they're biologically kind of like a living stuffed animal (with stuffing in place of organs and stuff) and they have a weird freaky stitched on monster arm cuz their actual one got torn off as a kid. they work as a clown but they're really really bad at their job and never make anyone laugh. they also have an angel following them around trying to assassinate them but that's not important right now

something i really like about buddy simulator is how it like. uses gamer instinct to throw you for a loop

like, 99% of the time, every single element in a game is put in there on purpose, and that becomes 100% of the time if the game directly acknowledges it

you learn after a while of playing games to explore and interact with as many things as possible, and also that if a game makes a point of mentioning some specific detail, it's trying to push you in the right direction. whether it be for the story progression or some optional thing that may help you, or just something the game wants you to notice

and this usually includes any in-game narrator using reverse psychology. telling you to pay no mind to something is still commenting on it, and is thus probably the game itself telling you that you should, in fact, pay mind to it

so in my experience, when a "glitch" happened and buddy goes "oh yeah don't touch that", my brain immediately went "oh, i'm supposed to touch it, that's the game telling me that this is the way to progress"

and then i got the neutral ending despite being nice to buddy at every possible opportunity

it subtly makes the game and buddy feel more "real", because unlike most other games, if buddy tells you not to touch something, that's not the game giving you a hint, that's buddy telling you they do not want you to touch that.

and it is still technically a hint in its own way, but not one to show you one specific correct path, but rather give you a hint towards what to do and what not to do depending on what you want buddy to think of you

idk i think its neat

now that i think about it the game "there is no game" is kind of the exact opposite of buddy simulator in that sense

says something cool about how the body breaking apart isn't literal but its a representation of how the lonely wizard's psyche is breaking and their brain is so desperate for stimulation that it's making up stimuli and they can't tell what's happening and what's not. hi
