Minimalist design how I like it. “Re-thinking Space” is just brilliant as a slogan, too.

Why I concentrate on sustainable webdevelopment
It’s no secret that the web is becoming faster every day. But it’s all relative since our internet connections have become faster, too. So, in reality, most of our progress related to the WWW is an illusion. The future looks grim if we continue with this trend.
Sustainability and webdevelopment are a tight fit and I intend to make the philosophy of sustainable web solutions a trend and a standard. At least when dealing with my own clients I want to do everything in my power (fueled by 10+ years of professional web experience) to provide my clients with excellent websites that last longer than just a few months until a WordPress plugin update breaks the database...
Webdevelopment is a passion and concentrating on sustainability is a neccessity going forward in the 21st century.

Sustainability: Reduction of costs of running a WordPress blog
On Quora I found an interesting question: “How can you reduce the costs of running a WordPress blog?”
I tried to answer as bluntly as possible. These are my key points:
Auditing the blog with the Lighthouse benchmark by Google is the most important part. A fast, responsive site is what Google is looking for right now. UX is becoming more and more important and concentrating on the UI alone doesn’t cut it anymore.
You’ll probably realize that there are way too many plugins installed that are bringing your blog to a crawl. Uninstall them and make great content. Nobody cares about your shiny sidebar with buttons all over the place, because on mobile devices the sidebar is pushed below the main content.
Developing a strategy for the years to come is important so that you can adapt quickly and accordingly if anything changes in the blog landscape

What does sustainable webdev even mean?!
It means to look out for three parties in the process: the client, the developer, the world.
All three are of course connected somehow, so it makes sense to focus on sustainability not only in the “real world” but also in the virtual reality.
Sustainable webdevelopment is not a cash-grab method but rather about building a longterm relationship with your client, based on trust and mutual understanding of the necessity to invest into a sustainable future.

My linux gossip publications in 2020
Going forward, I want to contribute more news pieces to my (relatively) new Medium.com publication: https://medium.com/linux-gossip
It’s refreshing to write about something else than sustainable webdevelopment and accessible design. Also, it has been a plan for years.
In my webdevelopment work as a freelancer I use mostly free and open source software. It’s not just about being cheap or frugal but about freedom.
Whenever I can and if it’s the right choice, I try to convince my clients to explore open source opportunities. Most of the time it starts with the introduction to Linux-based operating systems.
For 2020 I pledge to write daily for my new publication and I plan to add more value to it by enhancing the articles posted. It’s not really a news site, after all. It’s too opinionated for that :)
