now it's there, behind those tears and darkened thoughts. You are no less a monk for this, either. We are not immune to any of life's trials. They are just presented to help us strengthen ourselves so that we may then help others find their way."
The more words that poured from his master's lips, the more Sun felt himself getting choked up.
"Do not let this dim you. You have more worth than a betrayal. Beating at that dummy may help give you an outlet, but do not forget to afford yourself the kindness we are meant to give others." The man stands, walking past to squeeze Sun's shoulder.
"We and many others are here for you." Petrichor seemed to echo this sentiment, rubbing its face against Sun's.
"Thank you, Master. I will take this to heart."
The man smiled, "Good. I am going to order some pastries from a local bakery, then invite others to indulge. Some company should help, if you want it."
And with that, the man disappeared further into the monastery. Sun took another breath, feeling his chest loosen a bit.
"I got this." He smiled, scratching under Petrichor's chin.

Truthful Thursday: What would you say is the one thing most people assume wrong about you?
"The biggest misconception about me is that given that I'm a monk, I'm some chaste, passive, mild-mannered elf. I'm passionate about my beliefs, sure, but I do not let them stop me from enjoying life and it certainly doesn't exempt me from feeling."

[Truthful Thursday]: What set him on his current path?
"Ah, well. I lived a humble life in Eversong, and wanted more. That answer came to me when I met a traveler, and the way he carried himself inspired me to go on a journey of my own.
I met my master while exploring Pandaria, and thus began my monkhood. And it's my hope to inspire a similar journey in others with how I act."

DWC 2: Embrace
Tumblr media
When Sun ran off to Pandaria to train, he didn't fully grasp the path he was starting down. He wouldn't make any different decisions, but a decade in a temple was certainly a struggle.
A decade was spent with very little socialization. The only person he saw regularly was his Master. There was the odd temporary student, or trip into town for supplies, but between chores, training, meditation, studies, practicing, art... there wasn't much choice. He, at least felt fortunate that he had so much to keep him occupied and focused on his training.
It did take some time to reintegrate into society. Even traveling through Pandaria, the locals and tourists did not react to his cheerful, spunky personality as he had expected. Beneath that smile, a doubt began to brew. He was beginning to worry about how he'd be treated upon his return to Silvermoon. No, Sun'lon. Do not let yourself become a breeding ground for such parasitic thoughts.
The next several months, Sun would travel on his pilgrimage to Silvermoon, stopping in various cities and countries. Each encounter, he led with a practiced self-confidence. He would not allow anyone to dull his disposition. Something stopped him in the portal room of Orgrimmar. He saw the gates of his city through the arcane shimmer, and his heart stopped for a moment. He had not seen the streets of his home in so long. He was a blood elf, but did not feel like one anymore. Or, more accurately, he felt like more than that. Would his people welcome him back?
He no longer needed to worry about his doubt manifesting into some horrible creature like it would in Pandaria, but that did not stop it from stifling his ability to truly connect with those he'd come to me. That is until one day, an elf approached him during one of his fan dances. They were probably some of the few moments in which Sun's true self shone. That was likely why this man greeted him, that day. Keep your cool. You got this.
The two talked for some time, hitting it off well. As if they were two longtime friends reconnecting. They parted after some drinks. Then he would find himself conversing with more people. Finding a monastery in Silvermoon. Lending aid to a new group of friends. That fog of doubt began to dissipate. The realization hit him during meditation... It seemed so silly to have let such doubt grow. It was for nothing. It did not serve him. And it turned out to run anathema to events that happened. There had been no cause to fear, for his city did welcome him, and already he felt like he was finding his way back into a society that was better than he'd left it.

Sun'lon Brightspring
Tumblr media
(Art by @/chichiguma_ on Twitter, it's not done yet, though)
Name: Sun'lon "Sun" Brightspring
Pronouns: He/Him
Sexuality: Gay
Relationship Status: Single
Race: Blood Elf
Appearance: A tanned elf with dark hair and golden eyes. He has a single golden earring on his right ear, and his nipples are pierced. He is often in more ceremonial garb that's a mix of thalassian and pandaren aesthetics in vibrant blues and gold, and he rarely wears a shirt. Sometimes, he can be seen in a more modern black leather ensemble for when his usual attire is not acceptable. He can always be seen with two large iron-spoked fans at his hip.
Personality: Sun is an overall cheerful fellow. He's not unaware of when to take things seriously, and can show a surprising amount of discipline when necessary, but he's more often than not, bold, outgoing, excitable, and friendly. Rarely do things get him down, and if they do, he's quick to work it out and try to bring a smile to those around him. He's very protective of others, and puts a high emphasis on his personal moral code, as well as his teachings. And he's always looking for a friendly spar.
Brief Backstory: Sun'lon grew up in a small, common family in Eversong. Both of his parents were lynx tamers, so he grew up around animals and took a liking to them. He did not necessarily have a career in mind, but the call of adventure tempted him when he learned of the monks in Pandaria. It did not take much convincing for him to pack up and leave. He spent the next decade under the tutelage of Master Zhang Liao, a Pandaren with a secular temple in the Jade Forest. He was the Master's sole full time student in this time. There he trained in martial arts, tessen jutsu, and picked up hobbies like dancing, brewing, some art, and developed a desire to use his strength to help others. He completed his training and made the pilgrimage home on foot, stopping wherever he could on the way back, and learning of an upstart Thalassian monastery where he wishes to continue his training.
Hooks:
- You come to see one of his fan dancing performances, or have seen them as he traveled from Pandaria to Silvermoon.
- Your character would like to spar with him, or engage in any sort of friendly competition
- He is always willing to lend a hand to anyone in distress, often with boisterous confidence and joy
- You've crossed paths with him during his training or on his way back, and are either a rival or old friend, or even enemy
- Open to ideas!
(I am open to all kinds of RP, I just ask that we discuss everything beforehand. Communication is important, especially because I am very busy irl and may not have a consistent schedule to RP, but I love Sun and want to spend more time writing him.)
