i think renee's cross necklace has some really good symbolism.

renee gives her necklace to jean because she has faith in him. she believes that he will learn to heal and be happy. she's come from darkness like he has and she knows that he is strong enough to find his place in the light. she shares this positivity in her life with him, hoping it will help but she can't do much else from across the country

jean accidentally breaks the chain after the interview, where he's reminded of his family and what happened to elodie. the borrowed source of strength isn't enough to protect him from the overwhelming grief. why should anyone have faith in him, when elodie should be the one alive?

cat untangles laila's necklaces looking for a replacement chain as they listen to jean and kevin talk and untangle jean's past. and yet, they don't waver in their support. laila comments that it's something difficult to talk about. cat even apologizes for prying with everything else that was laid bare.

after cat hooks it together she says the chain is longer, it's lower, it's closer to his heart. it will hold up the cross and support renee's faith in jean, as cat and laila will support him.

renee believes in jean but laila and cat will the ones to hold him up.

I have only just started drawing digitally so this was a fun challenge and I’ll probably keep working on these two but for now I’m going to say they’re done!

Aaron was high. Or maybe he wasn't. Andrew sometimes found it hard to tell the difference because his brother was almost always high.

Brother... he still hadn't gotten used to the idea that he now had a brother, a family. Andrew didn't believe in family. Especially not family that shared the same blood, but something about Aaron was different. Maybe it was the fact that he was his twin. They had shared a womb for 9 months until they had been forcibly torn apart. Andrew found himself looking at Aaron sometimes and imagining what it would have been like if Tilda had been a good mother and they had grown up together.

But there was no point in thinking about the 'what ifs' if it was never going to happen.

Andrew had his dark past and Aaron's was playing out before his eyes every day.

"You know, I wanted to be a firefighter once." Aaron stared into his cup, lost in thought. "When I was four or something."

"Me too," Andrew thought, but didn't say it out loud

"Mom just laughed." Aaron's pupils were huge and Andrew was already plotting in his mind how to kill Tilda. The bruise across Aaron's neck didn't help to stop these thoughts - it only intensified them.

Andrew had noticed the look on Aaron's face when he had seen the doctors watching TV today. He had seen the gleam in his eye that he had never seen before. Not even when he was high. Andrew vowed to do everything he could to make Aaron's dreams come true.

"Do you have dreams, Drew?"

The nickname hurt. The last time someone had given him one was Drake and... Andrew forced himself to drop that thought and nodded slowly.

He had dreams. Killing Tilda, for example.

"My biggest dream is not to die in this house. Not by... her." Aaron reached a hand into the pocket of his hoodie and pulled out a white pill.

Andrew didn't know what exactly it was, but he knew it was drugs. He hit Aaron's hand so hard that the pill flew across the room, but Aaron didn't even flinch. He was used to worse.

Tired, he smiled at Andrew. "Promise me I won't die here, Drew."

The nickname still hurt, but he'd put up with it for Aaron. For Aaron, he would endure so much more. "I promise," Andrew whispered back.

Aaron asked Matt to drop him off at the library after dinner but Matt is stuck playing video games with Nicky and as Aaron gets exasperated, Andrew offers to bring him. It's weird, Andrew never does that but they've been in therapy for a while now and Aaron supposes this might be Andrew putting in the effort, so he agrees. When they get to the library Andrew asks if it's alright if he studies with him. It's weird, Andrew never studies in the library but again, effort. So Aaron agrees and they find a table in the quiet and mostly deserted library to study, taking up spots for at least four people, not sitting too close to one another but comfortably within talking range. Not that they talk, though, it's quiet and they're focused on their work and Aaron finds himself actually really liking this. After about an hour he begins to get a little tired so he gets up to get an energy drink and he offers Andrew one too who takes him up on that.

"Cheers," Aaron says, holding up his can in salute as he sits back down.

Andrew salutes back before downing what should be a decent bit of the can in a few seconds. Aaron lifts an eyebrow but averts his eyes to go back to studying. The words leave his mouth before he can really agree on saying them. "Josten keeping you up, huh?" He knows damn well they sleep in the same bed most nights, Nicky said so. Andrew doesn't look up, doesn't even stop writing in his notebook. "No, the nightmares do." And it's an unexpected piece of honesty and damn it's Andrew so he might just be saying it for it's shockfactor, but Aaron has shared a room with his brother for long enough to know that a lot of nights there is something keeping him up. "Bet you didn't expect that, fucker," Andrew grumbles, still not looking up from his books. And it's fair, Aaron was pushing him with his comment about Josten. Aaron, despite himself, smiles. Touché, brother.

Neil has forgotten what day it is. It's hard to keep track of the time when there are no clocks and the walls are all black. Neil remembered Jean's words about enjoying the sky and the sunlight one last time before entering the nest as he looked into riko's dark eyes.

There was no warmth there, no compassion. Only coldness and hatred.

"Are you having fun, Nathaniel?" he asked as a hand slowly moved to his neck and squeezed. Neil could hardly breathe.

Jean stood motionless next to him and tried not to break eye contact, but Neil could see how much strength it was costing him.

"It'll be over soon," Jean whispered in French and promptly received a slap in the face that sent him staggering backwards a few steps.

Neil endured the torture. He knew he could leave the nest in the end. He had a way of escaping all this - not like Jean. Jean would stay in the nest until he was released... which would probably never be.

So Neil closed his eyes and tried not to scream

I'm currently rereading a FanFic where Nicky takes in the twins when they were 5 years old and it's one of my favorite FanFics. I need more of something like that.

FanFictions where the twins call Nicky Dad and he totally freaks out, but in the twins' eyes Nicky was more of a dad than anyone else. He worked hard to earn that title.

In general, I need FanFictions where the twins recognize what Nicky has done for them. Regardless of whether Nicky took them in when they were 5 or as it was in the books at 16

thinking about Nicky putting himself and the twins up in a hotel before he got the Columbia house. one with two rooms and 4 beds and he still chooses to sleep on the shitty pull out couch because Aaron gets antsy sharing private space and he knows Andrew would kill him for the suggestion

and its expensive, and he cant afford it, but there's a small kitchen and the twins have comfortable beds and they have those double chocolate muffins that Andrew likes every morning.

and its so much better than living with his parents. sure its incredibly expensive and slightly uncomfortable but anything is better than him living with his father, Andrew living with someone who didn't believe him, and Aaron not being fed his fathers bullshit.

they're safe, they're comfortable and that's all Nicky could ask for
