Hi!! I recently rediscovered this if and I'm so happy to see that it's still being worked on! This is actually one of the first ifs I've ever read and I'm so excited to see where it will go. I'm already in love with Odile but I bet Chapter 1 will make me love Leir too >< That's all, I hope you're doing well! <3
HI sorry for the late reply but thank you so much for your kind words and hope you're doing well too 💕 I'm always so happy when people say they already love Odile because the prologue is fairly short and not focused on characters interaction so it means a lot that xe ended up being well-liked just from that... Ngl one of the things that's been slowing me down so much while writing the update is that I worry I won't do Leir justice when presenting their character, but I'm still excited to share them 🙏

ATTENTION SUGARCUBE AUTHORS
SugarCube has just updated to 2.37. This update includes a lot of fixes for macros and code, as well as NEW macros and a whole change of the Save API (really good one!!). The complete changelog can be found here.
Click the first link to download the last version of SugarCube format. If you don't want to wait for Twine to update with SG 2.37 (which should happen soon), check out this tutorial to find where to add the updated format.

Swansong is actually one of the first IFs I ever followed and I’m still really excited for it. I only ever unfollow IF blogs when they’ve had no activity for 6+ months.
Thank you so much, that's so nice 💕
I often forget about the passage of time so sometimes IF update after 2 years and I'm like, oh, dope ok let's go! There's only a couple authors I follow who have regular update schedules anyway, so I just check on the blogs only occasionally.

Will the really big or important famous scenes from the ballet be included in your story? Like the shooting the swan scene for example. Also how do you go about adapting the ballet or taking inspiration from it in your own writing?
Yes and no! As in, something like the shooting scene will be present, but not necessarily happen exactly as in the original, and the same will go for other famous scenes. The reasons for the changes might vary, but I would say that the biggest one is that while my characters fill existing roles in the story, they don't have much in common with their ballet counterparts besides the general narrative; ballet is a different mean so the characters of Swan Lake did not have to be developed. But because I'm writing a story that entirely rests on Leir/ MC/ Odile they had to become characters who could 'stand on their own'. Because of that some original scenes would not make sense for them, at least not as they were (said shooting the swan scene, for example).
And as for how I go about adapting MM a good question, not sure I have a process tbh. I use the original as the skeleton of the story, keeping in mind other popular adaptations as well (Swan Princess above all) and then I change what I feel wouldn't be fun to write. In the original, Odile had an important role, but was not an important character; she was used by Rothbart, willing or not, and her role began and ended with impersonating Odette and seducing Siegfried. That's not something I would have enjoyed writing, but the idea of a character being used as a tool of revenge by someone who was supposed to care for them was appealing to me, so that's what I went with instead. So yeah ahah it's pretty much just a "take what you like and leave what you don't" kind of approach!

Sorry if this is a rude question but I'm so hooked onto your story and excited to see where it goes, do you know when the next update to your demo will be and what it will entail?
Not rude at all, I'm glad you're enjoying the story! I'm very sorry about the wait-- I'm well aware that it's been literally years since the demo and as a reader I would've lost hope. I started the story when I was in a very stable place in my life and the writing started going surprisingly fast, and I guess I got too optimistic because soon after I entered my flop era 😅 I'm trying my best to work hard on the story whenever I have free time, but because I've been changing jobs (and work hours) frequently I really can't give you a timeline 😔
I plan on posting chapter 1 after I've already written a bit of chapter 2, to make sure the wait doesn't stretch too long next time; as for what it will include, chapter 1 aka the next update will be a flashback chapter; it will be set years before the prologue. It includes Leir and MC's reunion and MC's abduction while they travel to the royal palace for the wedding... it's really focused on Leir and how they used to interact with the MC in the past; I won't make promises but if possible I'd like to add a little Odile scene at the end of it.

Will we get to see the white swan's family in this story? Also will Rothbart's motives for turning people into animals be explored in this story? And also I wanted to ask when this story is taking place actually because the prince/princess/heir is already betrothed to the white swan but the white swan is already under the spell and can be friends with Odile too so I'm a little confused about the timeline sorry.
Hello there! MC's family is introduced via flashback; I don't currently have plans to have them reappear in 'present' days but we'll see. Rothbart motives will definitely be explored, yes!
And as for the timeline-- it's definitely confusing right now because of the lack of content past the demo, especially if you go through the blog. I quickly threw this together to make it clearer (keeping in mind that the timeline itself is loose because not everyone headcanons the MC to be the same age):
So the story is mostly set in that last bit, except from chapter 1 (which will be in the next update) that is the 'flashback' chapter and will span from Leir's return for the impending wedding to MC's abduction! *Ch.1 is also the chapter where you get to influence MC and Leir's past relationship, whether they were friends or rivals, lovers or exes... Regardless of how they feel about each other though, they have been betrothed since they were kids and didn't have much of a say in that. Hopefully this cleared things up 😊

Hi! Just started playing, wanted to give a heads-up that the image in the side-bar in game appears to be broken (I'm talking about the image right above the words "A Swan lake interactive novel").
Thanks for letting me know! It's likely to stay like that until the next update, since the UI was remade from scratch, but I'll look into it if I get some extra time 👍

Hi! About the poly it's going to be a triad (everyone is in love with everyone) a V ( the ROs are friends and both of them love and are in a relationship with MC) or we'll be a or to decide?
Hi!! It's going to be strictly a triad/thruple. As I haven't gotten that far yet I'm unsure, it might be possible for MC to 'speed things up' between Leir and Odile or not; but regardless of how quickly, they will always end up having feelings for each other as well as for the MC!

Hi! I really liked the demo (a very interesting concept and I can’t wait to read more from you!), I was wondering if there is a poly option?
Hi there, thank you so much!! There's a poly route with both ROs included, yes 🥰 I don't know yet if it's gonna be implemented as I go or last, I'll probably plant the seed early on and then leave the bulk of the route for later, but in any case it's something I definitely plan on including.

Content Warning Macro
DEMO | CODE
(Dedicated to my friends from the sister Ouroboros server ♥️ A cute mini project I worked on for a few hours!)
A macro that allows readers to toggle for topics they find triggering/sensitive to hide them unless clicked/pressed. This simplifies the process by a lot, and comes with additional features!
For instructions, follow the link to the code above. Below, I will be explaining more in-depth about how it simplifies the process, and includes additional features. :)
Simplified how?
When you want to section off portions of the text as it has sensitive content, you may use an if condition to check if the reader is sensitive to it, followed by a linkreplace.
However, doing this multiple times can be exhaustive. It also likely requires you to copy the text twice, for both in the case the reader is sensitive, and the case they are not. This can be unwieldy if you have a lot of paragraphs or a big one. See example below.
Using the macro, however, you can shorten it to this:
Not only is this much more readable, it does not artificially inflate the word count of your game and take up space, and it is also much quicker to write!
And some other neat features...
Can section off only parts of a paragraph!
Content warning text is generated automatically, but can optionally be rewritten!
Content warnings only list sensitive topics relevant to the reader, even if that section has multiple other content warnings!
