Sometimes I wonder how things would've turned out if Wylan could read. Yes, he wouldn't have been nearly killed by his own father and his mother would never have been sent away, but if Jan actually loved his son, he would never have done what he did and would've accepted Wylan regardless. Therefore, even if Wylan could read, Van Eck wouldn't really love him as a son, right? Also he would never have met the crows, and I feel like if he didn't, he would never have truly understood what it means to be a family.
