one thing that really frustrates me that i think gets lost in the “is fanfic literature?” and “how has fanfic affected contemporary literature/publishing and is that a good thing?” debates is that the publishing industry has basically taken ao3 tag culture and transformed it into how they choose to publish + market a lot of books. like………..the fact that actual books being put out by major publishers will be advertised as like “dark academia vampire wlw enemies-to-lovers angst redemption arc with found family” is CRAZY to me bc in my mind, a) that language belongs to a very specific culture and genre of internet-based writing that doesn’t really make sense outside of its VERY specific context, b) these tropes have basically been reduced to marketing terms and don’t mean anything within a larger narrative arc, and c) you may as well let an algorithm write these fucking novels bc it’s literally just copying and pasting different tropes together with the idea that if you put all the most popular tropes in one narrative, that narrative will somehow be the best/most profitable one which is NOT HOW ART WORKS!!!!!

this morning the United Nations Human Rights Council voted on a resolution calling for a ban on arms sales to Israel and the resolution passed. two Israeli border points opened for aid routes (they were supposedly open? lmao), Biden is calling for an immediate ceasefire, last night was the first without air attacks on Gaza.. the killing of seven foreign aid workers shook the world apparently, but oh god how late. the journey to recognising genocide for some seems to avoid acknowledging the humanity of thousands of Palestinians who have been murdered
