Chapter 47: The Question

Summary:

Rei attends a wedding—and receives some surprising news.

This one goes out to the Amorra squad. I present to you one of the most precious stories that I ever read. Back in the day, I stumbled upon this fic and was immediately enthralled back in my high school days. This writer managed to create such a believable redemption arc for Amon. I worked with a wonderful artist (x:Tortuga) who illustrated key moments in the story.

long time no post. started a new job working 50 hours a week so im unfortunately very busy now.

Practice illustration for posting consistency: Style matching - Noatak/Amon

(once again shading based off vibes cuz no idea what I'm doing) Trying to make a character reference sheet of Noatak for myself because for some reason the only official unmasked amon character sheet is extremely low resolution, even in the official art book I bought (and online scans were only marginally better) and half of his animation cuts look much different than the official character design sheet. (granted, he's at different angles, distances, and facial expressions). But it doesn't change the fact we only have about six (continuous) cuts of Amon without his mask to work with, and he looks much different in almost all of them.

If you actually zoom in the character reference sheet for Amon, you'll see he has completely different eyebrows than what's seen in the show. Some notes here:

Opted to not include cheek bone lines because that only showed up for a singular cut (face burn reveal) and isn't in the character reference sheet.

I still can't figure out his hair bumps. I think I need to make them more subtle (less heavy roundness on the top) and less wide on the horizontal side. And I think I have too many hair strands dangling below. Still haven't really settled on his eyes. The design sheet clearly wants them angular/narrow and squinty, but he only really looks like this in two cuts in the tarrlok prison scene, and they're zoomed out really far. I'll settle on something the more I draw him.

Sorry for the insane ramblings of ultimately unimportant details to tell an effective story. I just find these sorts of exercises fun. Anyone who sees this: feel free to give feedback on how to adjust my illustration to look more on model.

I'll probably wake up a few days from now, realize how funky and off model this looks and delete later. Enjoy for now, lol. 🏃💨

sometimes I wonder how y'all are obsessed with specific characters and I'm like "why them" but then I remember that sometimes its literally not your choice you just look at them wrong and all of a sudden they're taking up your every thought forever
