Familial Trauma Prompts That Are Beyond "My Parents Died"
𖦹 Parent-sponsored Sibling Rivalry: the parents give the star child the most attention, creating unhealthy competition between their children that leads to a toxic household.
𖦹 Constantly Absent Parents: they're always somewhere, but just never at home. Before you know it, the kid is raising him/herself and any siblings.
𖦹 Emotionally Absent Parents: this time, they're there. But only physically. There never there when the child is stressed, confused, or breaking down. They're like a ghost who's present but useless.
𖦹 Overly Conservative, Outdated Parents: the parents who treat their kids like they're in the 1900s. Their expectations for their children are so out of touch and restricting that the kids don't know how to express themselves anymore.
𖦹 The Ignored Child: this is the child that the parents pay least attention to. They're not quite good enough to be applauded and not quite unique enough to get noticed.
𖦹 The Manipulative Guardians: they'll guilt-trip, gaslight--they'll do anything to make their child act as a puppet for them. They're not raising the kid; they're investing in them.
𖦹 The Vicariously-Lived-Through Child: what their parents failed to do will be what their child will succeed. They push their offspring towards their regrets without consideration of the children themselves and force them to fix their regrets by living vicariously through them.
𖦹 The Parents with High Expectations: they expect nothing but the best for their child. Their ideals are so unrealistic that they're simply impossible, but the kid must achieve them regardless. For a while, they're at the top before the break down and come crashing back to Earth.
𖦹 The Toxic Sibling Parents Are Unaware About: a child that appears perfectly responsible, sweet, and well-behaved in front of parents is actually a demon in disguise when alone with their sibling(s). They're manipulative, blackmailing, and toxic, but the parents refuse to believe it.
𖦹 The Constantly Blamed Kid: the child that's blamed for every mishap. Every time a mistake happens, every finger is pointed at them. When they grow up, they can't help but become excessively defensive because they're so used to someone shooting at them from the other side.
𖦹 Parents Who Never Listen: these are the parents that always jump to their own conclusions. They make assumptions and decisions without ever consulting the kid first, but on the off chance that they do, they simply don't listen. They always assume that they know best, even if their choice is related to their child, not them.

Writing Exercise: Write a letter from your characters
Write a letter from one character to another that will never be sent. It could be a confession, an apology, a revelation, a warning, or a goodbye. Let them be free and unguarded with their emotions, letting out all the things they’d usually keep bottled up. Give them a moment of true honesty.
An exercise like this lets you delve deep into your character's psyche. As you write, ask yourself how this internal, vulnerable voice compares to the voice they use with others, and why this might be?

How to Write a GREEN FLAG Love Interest
As the romance genre grows more and more in popularity, it's hard to not notice the abundance of red flag love interests. And while yes, that makes it fun and interesting, it's still toxic at the end of the day.
So how do you write a love interest that's a green flag, then?
1. Imperfection
Your love interest is not going to start off as the perfect girlfriend or boyfriend. We want them to be the ideal partner, of course, but that doesn't mean they're born without any flaws.
They might have some bad habits, regrets, hesitation, secrets, and boundaries, but they're considered "green flags" because they can overcome those imperfections to contribute positively to their relationship.
2. Communication
Communication is one of the most crucial points in a trusting relationship. Your characters have to be able to talk honestly with one another.
Now, I get it if your character has trust issues or some kind of obstacle that makes it difficult for them to open up, but they should at least be willing to communicate.
3. Patience and Supportiveness
This shouldn't be a huge revelation; any good partner should have patience and support their loved one. These two traits are also key to having a healthy and open relationship.
Patience and communication are also important to highlight when the characters fight. Yes, they might get whisked away in the moment and spew words they don't agree with, but the aftermath should be a healthy resolution in which both parties speak honestly and listen patiently.
Additionally, remember that everyone has boundaries. They have topics they don't wish to talk about or moments they'd rather forget. An ideal relationship would include partners that know each other's vulnerabilities and difficult past events, but it takes work to get there.
The best thing to start with is patience. Your love interest should not force their significant other to talk about sensitive subjects that they don't want to talk about. That's simply being inconsiderate and pushy.
4. Teamwork
A couple is a team. They might not always agree on the same method or ideal, but they should listen to each other and be willing to compromise if necessary.
They need to tackle problems together.
5. Trust
This is a no-brainer. Your characters should trust one another, because what's the point in a relationship where they're constantly skeptical of their partner? Show their faith in each other.
6. Overprotectiveness
AVOID EXTREME OVERPROTECTIVENESS.
I know being overprotective is quite romanticized these days, but it's an objectively toxic trait. Being overprotective is controlling--your character is controlling whom their partner can or can't interact with--and it shows a lack of faith in their significant other. It can feel exhausting to the receiver.
7. Love Bombing
Here's another thing to avoid, whether you do it on purpose or not: love bombing.
For those who don't know, love bombing is a manipulation tactic in which one showers their partner with gifts, sweet words, and kind actions for a short period to make their partner attached before the former reverts to their normal self, in which there isn't all of this generosity and pampering.
Yes, being a good partner can mean spoiling your lover and treating them well, but if you cannot keep such actions up for the duration of their relationship, then it's basically love bombing. It's dishonest--it's not genuine.
8. Growth and Effort
Realistically, your character will have some detrimental traits that could harm the relationship. That's reality. A green flag doesn't necessarily need to have all of the characteristics I listed above, but they should be striving to achieve them all.
The greenest flag of them all is putting in actual effort into the relationship and themselves to improve what they have.
Perhaps they're bad at communication but try their best to open up. Maybe they have a bad temper but are working on reining it in and staying calm. That's growth. That's effort. That's respectable.
~~~
For anyone who needed to see this, I hope this has helped!
Happy writing~
Hey Lovebugs, unfortunately I had to make a very hard decision today. I won’t go into details publicly as I don’t want to come off any sort of way but it took a lot out of me emotionally and financially alongside having just moved states. I’m posting this to say:
Commissions are open and I’m willing to do lower prices with what works for you.
I need to try and get back some of the money for vet bills, truly anything helps! As I said, I’m willing to discuss an alternative amount if you would like to help but don’t want to pay the original amounts listed— I do not want just donations as it makes me feel weird and uncomfortable without giving in return. Thank you!
Edit: I can do full body and other options not listed on site, please just ask!
Truths Every Writer (And Reader) Should Accept...
Not all endings are satisfactory; sometimes, life endings aren't satisfactory either.
Not all characters should be liked by the audience; don't write for the response of your readers.
A long adventure doesn't equate to change; sometimes, the protagonist ends up right where they began.
People die with regrets.
Not all antagonists are "bad" people; good and evil isn't so black and white.
People lose motivation; that headstrong protagonist will also want to give up sometimes. They can't fight forever.
A good or evil character doesn't always need a traumatic backstory.
Some genres just aren't as popular as others.
Fiction is fiction; it doesn't have to be ultra-realistic. Write about what you want to.
Your protagonist may look like the villain to your antagonist; your main character isn't the light of everyone's life.
People are hypocrites; some of your characters will be hypocrites, and that's not a bad thing.
Writing is a long process; those fanfic authors that upload three times a week? Yeah, that's not everyone.
Happy writing~
Sweetdlight: I felt an urge to write a fanfic based on a particular short, now posted below. Everyone who chose to read my fic, even during its messy phases, thank you for the love. On that note, I'm still tweaking this because I unintentionally posted this fic before I finished editing it. What was seen was a draft.
📄 SUMMARY
As a foreigner visiting friends in Musutafu for a graduation, you anticipated the curious questions as a human still considered a rarity in Japan.
However, there were a few who still held onto old perceptions of people who look similar to you.
"Is it because I'm..."
Black? 🖤
When he approached...It was with a smile; and it was innocuous enough to warrant pause at the gate.
From what you've gathered, he seemed as average as they came, a human without a quirk. And in the looks departments.... "
"You're very beautiful," he says as he stares at you.
A question quickly forms on your tongue, and by grace, thus held them back like a secret. Beauty, yes, you knew this to be true. With previous experiences of hearing the same words, you stared, and wondered what this conversation would become.
His lips crack into a smirk.
"I like the black girls," he tells you.
There was no reaction but the perk of your eyebrow at his confession - one you've heard countless times from men with similar specific preferences.
"You like the hip-hop? -- Like Kendrick Lamar, you know?"
You stared at him."Be for real, bro. Are you kidding me, right now?"
His eyes darted from your head to your shoes, and his smirk widens. "You know how to do the twerking, like Beyonce - that dadadadada? Like the twerking, you know?"
"Are you serious right now? You're just saying that because I'm black, right?"
He nods, "Yes."
"We can be the Wiz Khalifa, you know like the Wiz Khalifa, we can be the black, and yellow, black, and yellow, black and yellow."
"How would YOU like to be BLACK, and BLUE?"
The sudden recognition of his voice struck, and you turned to meet a glare matching the searing heat of Hades anger. Katsuki!
ace a blonde teenager eyes locked upon the man speaking to you.
The man himself backed away slowly, his attention flittering to you and to the blonde. "You're her boyfriend?"
Tension hung thick in the air as you stood between the man who asked you questions, and the blonde whose brows knit in anger.
Katsuki backed away with his fingers pointing at his eyes then at the man who flirted with you. As he pivot on his step, he says, "What kind of idiot would say that just because you're black?!"
"That's none of your business, you mob character!" The blonde stepped up, his glare matching the sharpness of a razor blade.
"Katsuki, bro, let's just go." You advised, sensing the storm brewing between the two -- one undoubtedly strong enough to kill the other with brute strength alone.
A smile warms its way through your lips as you walk with him."It's not the first time."
Sweetdlite: You know when you get hit with sudden inspiration to free write, and while it's messy, it's progression...A progression beating like the drums of liberation; liberation with our voices.
I did it again. I posted this when I didn't intend to. I seriously thought I just saved this, so for now, I'm treating this as a taste of what I'm writing until I allot my time to writing without distractions. I'm currently in the process of moving, and have to keep an eye on some property.
Warnings: Character Death. No beta, we die like Ace-kun. (Yup, still editing.)
Š SUMMARY
"Luffy. Luffy can't be..."
Drums Of Liberation
(Snippet)
When the announcement, "Monkey D. Luffy is DEAD."
You stared up at the opening created by
Thoughts of Luffy...
"No..." You whisper.
The world faded into a blur as groups of the enemy mob rejoiced, and cheered in triumph. Yet their voices were muffled by the multitude of thoughts that ravaged your brain - of Luffy.
He can't be...You argued against the devil - the one who whispered doubt. "Luffy." The world blurred from the tears that threatened to fall, and you grip your weapon tighter. "Luffy can't be..."
Chopper screams, his voice full of the anguish of a loss - a loss of a friend fighting for freedom. "Luffy got killed!"
Your tears flowed from the impact of Chopper's statement, and no amount of will-power could stop it. Instead of fighting it, you jerked your head upward at the gaping path that led to Kaido.
"Of course Kaido, killed him," one man voiced then laughed.
"That strawhat bastard had what's coming to him," added another man.
But all you could think about was Luffy, and everyone who put their lives on the line to rage war against the tyrannical oppression of Kaido; an infamous emperor of the seas.
As more voices shout, and protest Luffy's fate, you watch as Kaido, now in his dragon-form hover above the massive hole in the ceiling, and open his maw, a burst of light exuding from his throat. In a panic, your eyes follow where Nami, Otama, and Usopp team stands.
"Nami!" You called out in desperation as your heart raced at the thought of another dying.
A massive of flames hurled itself against Kaido's dragon blast, shielding the navigator from harm. Yet the blast sent her flying back.
Spicy Dialogue Starters Pack
Slow Burn That’s About to Explode
"If you keep looking at me like that, I’m going to do something we’ll both regret."
"Say that again. Slower."
"You really like testing my patience, don’t you?"
"Back up. Closer. I want to see if you’ll actually do it."
"Do you realize how loud you were moaning my name last night?"
"You should probably stop touching me like that... unless you plan on finishing what you started."
"We’re not doing this here." – "Why not? Scared you’ll like it?"
"I dare you. No, seriously—I dare you."
"One bed. One night. You sure you can behave?"
"You think I won’t?" – "I know you will. That’s the problem."
Enemies to Lovers, but We’re Both Hot and Unhinged
"If I kiss you, it’s not because I like you. It’s because you won’t shut up."
"Do it. Touch me like you hate me."
"You’re infuriating." – "And you’re turned on."
"Careful. You’re starting to sound jealous."
"Admit it. You like it when we fight."
"You want me. You just don’t want to want me."
"If you’re going to stare, you might as well do something about it."
"Say it. Say you want me." – "Why? You’ll just use it against me."
"Keep talking like that and I’ll kiss you right here."
"Don’t tempt me." – "What if I want to?"
Post-Tension Intimacy (A.K.A. We Finally Snapped)
"You're shaking." – "So are you."
"This doesn’t mean anything." – "Then why are you holding me like that?"
"I’ve wanted this since the moment I met you."
"You're not getting any sleep tonight, just so you know."
"You're mine now. Say it."
"God, you feel so good." – "Yeah? Then shut up and keep going."
"You can hate me in the morning. Just… let me have this tonight."
"Is this what you wanted?" – "No. I wanted more."
"Don’t stop. Don’t you dare stop."
"I’m going to ruin you. And you’re going to thank me for it."
Teasing Touch, Dangerous Proximity
"You’re blushing." – "Shut up."
"That shirt’s doing you no favors. Take it off."
"If you wanted me to kiss you, you could’ve just said so."
"I like the way you say my name. Say it again."
"You’re standing really close." – "Yeah? You gonna move?"
"I can feel your heartbeat. Is that for me?"
"Your hands are shaking... here, let me help you."
"Careful. Someone might think you actually want me."
"You know exactly what you’re doing to me, don’t you?"
"We’re not supposed to do this." – "Since when has that ever stopped us?"
Voice Low, Words Barely Whispers
"Keep your voice down. Or don’t. Let them hear."
"Every time you talk, all I can think about is your mouth on mine."
"Say the word, and I’ll have you against that wall in five seconds."
"What do you think happens if I kiss you right now?"
"You smell like trouble." – "You taste like it."
"Look me in the eyes when you lie like that."
"One more step and I won’t be able to hold back."
"If you keep teasing me like that, I’m going to ruin you."
"Tell me to stop." – silence – "Didn’t think so."
"We’re alone now. You still pretending this is just tension?"
Hot-Headed, Argument-Laced, About to Snap
"Why do you always have to push my buttons?" – "Because I love watching you lose control."
"You think you’re in control here? That’s cute."
"You're not walking away from me. Not this time."
"God, you're impossible." – "You didn’t seem to mind last night."
"Say it louder. Maybe if you scream my name again, I’ll believe you."
"Keep pretending you don’t want me. I’ll keep proving you wrong."
"You're dangerous." – "Only if you ask nicely."
"Is this still an argument or are we just flirting with knives now?"
"Admit it. You love it when I get like this."
"Don’t act like you don’t want this too."
Write Characters Who Feel Dangerous (Even If They’re "Good")
╰ Make their unpredictability a feature, not a bug
A dangerous character isn’t just the guy with the gun. It’s the one you can’t quite predict. Maybe they’re chaotic-good. Maybe they’re lawful-evil. Maybe they’re smiling while they’re plotting the next five ways to ruin your day. If the reader can’t tell exactly what they’ll do next — congrats, you’ve made them dangerous.
╰ Give them a weapon that's personal
Anyone can have a sword. Yawn. Give your character a weapon that says something about them. A violin bow turned garrote. A candy tin full of arsenic. Their own charisma as a leash. The weapon isn’t just what they fight with, it’s how they are.
╰ Let them choose not to strike and make that scarier
Sometimes not acting is the biggest flex. A truly dangerous character doesn’t need to explode to be terrifying. They can sit back, cross their legs, sip their coffee, and say, “Not yet.” Instant chills.
╰ Layer their menace with something else, humor, kindness, sadness
One-note villains (or heroes!) are boring. A dangerous character should make you like them right up until you realize you shouldn’t have. Let them charm. Let them save the kitten. Let them do something that makes the eventual threat feel like betrayal.
╰ Show how other characters react to them
If every character treats them like a nuclear bomb in the room, your reader will, too. Even if your dangerous character is polite and quiet, the dog that won’t go near them or the boss who flinches when they smile will sell the danger harder than a blood-soaked axe.
╰ Make their danger internal as well as external
It’s not just what they can do to others. It’s what they’re fighting inside themselves. The anger. The boredom. The itch for chaos. Make them a little bit scary even to themselves, and suddenly they’re alive in ways pure external "baddies" never are.
╰ Don't make them immune to consequences
Even the most dangerous characters should get hit—physically, emotionally, socially. Otherwise, they turn into invincible cartoons. Let them lose sometimes. Let them bleed. It’ll make every moment they win feel twice as earned (and twice as scary).
╰ Tie their danger to what they love
Real threats aren't powered by anger; they're powered by love. Protectiveness can be feral. Loyalty can turn into violence. A character who's dangerous because they care about something? That's a nuclear reactor in a leather jacket.
╰ Remember: danger is a vibe, not a body count
Your character doesn’t have to kill anyone to be dangerous. Sometimes just a glance. A whispered rumor. A quiet, calculated decision to leave you alive — for now. Dangerous characters control the room without ever raising their voice.
I'm writing that shit! But I need to stretch those muscles. 🖤🤎🫶🏾
Honestly, it is a necessity more than ever nowadays for Black women fic writers to create. We aren't getting the real life media content we deserve. All these fine and talented Black women and men out here never being paired TOGETHER in interesting projects across various genres? A travesty. Please write that Blackety Black fic. Throw in whatever tropes you want. See your fellow Black writers creating similar stories on the TL? Who cares?! You are providing a gift that readers want and buying time for another writer to finish a story. No Black reader has ever said, "Damn, too many Alex Cross, Terry Richmond, Killmonger, whoever fics out here doing whatever." Black fic writers are such a small percentage in fandom writing that every story is an important patch to our collective quilt. Write that shit. Even if you think no one is reading it. I promise, somebody in the world quietly is, and they are grateful to see you post or update. Write for yourself so you can read your own words. I write for myself all the time because I rarely see stuff I want in the world. The world is anti-Black, but I'm creating pro-Black worlds. I get stoked when you are, too, like we're the Dora Milaje of fic writing. Thank you for coming to my Black Fic Writer Ted-Talk.
Write when you can. Post when you can.
🥵 My first period sex fic, and I loved it! More please.
you literally cannot tell me that kaiser doesn't love period sex... hear me out okie!
he's not the biggest fan at first glance. like any other normal being, he thinks it's rather gross and unhygenic -- i mean the period is literally the lining of your uterus being shed, so he's not the biggest fanatic right off the bat.
it's only when he sees you writhing painfully atop of your shared bed, sniffling into the soft sheets with soft groans. he snoops up behind you, pushing your hair back behind your ear before pressing a chaste kiss against your cheek, asking you what's wrong.
he only coos sadly when you tell him it's your period, and it's hurting real bad. he brings a big, warm hand and clasp it over your tummy, asking if there's anything he can do to help. you only shake your head, the least bit frustrated at his ministrations having being worn from the pain all day, and wanting nothing more but to bask in your pain for a bit.
it's only when he's sitting in your guy's living room, waiting on a pack of pads and some sweets he ordered to be delivered to the home, when he comes across a video that claims: having sex on your period makes your cramps hurt less! he quirks a brow and scoffs, in what world would that even make sense? he's quick to scroll on, but can't deny his suspicion on whether the spewing man was right or not. so he opens a searching browser, and upon further research, and scrolls through r/periodsex on reddit, he deemed the man's claim to be strangely correct.
so he titters himself back into the bedroom where you lay, now scrolling on your computer with an abundance of pillows and sheets surrounding each side of your body, and kaiser chuckles at the sight.
"maus.. you've heard that havin' sex on y'r period can rid your cramps?"
you scoff, on par to his reaction but yours expends a little more anger. "that's so stupid, miche." you scowl a bit, face lightening when he reveals a couple chocolate bars and little sweets from his back.
"i dunno, 'id some research 'nd i think it might be true." he whistles, strolling his way over to you and handing you a bar of chocolate, placing the rest onto your bedside table.
"thank you, miche!" you grin, taking a nibble from the sweet, "but, i don't think your little period thing is true. sounds stupid." you're the same as him. no wonder you guys are so perfect for one another.
"hm," kaiser hums, rubbing his chin, "wha'dya say we test it out, maus?"
and that's how he got you here -- arched evilly as his heavy cock head sides back and forth through your aching slit. it spills with tinted slick, coating his pale-pink shaft red.
"micha," you cry out, terribly embarrassed as his slowed actions. you thought he'd be quick to get it over with for your sake, but he seemed to be enjoying this little 'try-out' way too much. "hurry, s--so embarrassed." you cover your face and whine as he taps his cock against your wet cunt, loud, sloppy noises eliciting from the mess. "embarrassed? how come?" kaiser grins, "nothin' t'be embarrassed about, lovie. 's just me."
"i know b--but... don't want y'to think ‘m gross." you whine, handling at the white sheets.
"nothin' you do is gross, maus." kaiser hums. "you understand?" you nod quickly, knowing just how mean he could get if you even bother trying to talk down on his efforts to love you. "hase, i'll put it in now, yeah? tell if it hurts, swear."
"i will! f--fuck me, miche, pleasee," you whine, shaking your ass up against his erection.
"you're shameless, hase." kaiser laughs, wasting no time before he thumbs at the front of his cock, pressing the crown against your weeping slit. you two gasp simultaneously when he fucks only the tip into your cunt -- fuck.
your pussy is so much hotter, and much more tender than it usually is -- and he knows this fact well enough from the amount of times he's made love to this very pussy. you whine when you feel your tummy churn from another cramp, tears building against your lashline. "oh, fuck, hase." kaiser whines, inching himself bit by bit into your sensitive cunt, a gentle thumb coming down to massage at your swollen, pearly clit. "y'alright, maus? need me to stop? or slow?" kaiser asks considerately despite his urge to not listen even if you do tell him to. god, it feels so damn good.
"no! miche, m--more!" you whine,
"haaah," a soft murmur of 'so hot,' is all he can manage as he shuffles himself further and further into your pussy, coming to a halt when he hears a rather pitched yelp.
"hase? y'alright?" you're breathing heavily, paired up with loud breathy moans. he's never seen you in this state with just his cock shoved into you -- without even moving or any other felt on your body. "'s sensitive, yeah? the ladies online said so, too." kaiser hums, thrusting slightly.
"shu--shut up, micha, just fuck me, 'kay? slowly!"
"y'got it, hase, calm down, 'righ? just enjoy it, miche'll make you feel s'good. so fuckin’ pretty hase.”
and god -- when he looks down after pulling out a slight and sees his cock coated in a deep crimson, he groans so unbelievably loud unlike you've ever heard before. the pretty scarlet in contrast to his white skin is throwing him in a loop, unable to help himself as he humps back inside with little remorse. he whimpers and whines each and every time your quivering pussy clenches his cock over and over -- and he's not even sure if you're aware of what you're doing.
"fuck, maus. f--feels good?" he finally cracks, bringing his hand down again to massage at your clit.
"u--uhuh, good.." you mumble, drooling against the sheets with a bit of tongue poking out. fuck, you're cute."
"cum now, baby, c'mon." kaiser leans over, pressing your body further into the sheets with his chest pressed against your bare back. "you can do it." he whispers, watching you unravel and shudder around his cock with a mean pinch to your clit. "m--miche..!" your thighs shiver, crying as you cum meanly on his cock and messing his shaft with a mixture of your creamy nut and rufous blood.
kaiser groans, fucking you gently to ride out your orgasm. his strokes are slow and deep, making you gasp at each initial thrust. "i'll cum inside." not a question, just a statement, a warning if you will.
and he does just that, unraveling just a mere couple seconds after yours and shooting white ropes of thick spent into your poor pussy. he groans and pants all at once, pulling out with a soft plop and pressing a kiss to your asscheek before pulling at it to admire his artwork.
he whistles in awe, watching his load spill out of you and mix with your blood to create a peony pink -- and although feeling a sense of flailing pride having to see his nut spill out of you, he won't chastise his sweet girl for it this time.
"m--miche..."
"yes, baby. let me clean you up." kaiser grunts with a grin, arms wrapping you into his embrace and taking you to the bathroom. "lets shower, yeah? i'll wash y'r hair f'you."
you press a weak hand against his chest, "b--but did you like it? was it g--gross?" you ask nervously, tiredly, unable to meet the man's eyes.
"no, i told you, i'd never find any part of you gross, maus. i loved it." kaiser chuckles, holding no hint of recline in his cerulean eyes. "you sure?"
kaiser scoffs. the one thing about kaiser is that he never lies. he'll tell you straightforward when he oughts, and you know this much. but you can't seem to hide the impending doom of embarrassment that haunts you in the back of your head, even if he affirms you over and over. "like i'd lie, lovie. don't doubt my honesty now. it was fun, ‘nd yer so pretty everywhere." he pinches at your cheek, earning a playful slap to his chest. "how's your tummy? still hurts?"
you shake your head, "no, doesn't hurt anymore, swear." and kaiser only grins, kissing your forehead gently.
"good, lovie. let me warm the water."
10 Quiet Ways Your Character Is Breaking Their Own Heart (And Pretending It's Fine)
These are the betrayals that aren’t loud. They don’t come with fireworks or screaming matches. These are the small, slow deaths. The ones that your character lets happen... while smiling politely.
» They say yes when they desperately want to say no. Every. Damn. Time. They show up when they're exhausted. They agree to things they hate. They make themselves smaller, softer, easier, because "good people" don’t make waves, right? (Spoiler: they're drowning.)
» They keep chasing people who only love them halfway. It's not even subtle anymore. They know these people leave them on "read," show up late, make them feel like an afterthought. But they cling anyway, spinning every scrap of affection into a story about hope. (It’s not hope. It’s hunger.)
» They refuse to believe good things are meant for them. They’ll hype everyone else up. They’ll believe in everyone else's dreams. But when something finally good lands in their lap? They’ll panic. Push it away. Tell themselves it was a fluke. (Because being disappointed feels safer than being lucky.)
» They’re waiting for closure that will never come. An apology. An explanation. A miracle where someone says, "You were right, and I was wrong, and I’m so sorry." They wait years. Decades. Lifetimes. But deep down, they know: some people never come back. Some stories just end without punctuation.
» They’re hoarding all their "almosts" like treasures. The job they almost got. The love that almost worked. The version of themselves they almost became. They replay those maybes like a greatest hits album. (Meanwhile, real life is slipping by while they mourn possibilities.)
» They’re performing a version of success they secretly hate. Look at the Instagram. Look at the LinkedIn updates. Look at the shiny exterior. It looks like winning. But every trophy they collect feels heavier, not lighter. Every promotion tastes a little more like ash. (Turns out, chasing someone else's dream is still losing.)
» They forgive people who aren’t sorry. Not because they’re enlightened. Not because they’ve healed. But because it’s easier to pretend it didn’t hurt than to sit with the fact that it did—and that the person responsible doesn't care. (Some wounds scar better when you stop pretending they were accidents.)
» They punish themselves for still being soft. The world told them, again and again, that soft things get broken. And they believed it. So every time they feel too much? Every time they cry or hope or trust? They tell themselves they’re weak. Stupid. Embarrassing. (They're not. They're just still alive.)
 They downplay their own magic. They call their talents "lucky breaks." Their beauty "average." Their intelligence "no big deal." They shrug off compliments like they're dangerous. Because deep down, they've been taught that being remarkable makes you a target.
» They cling to the idea that if they just work harder, they'll finally be enough. They believe in meritocracy like it’s a religion. That if they hustle hard enough, self-sacrifice deep enough, burn themselves to ash perfectly enough, someone, somewhere, will finally say, "You're worthy now." (They were always worthy. The system is just broken.)
Writing Platonic Relationships
When writing relationships between characters, one of the best things you can do as a writer is master the art of platonic relationships. Not every relationship has to turn romantic—and when done right, platonic bonds can hit harder than love stories.
But writing them well? That takes a lot of intentionally-written cues and dialogue. Here are just a few tips:
1. Establish emotional intimacy early
Platonic doesn’t mean distant. Let them see each other. Let one character be the first person the other calls when things go wrong. Show moments of vulnerability, casual care, and trust without flirty undertones. Let them have traditions, inside jokes, or quiet routines together.
2. Don’t hint at romance “just in case”
If you’re going for a purely platonic vibe, don’t toss in romantic tension as bait. It cheapens the relationship. Let them have chemistry that’s based in compatibility, not attraction. Not every deep bond needs a romantic subplot. Avoid unnecessary lingering glances or “almost touch” moments unless it’s 100% platonic context (e.g., comforting after a trauma).
3. Give them shared history or shared growth
Platonic duos feel real when we see how they’ve been through things together. Maybe they survived something. Maybe they just grew up side by side. What matters is that their connection isn’t shallow. Flashbacks, casual references to “remember when,” or unspoken teamwork go a long way.
4. Let them be physically close without it meaning more
One character leaning on the other’s shoulder. Braiding hair. Holding hands in a high-stress moment. All of this can be platonic when framed right. Normalize physical affection without romantic framing. You could show how each character interprets the touch. If it’s comfort or instinct—not attraction—it’s platonic.
5. Use other characters to reinforce it
Have others in the story acknowledge the bond without assuming it’s romantic. It helps the reader accept it as non-romantic, too. Maybe someone can say, “You two are like siblings” or “You always have each other’s back.” Reinforce the type of love.
6. Give them conflict—but let them choose each other
Don’t make it perfect. Platonic love, like any bond, includes disagreement. But when they still come through for each other, that’s what makes it powerful. Maybe one apologizes without ego. The other forgives without resentment. That’s platonic strength.
---
Platonic relationships aren’t the backup to romance—they’re their own kind of energy. They don’t need to be slow-burn romances in disguise. Let them be bold, soft, loud, or quiet—but most of all, real. Because at the end of the day, platonic love deserves to be written with the same depth, stakes, and tenderness as any love story.
Can you help with some descriptions that imply a character has been killed before it moves on to the end scene?
How to Imply a Character's Death
-> feel free to edit and adjust pronouns as you see fit.
1. Cut the Scene at a Critical Moment
End the moment with danger closing in, but don’t show the death. Let the next scene imply the worst has happened.
Example: The sound of boots pounding on wet concrete echoed down the alley. He shoved the map into her hands and turned, just as the black car screeched to a halt behind them. She screamed his name, but the gunfire drowned her out.
2. Use Reactions from Other Characters
Have characters grieve, hesitate to talk about it, or change behavior.
Example: No one mentioned his name anymore. Not during breakfast, not even when his old mug—still stained with last week’s coffee—sat untouched in the sink. His coat still hung by the door. Someone had folded his gloves neatly on the table.
3. Symbolism and Setting
Weather, silence, blood on objects, or personal effects left behind can stand in for the body.
Example: The front door hung open. Wind pressed through the entryway, rattling a single, muddy boot that had fallen just inside. Her jacket was draped across the railing, blood spattered across the collar. The storm rolled on, but the house was silent.
4. Last Words or Gestures
A parting glance, a farewell line, or a protective move that feels final can all suggest death.
Example: "Go," she breathed, pushing him toward the stairwell with what strength she had left. "Please."
Her hand lingered a second longer on his coat, then she turned and slammed the metal door behind him.
A moment later, the hallway lit up orange, and the screams never came.
5. Absence in the Final Scene
They’re just... not there. But everyone acts like they should be.
Example: They passed around glasses and lit a fire, all too aware of the sixth seat left untouched at the table. No one reached for it. No one moved it closer. Someone poured an extra drink anyway and left it there, untouched as the flames crackled on.
6. Shifts in Tone and Pacing
Slow down. Focus on detail. The world should feel heavier, quieter, more still, even if the death wasn't shown.
Example: The world didn’t stop, but something inside it slowed, buckled, cracked.
A cup tipped from the counter, shattered across the tiles, and no one moved to pick it up. The wind slipped through the cracked window, lifting the edge of his journal. Pages fluttered.
Somewhere, a dog barked once and went quiet. The sun set without ceremony. And the silence that followed was thick enough to drown in.
