1) I've seen this attempted like 10 times in the last decade and the only time it's ever worked is with Tumblr to get most NSFW content off the site . And even then it was specifically because people posted outright CP, which got Apple to crack down on them. Tumblr didn't have the money to fight this case and was forced to either oblige or shutdown due to financial reasons.
2) This was actually cased by the release of a game called "No Mercy" which specifically stated, in the description, that the players would be forced to violently rape women after intoxicating or blackmailing them.
This wasn't something like Fear & Hunger where upon falling assaulted, your character can get sexually assaulted as an alternative to death.
Firstly, in the case of Fear & Hunger, the sexual violence isn't sexualized at all, it's treated as the horrific act it is. When it happens, you usually can't just get back up, it's a traumatic experience that leaves your character both physically broken and mentally unwell, very much mirroring the real world experience.
And I'm speaking from the experience of having been a victim of violent sexual assault. There is no value in content like "No Mercy" and there should be policing around that kind of content.
3) Itch.io has handled this pretty well, haven't looked into Steam yet (I assume they'll just go back to the way they were before with no NSFW content).
Itch released a document outlining what they can't sell and include links to the payment processors they support for further exploration.
https://itch.io/docs/creators/faq#is-adult-content-allowed
The reason they've delisted NSFW games (which really just means they won't show up in searches and need a link to access) is because they trust that people won't post shit like "No Mercy" to their website as they have rules explicitly against it (see above link, those rules have been there for a while). They don't know how many games are violating their rules as it's it's unlikely all of them have been flagged. Removing all NSFW content from searches allows them to sort through the content to ensure nobody's doing what "No Mercy" did.
4) In conclusion
I've yet to see anything proving that LGBTQ+ people are being specifically targeted. Unless you're talking about the extreme fetishes because can we please separate fetishes from sexual orientation and gender identity? Like, I don't really like being associated with people into ageplay or getting literally shit on while having sex.
I have, however, seen proof that pedophiles and potential rapists are being targeted. Also people with shit and piss fetishes, but I'm also honestly fine with that stuff being removed. I get people have fetishes but that should be left for yourself or commissions from people interested in doing them.
Still do what you're doing, we need to ensure that Collective Soul and groups like them can't just police media, but what a lot of these payment processors are asking for isn't that ridiculous.
It's a slippery slope in both directions.

there's also the 'being tired and depressed because I can't find work' getting in the way of 'pursuing my artistic hopes and dreams'
I'm finally forcing myself to stop procrastinating and just commit to content creation because if I can't find better work I may as well do something I actually enjoy doing in my off time.
this 'being really tired after work' thing is really getting in the way of this 'pursuing my artistic hopes and dreams' thing has anyone else noticed this

I don't think I mentioned this, but my bio-dad actually thought like this and it's the reason both my brother and I have abandonment trauma.
Granted, I only saw him every second weekend, but he was never present with either of us unless we were drinking around a fire or at a bar with him and my stepmom.

Okay but I genuinely use dude and guys as general terms when referring to a person and group of people respectively.
Call me a girly-pop all you want though, 'tis good for my dysphoria.
'dude, guy, and man are gender neutral' boys getting upset at me when i refer to them as 'girly pops'

Yeah... I don't just TikTok either because a lot of the straight people I know, including my bio father, act like this.
I was literally told "you may be my son but she's my wife" when referring to my step-mom (at the time, Neil's not legally my father anymore).

When I say I'm a gypsy I mean by blood. I don't view the word as an insult unless it's used in a derogatory fashion.
Because of my nomadic gypsy ancestry I likely have an entire smorgasbord of genealogy from throughout the entirety of Europe and Asia. This is heavily overpowered by the fact that the other 3 quarters of my DNA are Alps German, English and Scottish.
My maternal Grandfather's genealogy test literally came back with an assorted section because there were so many sources that pointed to various parts around the world, even outside of Europe and Asia. If there was a land-bridge to said continent, my family was there.
The oldest documentation we have of our family on his side is of his maternal grandparents when they were in their 30s from the 1890s. My great great grandfather was Cossack and dressed in traditional garb, my great great grandmother was dressed almost stereotypically like a gypsy, head dress with jewlery hanging from it, a shawl, and of course the extravagant yet flowy dress. He was following direction and looking very serious in the photo while she leaned, head pressed on his shoulder, smiling an open mouthed smile, genuinely happy.

Yeah... I totally agree that evil characters doing evil things does not make the writer evil.
Sorry for the long post btw
The primary villain of my dark high fantasy novel, Ellywyn, is an unseelie fae queen (from a hermaphoditic race, their language only has one pronoun) who took the main character, Margaret, as her wife for a few hundred years because she thought Margaret was pretty. Like any other arrange marriage, sex and procreation was expected, regardless of Margaret's own wants. Most of the time Ellywyn would go the seduction route, shower with gifts and manipulate Margaret into wanting to have sex with her without any real pressure. It was a consensual choice in those situations. But she'd use mind controlling magic to force it if she wasn't into to putting in the effort during a particular week. She doesn't view this as rape, it's a gift she's giving and if it ends in procreation Margaret has the honour of baring her child. She even gave Margaret some of her own blood through magical experimentation, giving her regenerative abilities similar to Captain Jack Harkness from Doctor Who so she'd be "forever beautiful and unscarred." When Ellywyn would get drunk, things often turned violent and she would take advantage of this regenerative ability. That last part is never shown, just mentioned in a conversation with a villian-turned-ally who was serving Ellywyn.
How I'm not a rapist because I write one as my primary antagonist:
TL;DR - I am a rape victim, I just needed to finally share the story for my own mental health
The story is told from Margaret's point of view. And though I'm a biological male, I am also a rape victim. It was my best friend who'd been a friend with benefits about 6 months before, I cut it off because she was getting too attached). I was taken advantage of while I was drunk, still conscious enough to remember foggy details but too inebriated to consent.
Even if you don't consider taking advantage of somebody while they're very drunk rape (which it is) this next part is irrefutably rape.
I sobered up at the end when she wrapped her legs around me and held my arms down when I tried to pull out. I'd agreed to unprotected, vaginal sex during a small blip in consciousness as I was falling asleep. I tried to fight it off but I was too drunk and sore from work the day before that I couldn't actually stop it.
A couple days later I realized what happened and cut conversation as much as I could. A week and a half after that she told me she was pregnant. I spent a month stressing out about having to raise the product of my rape because she was refusing to put the child up for adoption. 2 weeks after that she miscarried.
I shouldn't have stayed friends with her but she was my only friend at the time (I have vastly more now, I'm a much healthier person now).
After a while she went off her schizophrenia medication.
The way I've described the next bit to people is that my life was like a mixture of the relationship in Joker (from the woman's perspective) and Baby Reindeer (which I had to stop watching because it was so intensely triggering, it's the only time a series has triggered legitimate anxiety for me).
She seemed stable with the medication for a while because she'd been hallucinating a relationship with me for 2 years. The fact that I would hang out with her from time to time probably only served to make those hallucinations more real.
Then she got aggressive about wanting to have sex. At this point I felt like if I didn't, something bad would happen to me, like I'd end up in a ditch. So I would, but I'd never finish. I cut it off about 4 months before our "friendship" ended.
She'd called me to talk during lunch (we'd often talk on the phone) and I was talking about this person I'd started talking to regularly at the bar, she started getting a bit jealous. I reminded her we were just platonic friends. She lost her shit and "broke up with me." I watched over my shoulder for a year after.
Margaret's emotions around her experience with Ellywyn has been my way to process my emotions around a similar experience. Margaret hates Ellywyn but has these fond memories of her that aren't erased, just tarnished, by the horrible experiences.

It's not from a BBC Radio 4 Interview but from an interview with the Sunday Herald in Scotland from May 21, 2000 written by Rowling herself and edited by Sydney Carton.
What's worse is the next paragraph after the one that's usually quoted, where she explains why she thinks it's a "great and tragic love story."
"For those very few people who do not know the story, Humbert Humbert, a fortyish man, abducts the 12-year-old Lolita, who escapes him at the age of 15 for another abuser. Humbert catches up again with her when she is 20, married, poor and heavily pregnant, and he recognises at last that his obsession with her has transcended the physical, when it is too late to repair either of their lives."
I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and assume her media literacy is so low that it wasn't obvious Delores is happy with her husband but because we're experiencing the story through Humbert's perspective, it seems like she's miserable and simply settling for what she can get. Because that's far better than an ex-elementary teacher rooting for the nonce to reconcile with his victim.
But wait... she didn't just call it a tragic drama did she? Nope! She called it a "great and tragic LOVE STORY."
The tragic ending to this "love story" is that the "lovers" don't reconcile. It's that there's no happy ending for poor old Humbert Humbert.
For those of you who haven't read the novel, or can't get through it because it's a very disturbing and uncomfortable novel, Lolita ends with Humbert facing trial for his crimes and likely not having the luckiest of time due to their horrid nature.
Thank you for staying with me while I explored this because holy fuck... Jesus Christ Rowling...

Based on an interview she had with Radio 4 in 2000.
She calls transgender people groomers. She studied literature at a university level. She had to know what Lolita was actually about. She taught children professionally.
Here's a haiku:
What the fuck Joanne?
She was only 12, Joanne.

Seeing as she's starting to break into acting, I'll say it. From a purely appreance stand point, she'd be amazing casting (haven't actually seen her acting yet, so I'll speak on that after I watch a bit of it).

Look, my character is 10 and that hiker is some 6 foot tall, heavy set, dude approaching me in a dark cave and then asking me for a Pokémon battle. he throws out two spherical and one snake-like Pokémon. And worse yet, because of the 4x weakness to water, one of the two best way to defeat him is to get his rocks and snake wet.
Hiker Marcos is specifically creepy. That there's self-defense.

i was playing pokemon blue on stream earlier at 350% speed and i got to thinking
what if the reason nobody in the pokemon world has any good teams is because its considered a dick move to have a proper team comp
like culturally everyone is like “haha pick the pokemon you want! if you’re happy with three geodudes, thats you and your life!” and then you’re supposed to just have a friendly battle with any other pokemon trainers and whatever pokemon they just happen to have
like the average trainer is probably just walking around with a growlithe because that’s their pet, or a hiker has three geodudes because the geodudes help him with hiking. and if this pet owner and geodude hiker meet, you’re supposed to have a friendly battle but nothing too serious
now imagine the 10 year old kid that has six pokeballs on their belt comes up. you’re like “haha, we’ll have a friendly battle!” and you throw out your geodude
and they throw out a fucking gyarados, and it one-shots your geodude
and then you throw out your pidgey you have because the pidgey helps you navigate mountains because you’re a hiker
and then electricity crackles around the gyarados and a thunderbolt flies off of this giant dragon and evaporates your pidgey
so you’re down to your last pokemon. you tell them you’re gonna send out your bulbasaur. the ten year old is like “oh okay in that case i’m gonna pull out my vulpix.” like not only is this kid walking around with an amped-up super dragon, but theyve also got multiple pokemon specifically for making type advantage counter-picks?
this kid’s a fucking asshole! really, kid? what are you trying to prove here? this is a friendly match between strangers for fun! why are you composing real-ass competitive teams? what a fucker!

I feel like I need to actually write that romance between my two immortal characters (one with deadpool-like regeneration, the other the daughter of an elder god and a dragon) who can only meet on the harvest moon due to the space between the planes thinning.
I've had a lot of conversations lately about what's lacking in cosy fantasy and romantasy, and the general consensus is that it boils down to being written like fanfiction.
Fanfiction is an entirely different beast than published fiction. Your reader is already invested in the characters, and you don't need to sell them on anything to get them to read it. And that's great! That's the beauty of fanfiction! You should write that if it is your true passion!
Cosy fantasy and romantasy that has no fucking plot whatsoever argh often skips the step of getting you invested in the characters. You're already supposed to be into the "hot mysterious baddie" trope, therefore there's no effort being made to make you interested in this particular hot dude. Female leads are interchangeable. What were they like growing up? What are their morals? Who cares, let them fuck.
Don't get me started on DnD-lite books that rely on you being familiar with DnD to do the world-building for you. First of all, this is boring as all hell. If you're not willing to world-build, you're not going to give us a good story. Second of all, DnD can be a great world-builder, and everyone not taking advantage of that is just being lazy. If you have orcs in your damn book, I want you to tell me what that means. I shouldn't have to flip through a source book to understand the conflict you're setting up goddamnit!
And listen, you can say queer cosy fantasy/romantasy fixes this problem, and I can promise you it doesn't. Some of it is better, but the vast majority is still written for tropes and nothing more. Please, I am begging you, you need more than tropes to write a good book. You need to actually convince us, the reader, to care about these characters as much as you do. That means letting them make mistakes. That means they have to have real problems that aren't solved by the power of love, but by confronting their own flaws. You cannot do this if your characters don't actually have flaws.
I cannot wait for this trend to die.
