"but you are special to us."
"you are so special."
sunset froze while scarlett continued to speak. that was the exact same thing one of the twins had told her before they disappeared into obscurity, nobody really knowing where they're off to this time. it was when sunset thought that maybe, at this point in her life that she should take on whatever's ahead of her on her own and not be someone else's lost follower anymore. but perhaps the way the older blonde was talking to her, perhaps she knew more than what she does. it was what had lead sunset to the cult in the first place, to following the twins when they've ended it with their bloodied hands. is sunset really bound to be on her own, or is she meant to be whatever scarlett was speaking about?
"m'not..." sunset shakes her head once more, refusing to believe what the woman has been speaking of, even though a small part of her was starting to, it was beginning to plant doubts on the plan she had thought for herself when she had been left alone for the first time in her life. "i don't--i don't understand, scarlett..." sunset chooses to rephrase her words this time. "i...i'm confused...who--who am i to you, why...why do you think such thing of me?" she asks as tears started to well in her eyes for some reason, wanting to take grasp of whatever she meant. "you've got me wrong, i--i'm nothing special, not even close..."
"No," Scarlett was quick to state, this was not a mistake. Nothing about Sunset was a mistake. She had been brought to this town for a reason, the same way Scarlett had. They had both been at the bonfire for a reason. Their paths had crossed for a reason. And the reason was reuniting. It was like the clouds in her mind had parted, and now the light was shining through... and it was shining directly on the blonde before her.
She shook her head, wisps of hair falling in her face, but she didn't bother to brush them away. She didn't dare to move, to breathe, to even blink, as if she would lose this revelation as quickly as it had come. "You are so special," she promised, pouring her entire soul into the words. "You don't remember, you don't have to remember. It's okay. You are everything, don't you see?"

the more scarlett spoke, the more clueless sunset has become, now really understanding what she meant about knowing her in another life. she had her doubts on the beliefs she was taught of growing up, that she begun questioning it, and eventually going against it the very second freedom was given to her. but this...it was somehow affecting her thoughts, remembering what one of the twins had told her. she wasn't supposed to be alive that day. is this where she meant to be? whatever scarlett was talking about that was beyond sunset's understanding? her mind was just clouded at this point.
confusion filled sunset's features, yet she holds on scarlett's hands, not knowing what to do. "scarlett...this could be a mistake, whatever it is." sunset whispers, a frown on her face, not knowing how scarlett would react with how she looks at the situation. "i don't think i'm anything special, or close to even what you think..." but could this be the reason the twins didn't kill her like they did the others, behind how they feel about her? maybe, an inkling of her wishes it was the reason. "i don't think i am who you believe i am..."
It took a moment to gather herself, to not burst into tears, happy tears, tears of relief. So long. For so long Scarlett had worried about his little soul, where he had ended up, who was looing after him now, so far from her protection. She could not understand why she had been sent to the bonfire, why she had felt the urge to go so strongly and God had only let her suffer the screams, the horror, not allowed her to stop it, not given her a way... but now it made sense. There was always a reason. She should not have assumed otherwise, she should not have let her trust falter, and later, she would beg for forgiveness that she knew she was already granted.
She would understand, She always had, that Scarlett was only human; that, sometimes, she could not see the bigger picture the way an all-powerful entity could, that she was flawed with doubt and sin and all of the things that God loved her for anyway. "In another life, dear," she finally spoke, the explanation making no sense at all as she released Sunset's arm only to grasp both of her hands in hers, gently. The confusion was clear, and she did not wish to scare the poor woman more than she already had. "She sent you back to me. My angel."

"i still feel vey bad that i made you drop your croissant, that's why...i brought you these." it was kind of silly, really, come to thing about the reason why sunset's standing outside of theo's place, box of croissants in hand, just because she couldn't help but stare and her and admire how the mayor's secretary is so pretty. it's just typical sunset fashion and her habit of bumping into people that happened that day. thank god it wasn't a drink that theo was carrying. "oh...i think i'd like some tea." sunset gives theo a shy smile whilst she walks in her place, which she admires, too. now that she was living alone, she has to learn how to maintain the house on her own. but right now isn't the time to think of it, as she watches theo, following her around like a lost puppy. "y-you have a nice place..."
“ well aren’t you a peach ! ” it’s rare for theo to have visitors . their home had always served as a private sanctuary . a place for them to unwind and for a moment , pretend that they aren’t keeping their fair share of secrets . and sunset’s appearance is certainly unexpected but not an unwelcome one . the younger woman seems to present no ill-intent . they smile politely , listening to the blonde ramble . “ it’s fine . this might make me sound a bit boring but i like my croissants without any spreads . ain’t much of a sweet tooth . ” they step aside to let her in . “ you want some coffee ? or tea ? can’t exactly finish all these croissants myself . ”

SUNSET MACHER.
coming home, your muse finds this taped to their front door. there is nothing else with it, just a card. something about it feels familiar, but you can't pinpoint exactly what it is. . .

LOCATION: antique shop in helltown mall FOR: ford merritt @ghxstxstxries
"w...what?" sunset may have been standing there for a while now, eyes trained on the necklace that caught her attention the second she entered the antique shop, just admiring how beautiful it is. with her upbringing, this was one of those things the blonde has been prohibited of, and of course, she's always wondered...but didn't want to be a bother to ford, even though...let's be honest, he's one of the few receiving ends of sunset's endless questions. "sorry, i'll...i'll put it down, it's just really pretty..."

“i bring treats! well, croissants.” sunset greets theo the second she opens the door, seeing the blonde bears a box of goods she had just bought from the bakery. “though...i kind of forgot to get the spreads too--or whatever it is you like having in a croissant. i do like that erm...hazelnut thing...nutella! that’s the one.” it wasn’t long until sunset notices she had been rambling in front of theo and she hasn’t even let her in yet. “...please? the box is kind of too warm for me to hold longer...”

sunset could see how evidently the woman's demeanor changed the second she sees her, and just like before, scarlett was uttering words she couldn't understand. i know you. confusion etched on her expression, she brings them to the side, not wanting to block other people's ways. "scarlett...i don't understand what you mean...we met at the bonfire..." perhaps for a moment she's forgotten that she was the one who brought sunset out of the hell the bonfire brought to the people, she wanted to convince herself that that was the case, but the look on scarlett's face tells her different, something beyond her understanding. "scarlett..." she says her name once more. "what...what you do mean?"
She barely heard the girl as she spoke, in another world away... nothing unusual for Scarlett. It was the gentle touch that brought her back to earth, that caused the older woman to look at her, really look at her. There was something about Sunset's eyes, a familiarness, a recognition she hadn't been able to pinpoint at the bonfire. At the bonfire. A reason. The gasp that left her own lips surprised her, something clicking inside of her mind, all of the pieces falling into place. It couldn't be. But it was, it had to be. "I know you," she whispered, her free hand lifting to rest on Sunset's, unable to break her gaze, emotion clouding her expression. She didn't care how insane it was. She was sure, more sure than she had been of anything in her life. "I know you."

sunset couldn't resist the urge to stare at the woman before her, perhaps still worried from the bonfire that happened days before, the chaos that ensued, she wanted to know if she was doing alright, at least, physically, given how they've bumped into each other that day, troubled wasn't even the right term to describe it. she slips her phone in her pocket, before responding to scarlett. "i'm doing...okay, i was just...toying with this thing, it was giver." she shrugs, not really knowing how to explain it. the past couple of days have been not really stable as a flatline for her. sunset couldn't help but sense something in scarlett that says she was, she assumes, deep in her own thoughts, somehow close enough to how she was the last time they've seen each other. "are you...are you alright?" she couldn't help but ask, one hand coming up to hold on to scarlett's arm, as if she was floating and sunset had pulled her back to have her feet flat on the ground. she wanted to help this time, just like scarlett got her out of that mess the first time they met.
Scarlett had been in a strange mindset ever since the bonfire — strange, even, for her. She had felt a bit disconnected from everything, and she had not had any dreams or hallucinations since before that night. She could not lose faith in her God, doing so would cause the very fabric of her sanity (what was left of it, that was) to tear in half. She had to find a reason for it all, but no matter how hard she tried, no matter how much she prayed, she was met with silence. Bumping into Sunset was just as much her fault as the younger woman's, paying very little attention to her surroundings, in a bit of a daze, but she offered her a warm smile anyway. "It's quite alright," she assured her, though her eyes weren't really trained on Sunset, seeming to look through her rather than at her. "Lovely to see you again. How are you doing?"

LOCATION: outside eggs and a biscuit FOR: scarlett shaw @thclastlight
despite the horror looming over helltown, it somehow cannot beat sunset's need to explore, at least take a little walk around, so she has decided to get up early and prepared something for the twins before she leaves as she's not going to be able to join them for breakfast. on her way to the diner, the blonde's eyes had been glued to the phone josie has given her. she had been able to learn the basics of it, at least to communicate with ekin and belkis when she isn't home. though she was trying to transition from her old, barely function cd player to this, as she knew it was just going to give out one of these days. as she was focused on the tracklist on her phone, she accidentally bumps into someone--it was honestly becoming a habit of hers at this point. "i apolo--" she stops, noticing who it was she bumped into, the woman who helped her get out of the summer solstice and the hellhole it's become. "m'sorry..." she murmurs. she was relieved to see scarlett, that she was safe, given the last time she's seen her, instead of joining her to leave the chaos, the older woman came back to it instead.

to feel like the past that she was trying to leave follow her to a place that she considers her home was something sunset didn't expect to see, long after she finally had the chance to leave the place that had her shackled most her life from the world. the rest of the summer solstice was a blur, from the conversation with ekin-su, how she isn't even meant to survive the very thing she had considered to be her escape, but she was special to the twins that they decided to spare her. did she survive because she wasn't meant to die yet, or was it really because of ekin's reasoning? her mind was running a million miles per hour, though it has slowed down the second rowan found her again in the midst of the chaos, when scarlett helped her find her way out and just disappeared back before she could even say thank you.
safe. rowan felt safe and sunset held on to them, tighter this time, though not wanting to hurt them. she had been quiet ever since then, gradually calming herself down as she repeats rowan's words in her head. she'll be safe there, with her, away from the horror of the day before.
rowan's slight movement wakes sunset up a little, but she clung on to her sleep a little more, subconsciously moving closer into their arms, turning to her side with her arm now around their waist. "rowan..." she murmurs, voice still laced with a bit of drowsiness whilst her face now slowly moves closer their neck. her eyes were still shut, not wanting to let go of the coziness being close to the other was giving her. "don't..." her eyebrows furrow for a moment, pulling them closer, as if there was still space between the two of them. "don't go." now a verbal plea, a repeat from what she had asked of them last night before she surrendered to her need to sleep.
a world of disaster and heartbreak and disappointment later, rowan had finally found her. terrified out of her mind, shaking like a leaf, and alone walking god knows where. but they had made it, with their heart shattered in pieces after the ugly revelations from the friend group they once upon a time considered their family, rowan had found sunset, and the sight, despite the harshness of it, was such a comforting one she couldn’t make anything but grab her trembling hand and guide her home. you’re gonna stay with me, you’ll be safe there, had been the words muttered as she dragged her along, as her fingers threaded with sunset’s. they had lied her on the bed carefully once in their apartment, tucked her in carefully, and had planned to let her rest there when sunset’s hand grabbed theirs again in a silent plea. it had been a quick decision to stay there after that, to discard the idea of taking the couch — both of them needed the comfort, the company, and rowan was too exhausted and too broken to deny her and themself this. the peace she felt when morning came was one rare for what had transpired the night before, and it took her a moment to realize it was the warmth between her arms, the body tucked safely against her side what was giving her the sensation. half asleep, they smiled, even through the bitterness that the memories slowly coming back put on the back of her tongue. she inhaled deeply, recently baked cookies and popcorn, and her arms instinctively tightened around the soft frame they were surrounding. " hey… " they greeted, realizing sunset was stirring as much as them, and suddenly, as warm air hit their neck, their body stiffened. that was dangerous territory. " hey, good morning… " the words were a soft murmur as she put a little distance between them, nothing too excessive, just enough to drive sunset’s lips away from her skin. " did you sleep okay, love ? "

"oh? what are those ones?' for the past couple of weeks, food has been one of the things sunset has delved into and learned about, given how they were limited back then in a place they used to call home. she had picked up a couple of things herself while she was out, ones she doesn't remember seeing as a kid and what's supposed to be new ones--sweets, mostly, perhaps sunset does have a sweet tooth. she puts packs of unfamiliar chocolates on the table, before taking the bag and pops the chip in her mouth. "oh, this one's tangy, i like it. you wanna try the ones i got?"
closed: @sunset-fms location: their place
Stood in the kitchen with an array of different snacks in front of her, Belkis was enjoying the new tastes that she'd never had before. Taking bites out of each thing before discarding it for something new, her treatment of food mirroring her treatment of people. "You have to try this." She spoke without looking up to make eye contact with Sunset as they entered the same room. "It's a powdered or something cheese covered chip."
