I worked on these paintings for about three and a half months. From mid September to mid December of 2024. This is just the beginning of a series of portraits i will work on until my graduation next year. Inspired by the music that made me who I am. The music that helped me bond with others, communicate with others and those people, as these albums and artists have, left an indelible mark on me. Here in these self portraits I explore identity. I play dress up. I become what i adore, and maybe, just maybe then I’ll be able to become who i want to be. I truly enjoyed these exercises of observation and immersion.

First assignment of the semester: a preview of whats to come for the rest of the year. What i decided I wanted to work on was recreating album covers by paintings, and changing the subject of the cover with me. All this is to explore the sense of self through the painting. What makes me, me. All these albums were carefully picked as well, since all of them are extremely important for me… sort of like the soundtrack of my life.

In this painting I recreated the Ummagumma album cover by Pink Floyd, in which I replaced David Gilmour with myself and the different elements in the original picture with stuff that I own. There’s my guitar, one of my Blur vinyls and the Marianne Faithfull painting I did a few months ago.

The project for this new semester is so much fun! I’ll be working on 20 (or more) paintings in which I’ll recreate album covers but replace the people in them with me. So far I have one and a bunch of ideas i cannot wait to start and share. This whole self discovery journey was not something i expected from school. My teachers are great too. Im having a blast

School semester is almost over. Once it is, I will be posting my favorite outfits I’ve worn 😭🗣️🗣️

The people who had to review my work hated every single one of these, but i still like them. These are my greatest hits of the semester. I was told that they are childish, boring, not well executed and devoid any meaningful substance, which is crazy to me. I was even questioned on my quality as an artist, because I was not able to transmit anything, it was just like dumb kids tv shows. While devastated, I still like them quite a lot.
