September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day
Learn about depression and bipolar disorder and how you can help someone you care about. Take a QPR course. Add the suicide prevention lifeline number to your phone (800-273-8255) or the text crisis line (text LISTEN to 741741). (Sorry that these are US only; please feel free to add on other resources.) Advocate for your school to adopt a suicide prevention program (like Signs of Suicide) or join with others at your university to start an Active Minds chapter. Get involved in your state, regional, or local suicide prevention coalition or network. Volunteer, raise awareness, help however you can. Asking a person if they are thinking of taking their life or hurting themselves can, in fact, be life-saving. There is a role for everyone.
