                    dark  hues  focus  on  the  squirtle  plushie  as  she  sits  for  another  round  (   she’s  lost  count   )  at  whopper  waters   .   she’s  been  roaming  around  the  park  for  a  while  now—   none  of  the  rides  have  captured  her  attention  just  yet   ,   but  that  certain  prize  caught  her  eye   .   the  round  starts  strong  with  her  leading  the  race  for  the  bell   ,   but  once  again   ,   araya  lost  to  the  kid  next  to  her   .   as  much  as  she  wants  to  steal  one  of  the  plushies  that  the  kid  won   ,   she  wouldn’t  just  fight  a  kid  over  squirtle   (   though  it’d  seem  fitting   )   .   she  admits  defeat  to  the  game   ,   maybe  she’ll  try  again  later   ?   that  was  until  a  familial  figure  came  to  view   .   it  wouldn’t  be  the  same  if  someone  else  won  the  game  for  her   ,   but  she’s  desperate  now   .   “   hey—   ”   she  wraps  her  hands  around  their  arm   ,   tugging  on  it  playfully   .   “   i’ve  tried  all  my  luck  at  this  game   ,   but  i  keep  losing  to  kids   ,   ”   she  pouts  softly   ,   looking  back  at   the  wall  covered  with  plushies   .   “   if  you  win  me  a  squirtle   ,   the  funnel  cakes  are  one   ,   deal   ?   ”

            fresh  from  the  souvenir  store  with  a  small  bag  of  items  ,  sunnie  was  ready  to  find  her  next  adventure  .  for  the  most  part  ,  her  day  had  been  tame  as  she  stuffed  herself  full  with  sweets  and  a  slice  of  pizza  that  she  easily  thinks  is  the  best  she’s  ever  had  ,  and  at  one  point  finding  herself  unintentionally  flirting  with  a  man  who  was  playing  one  of  the  games  .  that’s  how  she  ended  up  with  a  dog  plush  from  some  kid’s  show  .  sunnie  lost  the  man  in  the  crowd  ,  so  she  figured  she’d  go  off  to  find  something  else  that  would  occupy  her  time  .  her  mind  is  set  on  trying  her  hand  at  a  pyramid  game  ,  but  that  changes  when  she  feels  a  pair  of  arms  wrap  around  her  own  and  hear  araya’s  gentle  timbre  .  ‘  hey  ray  ,  ’  she  beams  ,  happy  to  see  a  friendly  face  .  ‘  which  game  are  you  playing  ?  i’m  not  really  good  at  these  things  ,  but  i’m  willing  to  try  for  you  .  ’  her  friend’s  offer  is  tempting  .  ‘  do  i  still  get  the  funnel  cake  even  if  i  don’t  win  ?  ’

“ i must say, i feel rather like a kid in a candy shop, ” jack grinned with a light chuckle. it was quite fitting that that be the source the other hear it from. “ yes – i read up on it. given her busy schedule, i do doubt she’d make an appearance this year, but queen latifah’s been a previous guest star. ” they did not know anything about queen latifah’s schedule, but they had to assume she was a very busy woman ! “ so if it’s good enough for her… ”

            sunnie’s  smile  broadens  a  bit  more  .  she  hadn’t  expected  to  meet  someone  who  was  excited  about  something  other  than  the  games  and  rides  .  ‘  queen  latifah  ?  ’  sunnie  munches  on  another  praline  ,  and  is  pretty  surprised  that  such  a  big  name  would  come  be  a  part  of  such  a  parade  .  ‘  is  she  coming  this  year  ?  or  are  we  expecting  someone  else  ?  ’  suddenly  ,  sunnie  is  very  intrigued  by  the  chance  of  seeing  a  celebrity  .  ‘  oh  man  ,  i  hadn’t  expected  this  from  the  parade  .  ’

for as kind as the day-pass offered to him was, the original plan had been to give it to his neighbor – single mother with the perfectly aged preteen for coney island. he’d gone once before – very cute, very ‘must see,’ but not necessarily worth a second visit… until they looked it up online, just to double-check, and saw that they would be missing the mermaid parade if they didn’t attend this year ! thus, standing on the boardwalk and waiting for it to begin, a small bag of kettlecorn in his arms, he caught the eye of a coworker. on an average day, he would let them be… but this was no average day. they slowly jogged up to catch them and asked the most important question: “ did you also see that the mermaid parade is today ? ”

            a  day  at  coney  island  was  a  welcomed  break  for  sunnie  ,  happy  to  do  anything  else  other  than  sitting  in  her  apartment  and  only  grocery  shopping  .  it  was  nice  ,  really  ,  to  not  have  on  a  pair  of  heels  and  an  incredibly  itchy  skirt  in  favor  of  shorts  and  sandals  .  sunnie  had  done  something  else  aside  from  amusement  rides  ,  instead  opting  to  fulfill  her  sweet  tooth  with  a  stop  at  a  nearby  candy  store  .  it’s  when  she’s  filling  her  bag  with  pralines  that  she  overhears  a  rather  bratty  child  whining  to  their  mother  about  not  missing  a  parade  ,  so  she  finds  herself  waiting  for  such  a  parade  to  start  .  sunnie  perks  up  a  bit  when  her  eye  catches  that  of  someone  familiar  ,  and  a  soft  smile  appears  on  her  features  .  ‘  i  heard  it  from  a  kid  in  that  candy  store  .  i  feel  like  this  is  going  to  be  quite  the  show  ,  though  .  ’

SUNNIE  HONG  AT  CONEY  ISLAND.

            sunnie hong  arrives  at  coney  island  dressed  perfectly  for  the  summer  heat  .  a  rather  simple  outfit  of  high  waist  denim  shorts  and  a  white  ribbed  ,  lettuce  edge  top  .  she  pairs  the  outfit  with  ‘  tony  bianco  ’  sandals  from  chanel  ,  and  for  a  pop  of  color  ,  a  mint - toned  bag  from  the  coveted  telfar  brand  .

gwen was all for color coordination and organization - even if she didn’t really do any of that. the most she had was important dates shoved into her calendar of performance days or gigs and that was about it - and they weren’t color coded in the slightest. “this would overwhelm me. i’m not sure how you even make time to color code at all.” considering the booked state of sunnie’s schedule it didn’t seem like she had much time for anything. or perhaps… nothing. she had no time for nothing, which was gwen’s favorite thing to do.

            sunnie  caps  her  pen  and  looks  down  at  her  planner  once  more  .  it  was  methodical  ,  really  ,  the  way  she  went  about  planning  out  her  days  ,  weeks  ,  and  months  without  even  thinking  of  how  silly  it  may  seem  to  others  .  ‘  it  just  ,  uh  —  it  helps  to  differentiate  between  tasks  .  you  know  ,  work  ,  personal  ,  miscellaneous  .  i’ve  been  doing  it  since  college  .  ’  her  schedule  was  packed  ,  especially  during  the  week  ,  with  time  delegated  for  each  one  .  ‘  believe  it  or  not  ,  it  keeps  me  sane  .  ’

            okay  ,  maybe  sunnie  should  have  expected  such  a  response  .  she’s  always  been  like  this  —  she  would  hide  away  diligently  doing  her  work  until  it  was  time  to  go  ,  or  the  clock  ticked  closer  to  the  early  morning  hours  .  it’s  a  miracle  that  she  somehow  had  a  social  life  (  it  wasn’t  great  ,  but  she  had  one  )  with  how  much  emphasis  she  put  on  her  work  .  did  she  really  look  that  bad  ?  the  desire  to  reach  for  the  compact  mirror  in  her  purse  makes  sunnie’s  hand  itch  ,  but  she  doesn’t  dare  to  open  the  purse  out  .  ‘  yeah  ,  ’  she  clears  her  throat  quietly  .  ‘  that  must  be  it  .  ’  and  somehow  ,  the  other  woman  was  right  .  sunnie  was  not  working  smarter  ,  as  she  has  yet  to  shake  the  habit  of  staying  hours  after  everyone  else  in  her  department  to  condense  the  mountain  of  paperwork  on  her  desk  ,  only  for  it  to  be  stacked  higher  the  next  morning  .  sunnie  hides  her  hand  ,  fingernails  beginning  to  press  into  the  flesh  of  her  palm  .  ‘  it  looks  . . .   complicated  to  be  an  influencer  ,  especially  in  today’s  climate  of  influence  .  making  sure  you  sponsor  the  right  people  ,  and  god  forbid  a  makeup  collab  goes  south  .  ’  influencing  was  weird  ,  and  maybe  it’s  why  sunnie’s  instagram  homepage  is  only  filled  with  family  and  friends  ,  along  with  the  occasional  clothing  brand  .  sunnie  nods  .  ‘  right  —  ’  the  elevator  dings  with  perfect  timing  .  ‘  most  people  don’t  .  i  should  ,  um  ,  i  should  go  .  ’

soleil mentally cursed at herself as she continued to blot her under eye area. it had been a rough few days for her and honestly she needed to let it all out– what she also needed was a churro, and maybe 4 shots of tequila– and a cat. soleil nodded to the other– “ sunnie– i have an overwhelming urge, no urge isn’t the word. need, i need to get a cat today. and maybe a churro somewhere, but a cat definitely. ” soleil, although being allergic to a degree had spent hours the night before looking at local rescues online.

            soleil  was  one  of  sunnie’s  best  friends  ,  the  two  of  them  getting  along  with  their  somewhat  similar  relievers  of  stress  .  her  lower  lip  drags  between  her  teeth  for  a  second  ,  perking  up  when  the  other  woman  speaks  to her  .  ‘  you  want  to  get  a  cat  ?  ’  her  brow  quips  as  if  the  woman  has  grown  horns  on  her  head  .  ‘  where  would  you  get  a  cat  from  ?  ’  the  elevator  dings  ,  signaling  that  they’ve  reached  the  ground  floor  .  ‘  we  can  get  a  cat  and  a  churro  ,  wait  .  ’  sunnie  exits  the  elevator  to  take  the  papers  in  her  hands  to  someone  at  reception  ,  and  walks  back  over  to  soleil  .  ‘  come  on  ,  then  .  ’

SUNNIE  HONG  :  HEADCANONS  .

despite  her  being  …  sad  ,  she  is  a  firm  believer  in  dancing  by  herself  .  loves  to  put  on  her  favorite  album(s)  while  cleaning  and  really  doesn’t  care  who  sees  (  or  hears  )  .  

big  tee  shirts  for  life  .  if  you  ever  catch  her  at  a  bodega  ,  she’s  getting  snacks  in  a  giant  shirt  .  if  you  catch  her  at  a  café  early  on  a  lazy  sunday  morning  ,  same  thing  .  she  occasionally  wears  cute  matching  pajama  sets  ,  but  also  doesn’t  care  .

goes  no  a  ‘  no  meat  ’  meal  at  least  three  times  a  week  .  sometimes  she  succeeds  ,  but  she  usually  end  up  craving  deep - fried  pork  cutlet  more  times  than  necessary  .

let  her  sleep  !  people  might  call  her  an  old  woman  ,  but  sunnie  is  usually  in  bed  no  later  than  10pm  .  it’s  a  miracle  if  someone  gets  her  to  go  out  and  she  doesn’t  somehow  weasel  her  way  out  of  staying  out  too  late  .  

HOME.

considering  that  she  doesn’t  have  a  pet  ,  sunnie  only  has  plants  lingering  around  her  apartment  .  she  only  has  low - maintenance  plants  ,  though  ,  such  as  a  zenzi  plant  ,  succulents  in  her  bathroom  ,  and  a  zz  plant  .

her  most  prized  possession  is  her  apartment  is  her  pink  velvet  couch  .  she  spends  most  of  her  time  on  it  and  has  probably  fallen  asleep  on  it  multiple  times  .

she  lives  in  one  of  those  old  ,  pre - war  apartment  buildings  where  you  can  only  use  stairs  .  there  have  definitely  been  times  where  dates  have  gotten  awkward  because  she  lives  on  the  sixth  floor  .

she  hangs  out  on  her  fire  escape  sometimes  ,  but  not  often  .  will  enjoy  a  coffee  and  a  podcast  (  with  headphones  in  )  on  an  early  morning  if  she  has  the  chance  .

MANNERISMS.

bites  her  lip  and  the  inside  of  her  cheek  all  the  time  .  sometimes  she  does it  without  thinking  ,  and  most  of  the  time  it’s  when  she’s  in   deep  thought  .

one  of  those  people  who  will  chug  her  drinks  when  she  notices  the  ice  is  melting  .  really  hates  the  taste  of  watered  down  drinks  (  both  alcoholic  and  non  )  ,  so  if  you  see  her  chugging  ,  it’s  time  for  another  drink  .  

has  a  habit  of  changing  her  hair  multiple  times  a  day  .  she’ll  come  to  work  with  her  hair  down  ,  then  it’ll  end  up  in  a  low  bun  ,  and  finally  in  a  ponytail  before  it’s  all  said  and  done  .  fingers  are  constantly  twirling  her  hair  no  matter  the  occasion  .  

mentioned  in  her  intro  ,  but  sunnie  is  soft  spoken  .  she  really  isn’t  one  to  yell  (  unless  she’s  angry  )  ,  and  even  then  she’s  just  not  a  loud  speaker  and  prefers  to  keep  her  tone  relaxed  .

sunnie  has  a  boisterous  laugh  ,  but  she’ll  do  her  best  to  hide  it  .  she  will  cover  her  mouth  or  let  out  small  giggles  in  an  effort  to  stop  them  ,  but  it  usually  doesn’t  work  .  get  ready  to  hear  some  loud  laughter  in  the  halls  of  masters  .
