Derek had seemingly found himself lost. The young prince knew for a fact that he wasn't in his own Kingdom anymore, and he might have stood out in his royal attire as he tried to find his way around, find out where he was or well... anything really.

The Prince would often take walks through the forest. It helped to clear his mind when times were difficult and the forest itself was generally a peaceful place. He enjoyed taking walks through it when he could, but no matter how peaceful he still carried his bow and arrow. With talks of a beast called the great animal all over the Kingdom and neighboring ones, one could never be too careful, especially not since Princess Odette had been kidnapped — kidnapped, he was sure it was just that, she was still alive! — and her father killed. He started to get lost in thought, but his guard was quick to go back up when he thought he'd heard movement around him.

With the Kingdom seemingly calm, and his duties done for the day Derek had ventured out into the forest. He'd ended up quite the ways from the palace but that was fine, he enjoyed the peace and quiet of the forest. Even if it was quiet however, Derek had his bow and arrows. One could never be too careful, not when there were talks of something called the "great animal" getting more and more popular among the people. There had to be something to it, right?

Derek soon made himself comfortable in a clearing within the forest. If he was ever stressed about something, walks through this place tended to help. As far as he was aware, he was alone as well. No one really came out here too much...

Derek was often at the library when he wasn't home. It was a place he found truly relaxing and enjoyable where others might find it boring. Give him a cup of tea and a good book and he was set.

He was going through different sections at the library today, trying to find something that caught his interest, but nothing did yet and he'd read a few books in this section already.

She would never begrudge him the time he spent devoted to their Kingdom . The people needed the reassurance of the Royal family , what with all that had transpired as of just a few weeks . Though she did miss him , she had readily made work of her own in his absence . Spending time with the children in the village at their school , speaking to the locals about their day to day chores and how she could help alleviate some of their troubles politically and in person . She hadn’t even need for an escort , although with the unrest these days … perhaps it wasn’t such a terrible idea .  

❝ What’s gotten into you guys ? ❞ she asked as they ushered her into the room , insistent that she just had to come to the great hall instead of going for her morning ride .   ❝ I don’t understand just what it is — ❞ And that was when she saw him . Hadn’t he business to attend to today? She was most confused .  

❝ What’s going on ? ❞ At last , she couldn’t bear the suspense anymore .                                                      

            ❝ Derek ? ❞ 

He perked up almost immediately when the door opened and there she was. It may not have been that long since he’d been with her but with all the work he’d been doing lately and making sure their Kingdom stayed safe it had felt like much longer. Today they’d hopefully have all day and night without interruptions. A day just for them. At least that’s what the Prince had planned.

“Oh Odette. I’m sorry things have been keeping me away but today, today’s going to be different.” He walked over to her, gently taking her hands into his own. "Today is going to be a day just for us. I've got today off—" And as far as Derek was aware, the last day or so the Kingdom had been relatively quiet. So that shouldn't be a problem. "—and to celebrate, I thought we could go on a carriage ride around the Kingdom." That wasn't all he had planned of course, but he wanted that to remain a surprise.

Derek had been slowly getting busier and unfortunately it was rather soon after they got married. There just seemed to be a lot of trouble happening in the kingdom as of late, and Derek wasn't sure why but he couldn't just leave the people in need... even if it happened to keep him away from Odette as a result.

The last few days had seemed to be oddly quiet however, and Derek was going to take advantage of that. He'd planned a surprise date for him and Odette in an attempt to make up for his absence. He'd taken the entire day to plan everything. Everything from a carriage ride around the Kingdom to  a nice dinner with their favorites. He was sure she'd love it, he wanted everything to be perfect. In keeping it a surprise, he'd even asked her new small friends to keep it hush hush, but just to bring her by that morning.

"I got to ask. What else is there? What else is there that you like that girl besides her beautiful face? Hmm?"

He'd been so stupid back then, he knew that now. Even if he couldn't quite form it into words to describe just how much more there was to Odette and that was why he loved her, he still knew and felt it. "Well for one she's smart, she's kind, she’s brave and I know she’d do anything to help her friends or anyone in need. There's more to her than just her beauty!"
