Princess Maker 2 is becoming a VR game in 2017!

PM2 is one of my favorite childhood games, where you raise a young girl in hope of her becoming a queen by age 18. Originally released in 1994, with successors such as Princess Maker 3, 4, and 5, the PM series faced some internal problems within GAINAX (yes, the company behind Gurren Lagann and Evangelion also produced games. I’m guessing the creator Takami Akai stepping down from GAINAX was one of the major reasons) and was basically an abandoned franchaise after 2007.

Luckily, the Korean mobile game producer MGame took up the slack by purchasing the publication and production rights! They’re behind the new game mobile Princess Maker Kakao, which is available in Japanese and Korean on Android and iOS. They also just released the first official Princess Maker game in English on Steam - Princess Maker 2: Refine.

Considering MGame already has created PM Kakao, I am expecting that the VR game will be in similar style to this game, with a modern, 3D bishoujo athestic and a lot of references to the old games (as you can see in the top picture - the Kakao Princess is wearing the original PM2 dress).

With MGame bringing new life into the franchise, it will be interesting to see how the development of the new game will be. Most likely they will continue with its previous features such as RPG, stat building, romance, friendship building, parenting, the best butler ever and more... in a virtual reality setting!!
