Congratulations to SPN for making me check each creature featured in the show and getting annoyed at how misrepresented they had been.

S1 - Bugs
And so, we bring in the Native Americans to serve their purpose as a plot device for this episode. Wonderful, huzzah. (24:59-26:24, 28:14-)
“Joe White Tree” being the name for a Native American? Why the hell not name another Tiger Lily and another as Fire Flower or something? It just feels weird. But fuck it, NAs, drop in and please tell me if this is accurate? (27:15)
Typical wise mystical sayings used for Native Americans. By typical, I mean stereotypical. (28:40)
Excusing John’s abuse as a whole by just using the “He’s doing the best he can” excuse in spite of the fact that there’s literally no excuse to do abuse at all. (41:30)
Dean’s Transgressions:
Dean excusing John Winchester’s verbally abusive behaviour to Sam by claiming that Sam was out of line. (12:06-12:16)
Dean is really acting like how John would want him to act. Key among them? “How about telling him to respect his old man?” Jesus lord, that just brings back so much unpleasant memories. (23:32)
Excusing John’s abusive behaviour by talking about how John swings by Stanford every chance he could as if it absolves John of all past hurts and misdeeds. Granted, Dean was also a victim in John’s horrible parenting but lord, there’s so much things to unpack here. (24:38)
Dean shaming Sam for wanting to use a more emotionally healthy route rather than lying. (33:01)
Overall Score:
Tumblr media
Explanation:
This episode was slow, the Native Americans were portrayed in the stereotypical way they’re always portrayed, the time span of the evening spent with bugs makes zero sense since they can’t have held off that swarm for hours but somehow through the magic of plot armour they did, Dean continues to defend his abusive dad’s behaviour by making it seem that John is a swell guy with a harsh personality - that’s not good btw - and good god, the bugs just get an instant star removal for even being a thing.

S1 - Hook Man
When a girl says no, she means no. Consent is an important thing, necking each other or not, ignoring their words is just gross. (2:42-3:03)
Why did they think it was necessary to make the roommate black if they were gonna kill her off? Lord above, is it really too hard to just not do that? (16:25)
Kisses coming out of nowhere. Yeah, I’m not sure if this is a thing but this scene just rubbed me the wrong way. (27:56)
Highlights:
We have good lady friendships here where they help each other out on something as simple as dressing for parties. It’s really sweet. (0:50-1:12)
Sam has a thing for elaborate coffee orders. I feel sorry for the barista having to take the order but at the same time, it’s pretty cute. (5:25)
Dean’s Transgressions:
Dean thinking Sam believes Lori just because she’s attractive to Dean which led to him assuming that Sam is attracted to Lori as well. (11:03)
Female Objectification coming in from Dean Winchester seeing sorority girls and hoping to see a and I quote “naked pillow fight” from them. Way to respect women, Dean-o. (19:16-19:23)
Female Objectification continues. (21:36)
Dean smart shames Sam for being a diligent student. (21:41-21:49)
Dean, sweetie, maybe next time don’t call dibs on “watching the cute girl’s house” just cause boner reasons? (24:42)
Dean says so what about the fact that Lori’s dad is fornicating with a married woman as if there’s nothing wrong about that. (30:24)
Dean telling Sam to stay out of Lori’s underwear drawer like it’s Sam who spends all day gawking at women’s rears and talking about naked pillow fights. Darling, that’s projecting. (32:53)
Overall Score:
Tumblr media
Explanation:
The scene had its moments but it was slow, the history behind the Hook Man wasn’t particularly something I could get behind by. (Say it was during Puritan times or something and I might go yeah I believe that.) Let’s not even get started on the moments Dean made me go yikes along with killing off POC cause why not. All in all, this episode was something I did not miss nor would I give it a higher rating than two.

S1 - Skin
Episode opens with the victim being a helpless woman. God, this gives me so much issues.
Okay so remember how some folks seem to be pissed off about Dean telling Sam not to keep in touch with his friends? Loathe as I am to say it, I’m inclined to agree with him. Sam wants to go on a revenge quest in Jess’s name, Dean wants to hunt monsters in their father’s name. This makes them a primary target for monsters that feel slighted by them in any way and I can’t really blame Dean for just finding it easier to keep yourself unattached. Is it unhealthy and pretty awful to cut off all ties? Hell yes. Is it easier to keep yourself detached from any meaningful human relationship so as to not jeopardise the lives of others when there are vengeful bloodthirsty supernatural creatures out to get you and your family? Also yes.
Stealing evidence from a lawyer? Noble intentions or not, that’s just a big no-no that should never be done. (9:44)
Gotta love framing a POC. Like, I get it, you wanna establish bad evil bad guys being bad to POCs and other stuff - I actually highly doubt that’s your intention - but at the end of the day, our main leads are cis, straight white men and when we get a glimpse of POC rep that representation gets turned upside down or something. (12:15)
Highlights:
Dean being a fandom dork is always something I appreciate. (27:52)
Dean calling the shapeshifter a handsome devil just made me smile. (32:38)
Dean yanking off the Samulet from the shapeshifter was a nice scene to watch. (38:25)
Dean saying sorry and wanting Sam to have what Sam had wanted was also a nice sentiment. (40:21)
John’s Transgressions:
While not directly his doing, John raised Dean so that Dean felt like it was his duty to stay with John even though Dean had his own dreams he wanted to fulfil. This then led to resentment growing in Dean that Sam was brave enough - and rebellious enough - to ignore John’s revenge quest to pursue his own dream. (24:27-24:42)
John is a terrible father that ended up making his eldest son deeply dependent on John and Sam’s presences to the point that Dean sees himself as a freak and feels like everyone will eventually leave him regardless of what he does. (24:48-25:18)
Dean’s Transgressions:
After Sam talks about his old college friend Rebecca, Dean’s immediate question is if Rebecca is hot. That totally makes me comfortable to think of. /s. (3:39-3:43)
Dean proceeding to use the word “psycho”. Using a word like “psycho” is extremely damaging and hurtful to someone suffering from a mental condition, as it serves to other them as something other than normal. (9:16)
Dean wishing nothing more than for Beck to be working at Hooters. At least that much was implied which is just a Yikes™. (11:33)
While Sam is clearly bothered and upset over Rebecca’s reaction to discovering that Dean was not a detective, Dean proceeds to be insensitive to his brother’s issue. Again, I get the detachment from people for the sake of protection, but there is a line drawn and that line is right there. (18:34)
There’s just something wrong and gross about wanting to bang your baby brother’s lady friend. (25:33)
Dean goes against the plan due to sheer impatience. (34:01)

S1 - Bloody Mary
IDK maybe it’s just how I was raised along with my sisters but we aren’t the sort of friends to straight-up scare you if you believe in folklore/mythological beings/superstitious. All I’m saying is, these kids just remind me of bullies I knew all too well and that might be me projecting or I just don’t think this is funny or normal in any way. (2:34)
And helloooooo SPN/CW brand female objectification. Just what I want, thanks.
I am seeing bad acting in this episode. Donna and Lily’s actresses were okay but a lot of the others? Not so much.
Highlights:
The interaction between the sisters are very cute and actually pretty natural. (3:30)
Again, Lily and Donna’s relationship? Absolutely great and I just love this. (5:59)
Dean tells Sam that it’s not Sam’s fault that Jess died and he means it. (31:21-31:52)
Dean’s Transgressions:
Dean excusing Charlie about her telling her boyfriend to kill himself. While the boyfriend’s threat of suicide is all shades of fucked up, Charlie still did tell him to go ahead and kill himself which is not okay. (29:58)
Sam’s Transgressions:
Winning it in a poker game or not, Dean earned that money fair and square. At the end of the day, it’s not Sam’s call to make decisions about Dean’s money if Dean is so clearly against it. Yes, it helped, but maybe talk the option out first? (6:16)
Sam agreed with Dean that Charlie wasn’t at fault in regards to her boyfriend’s death. (30:01)
Overall Score:
Tumblr media
Explanation:
It didn’t make me thoroughly mad, it was also somewhat interesting so I’m quite fine with it.

S1 - Phantom Traveler
Why the hell was it necessary to use a Japanese explanation of a demon for this? Try the Lesser Key of Solomon, there are demons that bring disaster there that would have worked better. But nope, we gotta dip our filthy hands in another culture’s lore and beliefs to make our scawy plot work. (20:06-20:18)
The thing that was said where “Forty means death” isn’t really a thing? Yes, mourning is a forty-day period here in the Philippines and that forty days and forty nights were spent in Noah’s Arc, but there were some non-death-related things as well that took place with the number forty. (Source) (22:07-22:11)
So...tell me again why it takes them awhile in later seasons to figure out if someone’s possessed if demon’s flinch at the name of God? (28:33)
Highlights:
Dean is clearly proud of the fact that he made an EMF meter from an old Walkman. It’s really cute and it shows his cleverness in engineering or something of the sort. (15:25-15:31)
Dean admitting that Sam’s suggestion was a good one. I like it when due praise is given. (28:36)
Amanda talking about how everyone’s scared of something and how she’s not gonna let her own fear hold her back is something I just love so much. (29:40)
Dean’s Transgressions:
It almost had me smiling when I thought Dean was going to express open concern for Sam but instead, he changes the concern to making it Sam’s duty to keep him alive. Yes, call it banter, but at the end of the day, it would have done Sam a world of good to actually hear that his brother worries about him. (5:19-5:23)
“You can’t let it, you can’t bring it home.” That’s awful advice. Especially in a dangerous line of “profession” as hunting since unlike some jobs where you could avoid the repercussions of the day’s events, fighting monsters that are out to kill you doesn’t feel like something you could easily use the off switch on. (5:40)
Toxic masculinity. I wasn’t able to do that with Pilot even though every time Dean says “no chick flick moments” is actually a ToxMasc point but I’m starting it now. “That’s not fear, that is precaution.” This could’ve been played for laughs and all but at the end of the day, this is still bad to go like “Lol look how funny he is by denying he’s scared lolololololol” (5:58)
More ToxMasc points with the belittling of calming methods Sam’s trying. (30:41)
Sam’s Transgressions:
The condescending way Sam reacted to Dean’s proud explanation about his homemade EMF meter just rubbed me very wrong. (15:34)
The hurt on Dean’s expression is just very hard to ignore. Instead of being proud that your brother made that, you just react like he’s a weird idiot when really, making a Walkman into an EMF meter? That’s smart.
Overall Score:
Tumblr media
Explanation:
The episode wasn’t the worst and I could actually enjoy it and smile at some of the parts a lot. This is actually my favourite so far in this rewatch.

S1 - Dead in the Water
We get instant female objectification as if Sophie is working out to impress a guy when you’re free to work out if you want. (1:13)
Rubs me the wrong way that they had to kill a lady at the start but aight. The fact that they killed Sophie, who was just shamed - it comes off that way - by her brother for liking to work out is kind of even worse. (2:20)
While, again, I’m quite lax about these things, that fact that CW/SPN always has to feature women looking like they’re about to feature in an adult film - yes I know Donna exists as well but so far? She and Charlie are the only ones I could count that don’t feel objectified. (3:03)(This opinion might change if I remember more characters that aren’t making me feel like I might hear an ad to click for a “special gift”.)
Dean interacting with the kid was sweet and him playing with the toy soldiers was quite cute. (10:59)
If you want another highlight, it’s Dean’s nice speech to the kid about how he’ll believe what the kid says and also explaining how he sympathises with the kid. (11:30)
Not wholly a transgression but the statement of “Kids are strong, you’d be surprised what they can deal with” is just not the way to go about these things. Then again, the credit for that might go to John Winchester and that’s not a good thing to know. (13:34)
Andrea’s actress’ acting was….just not good. It hurts whenever she tries to do emotional scenes.
Never mind, the sheriff is also shit with his acting. It’s so wooden it’s begging to be made into a real boy.
I hate the fact that they had to make it seem like the sheriff, Jake, is among the victims when he’s the damn person that was among those responsible for the angry spirit in the first place. He was a bully that committed murder, plain and simple.
Also, can we stop with the “we can’t help but love our family” thing? There are just some things that not even family could make okay,
Not sure if this was a transgression or not but Andrea kissing Dean without a say or anything was just rubbing me wrong but again, that might just be me.
Dean’s Transgressions:
Sam clearly shows no interest in having any sexual relations/casual flings and Dean proceeds to make it sound like he’s an absolute stick in the mud.(3:15)
Though this is also during Sam’s revenge warpath and that’s another thing to consider on whether or not this should be counted as a transgression or not.
Dean is indifferent and finds it weird that people would bury an empty coffin for closure when they can’t find their loved ones’ remains. (3:46)
While Dean’s reaction to Sam’s passive-aggression, his comment about how he’s been there with John while Sam was “off to college, attending pep rallies” was just uncalled for and low-key shaming his brother for wanting a higher education. (4:14)
Dean proceeds to be creepy and ogle at a passing waitress as she passed by him. (Waitress sponsored by CW female objectification.)(4:29-4:35)
Dean’s response to meeting the sheriff’s daughter was to smile at her and look at her like a bit of a creep that wants nothing more than to have her in his bed. (7:41)
Dean referring to women as “chicks”. (11:09)
More smart-shaming from Dean. (22:06)
Sam’s Transgressions:
Sam responds to Dean’s “closure or whatever” comment with something I could imagine an edgelord would say. “cLoSuRe? WhAt ClOsUrE?”(3:51)
Sam also proceeded to scoff when he said this line.
Sam is acting passive-aggressive and low-key bratty about searching for their father just because Dean is trying to solve cases along with searching for their father. (Yes, I know he’s grieving Jess but this in no way excuses his actions and behaviour.) (3:55)
Overall Score:
Tumblr media
Explanation:
Minus the listed transgressions, I quite enjoyed the episode and seeing Dean being able to interact with kids and actually not be an ass is always something I could enjoy immensely.

S1 - W***igo
So this episode was pretty problematic by itself by involving a monster of Native American culture that shouldn’t have its name uttered so this episode is being played mute with subs only. (I’m from a superstitious family and I am not taking risks.)
The highlight at the moment is the flash of concern I saw in Dean when Sam wakes from a nightmare where he visits Jess’s grave.
Again, Dean noting the change in Sam and being reasonable is something I could get behind with.
I appreciate the guide expressing his concern for Ben even though he’s just being paid to accompany Haley and Ben to search for their brother. (15:26, 15:32)
While not a wise choice, I did smile at the M&M provisions bit cause really, it was pretty amusing. (18:49)
Kudos to Dean comforting Haley as well when she thought her brother had died. (21:26)
Kudos to Sam for also knowing when to pull the civilians away even if it feels too late. (23:13)
Is it cultural appropriation with how they shoved in some things like “Anasazi” symbols? Feel free to explain that to me please.
Sam’s concerning revenge quest aside, Dean shouldn’t really also take John’s orders anymore. He is no longer four years old in need of guidance, Then again, I’m blaming John Winchester for that. (26:38)
Dean has his moments like how when he told Sam his anger and revenge quest is not good. Though to be honest, that’s a bit hypocritical. (27:04-27:17)
Why would the creature even drop its meal on the people it’s trying to hunt? Jumpscare factor or something? (32:46)
Tommy being able to move his head up fast in spite of being injured and not having eaten in a day is pretty sus. (37:00)
While not a bad transgression, the bad CGI was….bad. (40:10)
Dean’s Transgressions:
Dean smart shames Sam for knowing a word that is actually not that uncommon to use. (14:16)
Dean’s response to Sam’s complaint about letting Haley join them in their search for her brother is to throw a bag at Sam and while it doesn’t involve punching Sam or anything, his response to an already poor response was pretty bad. (15:20)
Dean tries to quiz the guide, Roy, about hunting implying to Roy that Dean is better than Roy even though their definitions of hunts are different. (17:31)
Kinda rubs me the wrong way that Dean has to lie to every woman he meets just to get them to sleep with them.
Yes, it’s understandable he’s concerned for Sam but was it necessary to Sam’s mind as “freaky head” as if there’s something wrong or freakish going on with him? Why not just “are you okay? You’re worrying me” since not everything has to have a semi-insult cloaked in concern involved. (25:08)
Killing supernatural creatures =/= therapy, Dean. (27:50)
Dean abandoned civilians who had zero (0) knowledge of the supernatural and zero (0) abilities in fighting off the accursed monster of the week. (28:48)
Dean using “Indian” instead of Native American. (30:15)
Sam’s Transgressions:
Sam had fallen into a revenge quest where he’s acting a bit of a prat. (15:07)
And more revenge questing Sam having horse-blinders. Yes, grief is awful and gives you thoughts that would lead you to spiral at moments but this is still not okay. (25:44)
Overall Score:
Tumblr media
Explanation:
Well, the episode was pretty good even if you count the transgressions though I had to remove another star because they made use of a word that I don’t think should have been used. But again, this episode was quite enjoyable.

S1 - Pilot
Not a transgression but won’t it have hurt more if Mary was possessed instead of killed? Yeah, I know the dead mom/wife card is so easy to use but seeing someone you love lose the essence of who they are by being manipulated and controlled by something you can’t even begin to understand would hurt more plus we don’t have to fridge the woman at the very first episode. (3:16)
Something that I’m curious about from SPN folks is why must the women always be sexy. Like, it kinda looks like Jess’s sleep clothes look more fanservice-y than meant for sleep and comfort which is uhhhh kinda the point of the thing.
A highlight though is Supportive Girlfriend Jess and I just love that.
Bad acting with the guy that cheats on his girlfriend with the White Lady. (Fun fact: White Lady is a bit of a different lore kinda here in the Philippines.)
The White Lady is your basic recipe SPN Lady with the overly sexualised vibe and while I’m normally lax about these things, SPN just makes me feel weird whenever they do this.
I forgot how much I disliked Constance’s garbage bag husband’s excuse. “mAyBe I mAdE sOmE mIsTaKeS”.
I need to know the proper lore SPN set up here. Why did Constance force Sam to take her home? I thought she’s just targeting unfaithful asshats? If so, then shouldn’t she just leave Sam be? I just need more than this edgy thing SPN tried to spoonfeed me.
Also, why feel the need to punish something that doesn’t even fit into your MO and you had to sexually assault the guy just to have the perfect excuse to kill him? IDK man, lore like this peeves me.
Sexual harassment/Sexual assault to Sam is just something I can’t overlook even though I’m trying to just focus on solitary character transgressions but I just can never let that slide.
Another highlight? Best Girlfriend Jess who bakes Sam cookies because he deserves it.
Big Downside? Best Girlfriend Jess is killed for man pain reasons disguised in plot.
Dean’s Transgressions:
Breaking and entering into Sam’s place, not even bothering to try and inform Sam who he is and jumping immediately into assaulting Sam. (6:25-7:07)
Badass entry or not, that was not okay
I’m gonna count in how he’s so clearly undressing Jess with his eyes when she came in. (7:39)
Putting Sam down by saying she’s out of his league. (7:43)
Sleazy behaviour towards Jess when Jess says she’s going to get changed to look presentable for company. (7:50)
He also kinda gave off a bit of a flirting vibe which is just plain wrong.
Overall, dismissing Jess’s presence the moment he decides that it’s time to man-talk with Sam without even letting Sam have a say about this. (7:53-7:57)
The good thing is that Sam stood his ground on this moment.
Sam already said no to helping Dean try and search for John but Dean made the choice for Sam by basically implying Sam has no choice but to help. (8:35-8:38)
When Sam continues to try and put his foot down on not helping Dean, Dean proceeds to trivialise their life as hunters as “it wasn’t easy, but it wasn’t that bad.” (8:53)
Dean dismissing that the right way to respond to children being scared of monsters under their beds isn’t by giving them a gun but to actually comfort the child when Sam is clearly upset by that memory while Dean acts like their father’s decision was the better choice. (9:00, 9:05-9:09)
When Sam asked if their mother would have wanted this life for them, Dean responds by basically doing the equivalent of slamming the door when proven wrong. (9:26)
Dean belittles Sam’s decision and desire to live a normal life by making a “normal, apple pie life” sound like a stupid thing to want. (9:34-9:39)
Dean belittles Sam’s desire for a safe life by equating it to cowardice. (9:42)
Low-key guilting Sam into feeling like he has to go with Dean to search for John. (10:05)
Something that rubbed me the wrong way was the way Dean snatched the file back from Sam before Sam could even peruse its contents. If you want/need your brother’s help then shouldn’t he have the same information you do? (10:59)
Dean kind of does this thing where he tells Sam how he’s never asked for a thing just to make it seem like Sam now has to pay him back for what is meant to be an act of common decency. (11:55-12:00)
Dean dismisses the importance of Sam’s upcoming interview as if it’s not worth going to. (12:22)
Not really giving Sam a choice about something as simple as music while making it sound like it’s fair. (18:29)
Dean dismissed Sam expressing his discomfort about being called “Sammy”. (18:38)
Dean acting like Sam is being weird instead of just going for a different way about Sam’s explanation on how pentagrams work. (e.g. Explaining Sam might have had a “case” where he had to dive in and research about these kinds of stuff.) (22:20)
Dean’s response to Sam offering to try his hand at searching for clues is by hitting his brother and claiming he’s “got it” as if he doesn’t even want Sam’s help Even though he said he wants/needs Sam’s help in the damn beginning of the episode. When Sam takes charge of the clue-checking, Dean responds by hitting him again. (23:16-23:22)
Dean refers to Constance’s suicide as a “swan dive”. Kinda trivialises it. (24:10)
Shrugging off the importance of Sam’s priorities after Sam reminds him about the interview he had coming up on Monday. (24:34)
The way he words things with “Does Jessica know everything about you like the things you’ve done” or something was just rubbing me the wrong way. It’s really the tone he’s used for that. Like Sam has no right to a happy life if Jess doesn’t know the truth. (Though it is important that Jess learn the truth, that does not mean Sam’s right to a happy life is revoked.)
This was just ironic seeing as that’s kinda a pot calling a kettle black. (46:25)
Dean tells Sam that Sam has no choice but to accept that the truth is that he’s just like Dean and John in that they’re hunters and that’s the only life Sam gets to live. (24:50)
Dean makes it seem like Sam has a duty to serve to the world as a hunter when this duty was nonexistent in the first place and was thrust upon him and Dean when they were little and couldn’t even make a choice for themselves. (25:00)
Instead of reacting by snapping at Sam, Dean’s go-to reaction was to basically intimidate his brother by grabbing his shirt and shoving him against the bridge railing. (Not sure if that’s the word.) While understandable, in no way is Dean’s reaction excusable. (25:15)
Dean acts surprised as if this case should have been enough to get Sam to give up the interview Sam had been constantly telling Dean about. (42:34)
In response to Sam reminding Dean that he really plans on going to the interview, Dean’s response is to speak in a passive-aggressive tone. (42:42)
Instead of wishing Sam luck for the interview or even expressing how much he missed spending time with his brother, or again, wishing Sam luck for the interview, Dean proceeds to speak about the hunt as if trying to convince Sam that hunting is the life he was meant for. (43:23)
John’s Transgressions:
Giving Sam an ultimatum regarding Sam’s choices and implying that Sam is no longer part of the family if he has plans of leaving to start a life of his own. (9:49)
Not finishing that damn burger. Don’t waste food, man. That’s just awful and a damn sin.  (27:54)
Sam’s Transgressions:
Not telling Jess where he’s going and just being vague about things/lying about the truth. (13:26)
Sam makes fun of Dean’s music taste. (18:17)
Sam shoves Dean in response to Dean’s refusal to his help. (23:18)
While valid, Sam was quite indifferent to the poor grieving process Dean and John has and kinda waves off the importance this has to John and Dean. (This however in no way validates neither Dean’s reaction nor John’s revenge quest.) (25:10)
Overall Score:
Tumblr media
Explanation:
The episode wasn’t the most enjoyable in regards to the sexualisation (in regards to Jess and Constance Welch), Sam’s sexual assault, unclear lorework, Dean’s behaviour and the occasional subpar acting. Though some scenes did give me a laugh or two and seeing Jess be a good person is always something I like.

Greetings
This was originally meant to be an anti-dean winchester blog inspired by @deantransgressions and @deantransgressions2 but then I realised that SPN has so much to be picked apart that I figured that while I do love the series, I might as well pick apart the many things that might have raised a red flag for me or rubbed me the wrong way.
This means I’ll be rewatching all seasons and all episodes, analysing them to the best of my abilities while I try to understand each character the best I could. This is also going to have mini reviews and ratings just for the fun of it. If you want transgression free episode, just type in transgression free in the tag search!
Time stamps will be based on the streaming service I’m using so this might not be entirely accurate to your streaming services.
My main blog will not be revealed until later.
Starting S1 on October 27, 2020
