What is high diplomacy? For example, a Persian courtier touchingly holds the hand of a Greek envoy, accompanying him to the royal throne. Fragment of a sculptural frieze from Persepolis, Iran, photo by Professor Lloyd Llewellyn-Jones

This is what the morning after the first snow might look like somewhere in a panel castle on the outskirts of Eastern Biryullia.
But this is an illustration by British artist Angela Barrett for Snow White in 1993. The Queen drops three drops of blood on the snow, pricked while sewing pearls to a brocade cloth and thinking that she will have a beautiful child with white skin, dark curls and a scarlet blush.

When I see the works of the British naturalist artist Charles Tanicliffe (1901-1979), who spent most of his life on the island of Anglesey in harmony with the world around him and drew scenes from the life of birds and animals, I certainly remember the 1954 Soviet cartoon "Orange Neck" based on Vitaly's story Bianki about polite partridges who wish each other a good day, are friends with a lark, follow the changes in nature around, help out relatives in trouble, sneer and philosophize: "Children, with the formation of a young partridge will not disappear anywhere!" I advise you to watch the Soyuzmultfilm masterpiece in the old voice acting, where birds speak with the voices of the great Soviet actors Maria Babanova, Georgy Vitsin, Irina Gosheva and Valentina Telegin. But the 2001 re-voice, although with the participation of Konkin, is considered not so outstanding

I have never seen anything like this: the Palekh hall in the Sats theater with huge lacquer panels depicting theater scenes performed by artists from the Palekh manufactory of the 1970s-80s.

I don鈥檛 know why Henry Fitzroy, the illegitimate son of Henry VIII and his heir nonetheless, was depicted in this portrait wearing a cap. I think the version that he simply did not want to get out of bed, even when the artist had already arrived, and he drew it - this story from the category of Carrie Bradshaw, who showed up for the shooting late and in a terrible state, does not seem so convincing. Maybe Henry was just sick that day? Its painfulness is known, but as for me, the young man just might want to express himself and emphasize his age and style, and at the same time show his torso to add some kind of sharpness and attractiveness. Or maybe just the idea and vision of the artist? In any case, the effect, consciously or not, was achieved - and the portrait really remained in history as a wonderful portrayal of a young man in a domestic form. And the fact that such a headdress was an ultra-fashionable, expensive and high-status element can be seen without further explanation. And yes, I'm sorry that Fitzroy died at 17

When the heir to the Austrian Habsburgs, Archduke Joseph, married the Spanish Infanta Isabella of the Italian sideline of the French Bourbons, his powerful mother, Empress Maria Theresa, commissioned a series of paintings - like a report from the magnificent wedding celebrations to the court artist Martin van Meitens. Huge canvases convey the scale of the festival: an uncountable number of carriages, guests, musicians, magnificently decorated halls ... It is interesting that the people also had access to the royal holiday, people in small groups, so that they could watch what was happening. Most of the noble ladies and gentlemen were also only spectators, only a small circle of members of the imperial family sat at the table. The main task of all this luxury is to turn in memory the painful pages of the hardships of the Seven Years' War, which exhausted the empire, and to show the neighbors that there is still gunpowder. Well, how could a marriage between the offspring of sworn enemies - the Habsburgs and the Bourbons - pass unnoticed?
