Kassidas AU where...
When Alexiod is thrown off Mount Taygetos, Kassandra somehow manages to catch him and get him healed with Myrinne (don’t ask me how, I honestly don’t know myself). So obviously they know about the Cult (Chrysis fails to kidnap Alexios because even kid Kass can recognize a cultist when she sees one) and Myrinne has to leave her children and draw away Kosmos’s attention from them. She meets this nice (though shady) man from a small island of no interest who accepts to take them in and raise them. That is how Kassandra and baby Alexios are raised by Markos on Kephallonia. Kass gets the misthios training and so does Alexios who wants to be as badass as his big sister.
They become (in)famous for being the most efficient duo of mercenaries and finally leave the island. They settle somewhere (I like Corinthia or Ellis, somewhere somewhat neutral to the raging conflict between Sparta and Athens). They keep contact with Myrinne obviously and Kass helps Pythagoras close the gate to Atlantis while Alexios begins his first solo misthios contract (before, he had to always be with his sister so she could make sure he was out of trouble ready to go solo one day. Kass goes to investigate on the Monger when asked by Anthousa while Alexios meets with a Spartan general in Phokis who asks him to take the land from Athens. They win and Alexios is asked to meet the famous Wolf of Sparta (Stentor his adoptive son is absolutely not jealous). Nikolaos is fascinated by this young man with a Kelphalonnian accent fighting like a Spartan but who has his facial structure and the eyes of the woman he loved but ultimatly gave up for his country. He is all the more interested by this mercenary’s sister who is often compared to goddesses such as Athena, Artemis or, according to both genders, Aphrodite. Regardless of what is good for him, Nikolaos asks Alexios (he knows it is his son but doesn’t want to scare him because of a hunch) to present him his sister, the great Eagle Bearer.
The three of them go back to Corinthia but Kassandra is on a lead about an artefact in Krete and « will come back soon. Maybe. Be careful little brother and keep an eye on the Monger, will you ? Do not engage, he is trouble and someone else is onto him. Trust me on this. » So Alexios learns to get to know this glorious general of Sparta and his not at all jaleous son. They get on well until Anthousa asks for their help with the Monger. Nikolaos meets with Brasidas (because Sparta’s finests keep in touch) and they think of a way to take down the Monger (« quietly damnit Anthousa it is for the good of Corinthia ! ») however they don’t act right away because Kass called dibs on him and tracked a henchman confirming his link to Kosmo. In the mean time they do all the side quest helping the population and Alexios quite like this Brasidas fella who knows how to use his spear and his shield.
During her preliminary investigation Kassandra met this smoking hot general of Sparta who she totally banged (because why not) and asked him to not act before she dealt with a personal quest and found proof of the Monger’s link with the Cult. All of this leads to Kassandra asking Alexios to meet her with Myrinne so they can finally tell him that he was supposed to become some obscure secret society’s weapon sent by the gods but they rescued him and now Kosmo wants them dead. And we get cute reunion between mother and children, tense (oh boy she is so pissed at him) between Kassandra and Nikolaos (“but my new brother is kinda nice even if he sometimes acts like a jerk”) and sexual tension but also so much chemistry between Kassidas and also shock and anger because Alexios discovers that his new bff banged and want to keep banging his big sister who is too cool for anyone.
Anyway they all learn how to become one big family between some assholes wanting the chosen ones dead, Kassandra having to search artifacts for Pythagoras, spartans finests having to bust the cultist king, the needs for somes to maim others and Athenians’ habit to overthink things making them awkward (either Alkibiades wanting to tap that spartan ass (Alexios, Stentor, Brasidas or Kassandra or all four of them, he is not picky) or Sokrates debating on war and democracy and laws with Nikolaos).
I might write it one day but if someone wish to they can absolutely exploit this idea.
