NEW FIND: Anglo-Saxon coin with a "Valknut", dated to the 7th century, pre-dating the Viking era and therefore disproving the claim that the pagan symbol was unknown in Britain prior to the Vikings.
It could be the oldest Anglo-Saxon coin ever found. Some are saying the figure wields a Christian cross over the Valknut, a pagan symbol, and that would seem to indicate a representation of Christian faith beating Paganism.
Alternatively, it is an expression of the religious pluralism of a transitionary dual faith period when both religions were practised by the English. The Valknut does seem much more prominent than the cross on that side, and the other side has a Christian cross which is sort of arranged in the shape of a Swastika, which was a symbol of the god Woden.
We know from Bede that a king who lived in East Anglia, where this coin was found, around the same time it was made, practised dual faith, keeping an idol of Jesus next to those of the English gods. So this seems plausible…

I spent half a month working on a cruise ship, travelling around Norway and the Scottish islands. Part 1 of my Hyperborean Odyssey is in Western Norway, beginning with the ancient burial grounds of Gunnarshaug and Rehaugane near Norway's Viking capital Avaldsnes, then admiring the fjords around Ulvik and Olden and finishing off in the rainy city of Alesund. This is a historical travel series.

“Bytuene Mersh ant Aueril, When spray biginneth to springe, The lutel foul hath hire wyl On hyre lud to synge. Ich libbe in loue-longinge For semlokest of alle thynge; He may me blisse bringe; Icham in hire baundoun. ______________ Between March and April, when the blossom begins to spring, the little bird takes its pleasure in singing in its own language. I live in love-longing for the loveliest of all things. She can bring me to bliss; I am in her power.”

Easter was originally the name of a pagan Anglo-Saxon goddess, known as Ēostre is the Saxon dialect of Old English and as Ostara in Old High German. Christian Sloan Hall has depicted her here as a goddess of the dawn, because her name is cognate with the names of dawn goddesses from other Indo-European religions such as the Hindu Ushas or the Roman Aurora. You can learn more in this video about her

In chapter 45 of the saga of Grettir the strong, Þorbjörn knocks loudly on the door at Atli’s farm, then hid. When Atli opens the door, Þorbjörn rushed up holding his spear in two hands and ran Atli through. When he took the blow, Atli said, “Long spears are now in fashion” and then died.
This bizarre Viking humour reminds me of a Monty Python sketch. I was suprised when I recognised an obscure reference to the saga while watching one of my favourite films, Aguirre; The Wrath of God by Werner Herzog (see image). I later learned that Herzog is a fan of medieval Icelandic literature.
