Ontario Power Generation and the province are planning three more small modular reactors at the site of the Darlington nuclear power plant, located in Clarington, Ont., which is about 70 kilometres east of Toronto.

One small modular reactor (SMR) is already being built there, with construction of the first unit set to be complete by 2028.

Ontario Power Generation president Ken Hartwick says the planned fleet of SMRs would produce 1,200 megawatts of electricity, enough to power the equivalent of 1.2 million homes by the mid-2030s.

That is around when rising electricity demand is projected to surpass supply by about 5,000 megawatts and Energy Minister Todd Smith has made a number of recent announcements aimed at closing that gap, including a new, large-scale nuclear plant at Bruce Power on Lake Huron.

Smith says it is part of Ontario's plan to meet electricity demand with emissions-free power, though some critics have warned about relying on SMRs as a relatively untested power source. This was today. this is right now. 13 ppl were killed in Al-shati camp today, which is where my friend ( @moayeshblog) was displaced from. these martyrs aren’t numbers and they aren’t just a sacrifice but they had families, hopes, dreams, and wants like the rest of the world.

my close friend mohammed, who’ve i’ve been in contact with for ab 7 months now, lives in a reality where he must weigh his life against the lives of his family. because wanting to eat has become synonymous with trading your life for bread in the Strip. he almost died yesterday for flour.

but he wouldn’t have to risk everything if you can just give anything. Any amount you give goes towards buying the expensive food in the market, saving him from having to receive ‘flour dipped in blood’ as ppl in Gaza have labeled it.

i know it’s uncomfortable, being responsible for life in these moments but it’s even more uncomfortable to live mohammed’s reality. $5 is the only thing required of you while he’s sacrificing his mind, body, happiness, & spirit on a daily basis.
