my feelings on all shipping....you are more than welcome to not like a ship for any reason at all. You don't have to justify your dislike and I promise you nobody wants to read your manifesto about why you dislike it either. The ONLY thing you are asked to do is to keep your mouth shut about it, whether that is never mentioning it at all, or posting about it untagged and out of sight of people who do like it. That is common sense and courtesy.
We have problems like antis and bullying because people think that shipping is a form of activism. It isn't. Like I dunno how much clearer to be on this lol, it's not. People are going to ship things that annoy or even personally offend you and it is on YOU to stay away from that content, not them to never make it. Literally if you are feeling "unsafe" because of a fictional character kissing another fictional character that is a skill issue and you making anti shipping posts about it is just you admitting you can't handle yourself in public and should probably have your parents monitoring your online time

i know they didnāt really have another choice but itās so disappointing that they just tacked a regeneration scene at the end of an episode that initially wasnāt at all meant to be a farewell. ncuti TOTALLY should have had one last special with tons of hype surrounding it where he battles the daleks and saves rogue before exiting the show, something that actually FEELS like a conclusive send-off instead of getting an out-of-nowhere regeneration in an episode that wasnāt even remotely building to it :(

Just remembered that the original reason Belinda wanted to get home for 7:30am on the 24th may specifically was because thatās when her shift started
They literally rewrote her life to replace her career with motherhood

Itās not even just Belinda. This entire era has been weirdly pushy on enforcing motherhood as the purpose of women
Donna is confirmed to have settled down and had a child as soon as she left the doctor
Ruby is only 19 and from the very beginning sheās in a maternal role. She looks after the children Carla fosters. In space babies she immediately assumes a maternal role to look after the children.
Anita was sad and lonely and now sheās happy and pregnant (from an accidental pregnancy, isnāt she so glad that happened without her deciding to do it!)
The ranis motivation is grief about her infertility, and her plan is to create loads of new time lord children. One of her incarnations describes herself as the mother of the other.
This entire two series arc has been building up to the statement that women should be mothers, and would be so much happier if they were mothers. Whether they want it or not. When it happens theyāll realise itās what they wanted the whole time. Itās gross and I think one of the most misogynistic plots from a modern show Iāve seen.
#I had this impression the whole time too#feels like the show lost its essence somewhere#not on the actors part#not even on RTD#mind you I knew this new disney era would be fucked up#doctor who#doctor who spoilers

The year is 2056. The 30th doctor is David Tennant. He took over from David Tennant. His companion is played by David Tennant. The villain is David Tennant as David Tennant. The showrunner is David Tennant. You hear a knock on the door. It's David Tennant. He gives you a pocket watch. You open it and remember who you are. You were David Tennant all along.

Confession:
Nothing against Boris or James or Astaroth or any other non planned LI fans, but it is annoying how the fandom can't just let an author just tell the story they want to tell with the LIs they conceptualized. We have normalized to go into an author's socials and harrass them until they cave and make the random side character ( most likely an antagonist and never a woman) a LI. And when the story gets bloated or the LIs don't get equal screentime, or the new li's route is not the fanfic people imagined it would be, then we start complaining about how an author shouldn't have caved to the pressure of annoying people bothering them everyday with messages to make their fave a LI.
I am not saying that that authors shouldn't listen to their audience, a story being well received is important for the app, and there is actual valid criticism and feedback that can be made towards every single book and author in RC. But not every white man side character needs to be made a li just because someone can't find other things to like in a book, not every story is going to cater to your specific preferences and it's fine to not read things that don't interest you.

a talking point i often see when defending the consumption of dark content is that itās a coping mechanism for those with trauma which is very valid and true but i also want to make this abundantly clear: you can like dark content for no reason. you can enjoy fucked up shit in fiction because itās enjoyable and entertaining. trauma is not required as a ticket for entry. enjoy your dark content bc itās fun and sexy and donāt let anyone take that away from you

The only times Merlin hugged Morgana were when he killed her with poison and sword. Let that sink in! They deserved a tragic romance with their insane chemistry and we got lousy show writers instead!

Let's leave something clear I BEG OF YOU. Sebastian is misunderstood, but not for the reasons you think.
Yes, he did choose to resort to the dark arts to save his sister out of desperation, but he is not the same as a dark wizard. He did not even dare to use any of the unforgivables UNLESS the life of someone he deeply cared for was at risk (Anne, Ominis and arguably MC). He never once did something that could cause any harm for the good of Anne, at least not intentionally.
Which leads me to the catacombs, the most questionable part of Sebastian's storyline.
No, I do not believe that Sebastian was controlling the inferi we were fighting in the way to him, I don't think the relic had such a big range of action as him attacking MC through the inferi goes against everything that Sebastian is as a character (mainly, a protector). Why in the world would he purposely send the inferi to attack Ominis, MC, and Anne? Because Anne was supposed to be there with us when we entered the catacombs, Ominis is like a brother to him, despite their differences, and MC was his closest friend at the moment, being the only one supporting his current decisions. Why in the world would he attack any of them? But let's forget Ominis and MC for a bit, who in their right mind believes that Sebastian would put Anne in a dangerous position on purpose, specially in her current state?
Yes, I do know that he was well aware of the Dark sacrifice required to use the relic (which leaves me wondering what the fuck was that, because even after it had been used we never find out-) but I don't think he genuinely thought he needed to kill someone or something of the sort to get it to work.
Sebastian is also not manipulative and the dicourse around him being that (mainly because of the pensive scene) drives me up the wall. He was absurdly forward with what he wanted and he simply clinged to the chance of saving his sister, he practically begs us to help him, but that's not manipulation. He is not a manipulative mastermind, he is a kid that noticed that his friend could have the power to help him save his sister's life. And no, I don't think he uses us, sure he made a little joke about keeping us close because we beat him in DADA, but that's all it was, a small teasing joke. He did not know we could help Anne until after the pensive, when our friendship was already well stabilised, and that is clear by the way he reacts after watching Isadora's memories with us.
All of this said, yes, you can have whatever interpretation you want, AUs have existed as long as any fandom has, but please don't go comparing canon Sebastian with literal destheaters.

āwhy do you ship them? I thought the ship wasnāt canon?ā bro weāre talking about fictional characters, who donāt actually exist in real life, from a media that focuses solely on fictional events that are not real either. so what if these two made-up characters didnāt kiss in their source material? they have lots of nasty gay sex on archive of our own and thousands of novel length slow burn enemies to lovers fics written about them. the fanon content at this point far exceeds the whole canonical franchise. the problem isnāt āitās not canonā the problem is that you donāt allow yourself to let go of canon and enjoy the wonder of fan contents that are just as good / valid

There was always a hint of the pedant about Ianto. Underneath that soft exterior, there was steel. Very few people got to know that. Those that did usually regretted it. -Jack about Ianto inĀ Plant Life by Trevor BaxendaleĀ
It says a lot about Iantoās dark side and his anger thatĀ John Hart is terrified of it because John is the type to laugh in the face of danger. He literally has all the power in the first gif, has a gun to Iantoās head, and he takes a step back as soon as Iantoās angry. Heās so shocked by it, probably because he saw that soft exterior and thoughtĀ āOf course Jack has this boy around. Heās cute and innocent looking and Jack probably has a lot of fun with that.ā He thought he could threaten Ianto and just push him around and Ianto would comply.
but then Ianto like does not give a fuck that thereās a gun in his face, because John has threatened his teammates, betrayed Jack, and took Jack away from them again. His anger boils over and John was not expecting to see it so it throws him off and it scares him.Ā
In the second gif, Ianto goes straight for the kill shot. Ianto has had enough of Johnās shit and John has used up all his chances. Ianto can be very forgiving and sympathetic. He can be extremely caring, but if you step over that line and piss Ianto off, if you threaten someone that Ianto cares about and is willing to protect, then youāve lost the privilege of him giving a shit about what happens to you. Of course, thereās some leeway. He is capable of forgiving. He forgives Jack and Gwen and Tosh and Owen, he forgives Torchwood because he understood why they did what they did and, in the end, they did try to help him too.Ā
but in that second gif, John had threatened Jack and the team not once, but twice and this time he threatened all of Cardiff. Ianto didnāt like John anyway, but he was going to give him the benefit of the doubt for Jack. Right here, John doesnāt deserve Iantoās forgiveness or him holding back his anger.Ā
like⦠in the second gif, even when John knowsĀ that Ianto is not afraid of him and wonāt hesitate to kick his ass, he steps back and looks like he doesnāt even know what to do with the fact that Ianto really wants to shoot him.
