An open letter to Taylor

Dear @taylorswift,

I’ve been listening to your music for about 5 years now and what started as an attempt to convince my parents to take me to your 1989 concert with my best friend turned into a love for your music. As someone who suffers from severe anxiety and depression every day is a struggle. That being said your music has made such an impact for me. being able to turn on one of your songs and forget about life for a while has made a world of difference. I remember the first time I purchased reputation I listened to it 20 times on repeat and never got tired of it. As a woman and a member of the LGBTQ community, your activism against homophobia and sexism is truly so influential to me. I am very lucky to have not encountered a lot of homophobia in my community, but with a half Catholic half Southern baptist extended family coming out has never been on my radar, but you being such a strong ally has made me really feel excepted for who I am. Also I never really noticed how much harder it is for women because I just thought that was just how it was. I never knew any different, but seeing you fight for what you believed in made me realize that it doesn’t have to be that way. Young girls in the future will know that it doesn’t have to be this way. Politicians, leaders, and people in power will have to come to terms with the fact that it can’t be this way. Us women are tired of living in the shadows of our male counterparts. We deserve to be treated the same as men even if that means fighting long and hard for it. So I want to thank you, Taylor, for helping me through a hard time and showing me, and so many others that we don’t have to take discrimination sitting down.

How did you become a Swiftie? My best friend got tickets to the 1989 tour and I wanted to go with her so I started listening to Taylor Swift and fell in love! I didn’t end up going to the concert but I’ve been listening to Taylor ever since!

What is your favorite Taylor album? Gosh, that’s a hard question! Eeeek I can’t pick it’s a tie between 1989, reputation, and Lover!

What is your favorite Taylor song? IDSB? Or False God.

What is your favorite Taylor-related memory? When I saw Taylor on the rep tour with my best friend, the lady sitting net to me was so insufferably drunk. The only time I was actually sitting down at the concert i’m just sitting there and she passes out on my shoulder! I just looked over at her friend and she picked her up and said “I am sooo sorry!” I still laugh about it today with my friend. (editor: oh my GOD LOL)

What is your favorite cursed fandom memory (if you have one)? I haven’t had a tumblr long enough to remember one lol. Oops. 

What are some of your non-Taylor related hobbies? I’m a percussionist. I LOVE lacrosse even though I’m not playing anymore, and I’m really into pottery.

What other music do you listen to? My music taste is all over the place lol. R&B, Lo fi hip hop, alternative rock, classic rock. Basically anything with lyrical depth and a good beat I’ll listen to.

Do you stan anyone else, and if so, who? Oooooh okay. Jon Bellion, Harry Styles, King Princess, twenty one pilots, Camila Cabello, Halsey.

One thing I love about the lyric video is that we thought the woman walking in heels was going to represent Taylor, but then what we see is an unknown brunette. This choice shows how she isn't the only one who would be "the man", but that all of us can relate to the same feeling

When did you become a Swiftie? In 2009, when I was 15!

How did you become a Swiftie? I first heard about Taylor when she was dating Joe Jonas (I was a Jonatic). I decided to listen to her music and more after they broke up, when she released the Fearless album. I use to say I like her since 2008, but I became a Swiftie in 2009.

What is your favorite Taylor album? 1989!

What is your favorite Taylor song? Enchanted (but New Romantics is a close second)

What is your favorite Taylor-related memory? The first time she liked my selfie! I never thought it could happen but thanks to the Swifties who shared it on a Selfie Night, she could see my face and know how much I love her!

What is your favorite cursed fandom memory (if you have one)? I wasn’t around when most of these happened, so I’m gonna say five holes in the fence.

What are some of your non-Taylor related hobbies? Singing, playing the guitar, reading, writing, and editing.

What other music do you listen to? I listen mostly to pop music, I like songs that make me feel happy.

Do you stan anyone else, and if so, who? I’m a huge directioner; I follow their solo careers but I’m not a stan.
